*This is a general discussion topic for the BoF series, therefore it cannot fit into one console area alone*

Alright then, anyone a fan of this superb series? I have been a fan of the Breath of Fire titles for quite a long time, and rightly so! Why do I like the games? Well, that is simple. I am an avid fan of all RPG?s, and this series sticks out pretty high above the list. I happened across BoF III many, many years ago at a video store. I noticed this good looking game, and decided to check it out. Naturally, I fell in love right away. I never had the chance to play the fine titles on the SNES, before I checked out the third instalment? Nevertheless, to this day I own all five titles, and I couldn?t be happier? Well, a return to the series? true roots would be great for a BoF 6, but we shall have to wait and see? Anyhow, I love the great storylines present in the games, the graphics (yes I am an old-school gamer.) and the battle systems.

So how go you guys feel about the series? Granted, you have to have been an old-school gamer to appreciate their greatness, but that is not always the case, if you have checked out the earlier titles on the Snes. I prefer the first four games to the fifth, PS2 instalment, but such is true for most people... So then, come and discuss, complain, comment, and everything else, in regard to the Breath of Fire series.

Speculation on a possible sixth game, is welcome, let me tell you.) I have not given the concept too much thought, but I think the idea is pretty realistic, at least for the PS3... As for which Breath of Fire game I favour the most, I would have to say I enjoyed the second one more; though I don't hold any Ill feeling for any of the other BoF titles.

I rented BoF V and it was okay. I still prefer other RPGs made by Namco and Square.

I too own the whole series. I don't care too much about the first three games, but I was really impressed with the battlesystem in the fourth installment. Capcom cleverly removed some of the issues that had been bothering me in most other RPGs. Every character member was useful in battle, three people actively taking part in the fight, the others in the back supporting the fighters or healing themselves. You could switch members whenever you wanted within your turn. More games should use this idea. I also liked being able to combine moves to do extra damage. Again, I would like to see of more this.

Though Dragon Quarter is vastly different from the other games in the series, I like how Capcom decided to be creative. The battlesystem is far from perfect, but to me it was a lot of fun.

Gameplay is very important to me, but the series also does something noteworthy in the story department. It's rare to see someone really evil in the games. Most characters of opposing sides have good reasons to what they do. Not only that, the games allow you, the player, to agree with them.

I've played through most of IV after way too many rentals one summer. I think I spent too much time in the fairy village.

It is a lot of fun, and the battle system is great. I like how the player can use Fou-Lu during the game. He's a lot of fun to play in battle (love the eastern continent's battle theme, too), and it's not often you can use a God Emperor in battle!

...I mean, it's not often you get to use a major villain in battle! ^^;

I played the first one for the SNES. I thought about buying some other ones but I never did. I think I might go buy a couple of them if I get bored.

Me personally, I loved the Breath of Fire series. (Even though I was nowhere near beating the first two. ^^; )

III was my intro to it. Since it had dragons in it (and I'm a girl who lurves her dragons), I decided "Hey, why not"? I liked how you could combine the different genes to try and make a dragon. The fishing game was simplistic, but eh, it was still good.

IV was okay. It had more minigames in it, which made up for the fact that
I couldn't combine any more genes. :( The fishing game was a lot better and I liked hunting food for my faeries.

V...eh, it disappointed me a little. Sure, building up the colony was good and all, but ehh...just ehh.

And on a sidenote, w00t for me hitting post 666 XD

Love the series, although the last one was horrible! It was poorly structured, characters were meh, the whole playing in the dark didnt win me over either. I loved 3 and 4 ^^

i only have breath of fire 3 for PSP and i like it

EDIT: Please add more in posts please. SS

I've played them all but only beaten III and IV. I love the series though and will eventually finish the rest of them. I'm still hoping for a sixth installment.

Meh, if they do end up coming out with a BoF VI, I just hope they have a dragon system similar to III. I loved mixing and matching the genes. ^_^

They had better bring that fishing mini game back as well! Sure, building the faerie colony is good, but I want more restorative items than what I have to pay x zenny for!

I remember the BOF Series. The problem is, I've only played I and V. I'm waiting for II to be on the Wii VC, and I need to find out how to get III and IV. I used to own I and managed to beat it. I'm currently playing V and I just can't seem to beat the game at all. Nonetheless, It's a really great series.

I own Breath of Fire I & II for GBA and III & IV for PSOne (also have Breath of Fire III for PSP too). Only game I don't have is Breath of Fire V but I do plan on buying it one day. I think my favourite is III as it was my first Breath of Fire game I bought and got me into the series. Never actually finished any of them (nearly though....but then I don't finish many games as I tend to buy new games and play them instead (girlfriend complains I should stick to one game at a time :D ). I hope they do make a new game and keep the different variations of dragons as some of them were cool.

Breath of Fire is among my top 3 JRPG series along with the Golden Sun and the Paper Mario games. I and II are old school classics and III is considered one of the greats. IV I never played that much of and Dragon Quarter was a pain in the arse although I did love the new way they were taking it.

Can't see a revival on the cards anytime soon unless as a handheld release but with Street Fighter IV finally coming out who knows?

I played the first one when it came out. I loved it. The second one was interesting as well, especially creating your own town. After that I lost interest in the series.
