So yesterday I was enjoying my time on the forums while watching Major League Baseball when suddenly there's this loud 'boom' and the electricity goes out. We were out of power for about 4 hours until it was black outside at 8:00. Honestly, I haven't experienced such a thing for about 4 years.

Anyone else have this? It's incredibly annoying, you can't do anything, you can't go online, you can't watch TV, no anything. :monster:

It's happened to me a few times. It is pretty frustrating when it is either really hot or really cold. Because both my air conditioner and heater (even though it is gas) require electric. So I am freazing in the winter and steaming in the summer.

Are you kidding me.............?

I've experienced a lot worst black outs than you.

The worst one I experienced was two years ago. A power blizzard swept by and the winds knocked down power lines. For four days I was without electricity. It was 20 degrees out. It was impossible to stay in our house. (Negative -6.6 Celsius.) Luckily my dad has money to throw around so we stayed at a Hotel.

Another time I was without power for two days in 2003. It was the famous North East blackout.

I had the circuit breaker blow out a few months ago where I live. Being that I was just here on vacation at the time, I thought that maybe my boyfriend's parents would pay to have it fixed, seeing as that it's their house. But no, we had no electricity for almost an entire month. Eventually I gave in, and payed to fix it myself. =x

We had an ice storm a few years ago and had to go without power for about three days. It was freezing in the house and all of the roads were icy so it was hard to get anywhere. Also, all of the hotels filled up pretty quickly so we had to stay at home. I didn't really enjoy not being able to shower. Other than that I guess it wasn't so bad. Luckily we have lots of board games, card games and books. My mom loves candles so we had plenty of those too.

Back in 96', we lost power for a few days during hurricane fran. It was the end of the summer and hot then so it really sucked. I would much rather be cold than hot.

Other than that, we have heavy storms that tend to knock out the power every now and then, but it only lasts a few hours.

this happens to me in the summer all the time so the AC doesnt work and neither do fans, and i swear its always at night so i can't sleep. i just sit there and sweat my balls off until i pass out.

lol, try a week without electricity, a raging tempest of a typhoon above your heads, and waist-deep flooding down below. I was thankful that we had a two-story house, but conditions were just horrendous. This always happened every year by the way, and it was just a job to keep yourself entertained. All you had was board games and books, and that was it. It was real survival.

Well, we've had the electricity go off on us several times, but I wouldn't really call them blackout because the lack of electricity lasted for only a few minutes/hours, and sometimes it happens during the day, so it's really no problem for us as far as being able to see your way around the house.

Now, back in the Philippines when I was a kid, we've had A LOT of those. Like GunbladeGirl, we also used candles and listened to the adults talk about it. My cousins and I would also play pranks on them since it's pitch black - so yeah, we made sure we had our fun during such times.

Yep, it's happened to me before. It sucks and it really makes you appreciative of electricity, lol. I'd be able to find a way to entertain myself, like a good book or something, but problems start if the fridge stays out of commission for too long.

Haha, I go nuts without my electricity. Computer, television, and video games are the three main things I live and breathe. And when one goes out my line of thinking always turns to another to delve into in order to pass the time until one of the others comes back up. Damn, no internet? Fuck it, I'll get on the xbox. Damn, Xbox is acting up then screw it, I'll watch TV. Cable's out? Crap, I'll just get online. With a power outage, I find my logic in that regard to be quite circular indeed.

Luckily for me, I also pass a lot of my time reading. So that's always the failsafe, last bastion to fall back on when the power goes out and knocks out all of the above. Although also, with a laptop now I've got a good 2 hours if I'm dicking around on the internet, or 1 hour if I'm on World of Warcraft or in another game since all the graphical demand tends to demand about twice as much power. How do I maintain an internet connection you might ask? Just simply the modem and router alone won't drain near as much of the power out of my little backup battery surge protector I have everything related to the computer plugged into like it would with a full-blown computer and monitor sucking away at the bastard too.

Oh, good times, good times.

It actually happened again today, and it seemed that a huge portion of Southern California was affected as well. I'm not one to complain but enough's enough, these power outages already ruined my 3-day weekend and if it happens again sometimes in the next month or so, I'll be seriously ticked off.

Yeah and it always seems to happen at the worst times. In fact, two times that I can recall. Once while taking a shower, naturally with soap all over my face when it all of a sudden it went pitch black (no windows) and only half way through my shower. The other was last summer during a 100 degree heat wave when a transformer exploded down the block leaving us without air conditioning for the rest of the day, which truly sucked.

ohh it happends here a bit when it rains we have to turn everything off just so it wont shut it off >.< its hoooorrriiidd

We've had quite a few power outages where I live and it's not fun at all. We get storms and the lightning can often hit power poles and such which causes the blackouts. It happens more in the summer and the power can be off from 1-5 hours at times, it takes ages. It sucks in the summer though because you can't turn any fans on or anything, you have to stay hot and suffer lol. It's heading onto Summer here so that's something I can look forward to.

Yeah, it sucks the most during the summer when it's all hot and stuff. >.<
And especially if it takes out your source of cooling. I tried complaining once (well, my parents did :P) but I guess they don't listen to complaints 'cause nothing happened one time and we had to wait through the whole day to get the power back again.
