What're your views on buttonmashing in fighting games? (Tekken etc.)

I know some people hate buttonmashers. I only do it with characters that support it, when I feel like a rush playthrough. Some characters are IMPOSSIBLE when you mash, they just keep backflipping or something. Sometimes you get stuck in really annoying combos that aren't hitting, and it's difficult to guard. Games like Tekken Tag made it harder (whenever all four buttons were held down at the same time your character would pause and power up), but most just make it way too easy.

Your thoughts?

Its not so much button mashing as people using the same move over and over that really begins to test me, to the point where Im ready to throttle them, but as Ive said, I have next to no patience with fighting games ¬¬

I have button mashed on occassion myself, if I cant remember the moves....

but whats ALSO annoying, is button mashers who still manage to spectacularly bust out all these flukey moves and manage to wipE the floor with you, then its like I R WELL GUD C ME GLOAT

No you're fucking not, you just button mashed and got lucky NOB HEAD

/rages

I hate button mashers. It does my head in, especially in Tekken, mainly because I pick my characters and learn how to use them, so when you fight a button masher, it's really irritating.

The most annoying thing about button mashing characters in Tekken, like Christie and Lili, is that if you learn how to use them, they're much better than when you button mash with them ._.

Well, first thing, not all characters work with buttonmashing, and it really frustrates me, second, although the first is true, sometimes it's crucial to use it to advance to the next stage of the story etc. That's kinda why I use it in the first place: that and combos (special actions).

I haven't played Tekken, but I did in DOA2.

In Tekken no matter what you have to buttonmash! The last stage is so freakin hard cause the boss can always do these crazy ass combos. Dead or Alive on the otherhand is the worst buttonmashing game of all time. You know how fucked up that game gets when you get to the 6th 7th or last stage! Take DOA4 for example. Fight Alpha 152 and you will fucking die while playing doa4.

If I'm in a tight spot and can only win with cheap attacks, I hold no reservations in using them. xD However when up against a real person I'll ALWAYS pick a character that I know I have a sound, comprehensive knowledge of their skill sets - so as to keep it as fun as possible. Alas, you'll always get someone using some bloody fast character and use only quick jabs, so you caaaaaan't go in for your super duper wuper combo/special attack because they've already smacked you square in the gob. It's a travesty of justice when you LOSE to these people too.

KH2 was the only game I have where button bashing seemed to be condoned.

Especially when you're against a wall ¬.¬

Even when I know the character's moveset, if their health is low and so is mine I get to the point of "AAAAAAAAAAH -button smash-"

I hate button mashers. It does my head in, especially in Tekken, mainly because I pick my characters and learn how to use them, so when you fight a button masher, it's really irritating.

I use specific characters too. Although in Practice/Training mode when I'm learning their moves it's like "<- X X" and when I'm HITTING THAT it doesn't seem to register with the stupid thing -__-

In Tekken no matter what you have to buttonmash

Well-executed combos > Mashing IMHO ¬.¬

You know, I've been a button masher for most games just to feel out the games right when I get the game. As I progress though and start to learn the moves I quickly start to turn into a skilled player.

Games like MK and such don't support that playing style, but you put someone in a game such as soul caliber 4....... sheesh bring out the nub sauce. I hate people that just try and try for that one move to be pulled off by hitting all four buttons and back, but you can't blame them though. The moves are as easy as balls, because its always pressing 2 buttons and back.. or the other 2 buttons and back.... I mean thats basically it, its just timing really.

Now games like BlazBlue and Street Fighter and MK you have to use real good strategy. So button mashing is not available. Hince I love these types of games.

...No you don't, that's why it's so irritating when people do it. If you take the time to learn how to play the game, button mashing really isn't necessary. Especially if you have a favourite character / team, just learn your characters moves and combos, and you don't need to button mash.

Besides, not all the characters in Tekken are button mash friendly :wacky:

But Mark With Baek you can be the cheapest ass in the game. All you have to do is keep spamming kicks and thats why people do it to make life easier. Go against Jinpachi without button mashing and let me see if you win! Also Id love to see you try DOA4.

But Mark With Baek you can be the cheapest ass in the game.

Key word being cheap. Button mashing might be easy, but it's just cheap really, and you'll rarely defeat a skilled player with button mashing, unless you spam the same move over and over again -__-

Go against Jinpachi without button mashing and let me see if you win!

I've beat Jinpachi several times without button mashing. He might be a cheap ass, but it's no reason to be cheap against him too. Besides, it's more rewarding to defeat him without resorting to button mashing.

Yeah Mark I have done it before but it gets freakin impossible. Gay fireballs he shoots. So yeah I know buttonmashing is really cheap but if I need to do it Ill do it. Also Jinpachi is not that difficult. The only characters I can beat him with are Asuka and Ling without buttonmashing. Who do you use Mark?

i hate playing with a button basher if im serious about the game..thers just no point to it now is there, you not trying, then they think they've done something amazing if they pull of a decent trick
