Popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu have release their score for Birth by Sleep, which netted a 37/40 in their Cross Review section. For those who don't know, Famitsu's "Cross Review" is a cumulative score given by four different staff reviewers. These are the details about what each review had to say about the impending Kingdom Hearts title:

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

In this latest game in the series, Terra, Ven and Aqua journey through the worlds of Disney movies. In this game you can strengthen your Commands by use of a board game.

Target audience

- All gamers
- Series fans
- Disney fans

Play length

- 15 hours per character
- 100 hours to complete everything

Scores:

10 - Each character had their own story and events, and I was able to play through this each time with a fresh feeling. The battles can be quite exciting if you can get into the game system and play through them strategically. All I can say about the graphics and music is that they are superb. The dice game and other mini games were excellent. I have no complaints.

9 - The growth system is excellent. It gets very fun to fiddle around with it and decide how you want to make your character. There are tons of different abilities and attacks, and since some of them can change in battle, so even if you can use them easily battles never became boring. I felt satisfied with the completeness of the story, and being able to see through the eyes of all three characters. Starting the Command Board, all the game elements were flawless.

9 - Firstly, I was quite impressed by the amount of story they had, viewed through the eyes of three characters. The creation of stages for each character was nicely done. There were a variety of easily manipulated attacks that made the battles quite exciting. I was quite happy that the Command Board was not just for playing, but also for strengthening your Commands. This is a great game for people who are interested in the world of this series.

9 - With three different character types to choose from, as well as many different Commands and Styles, there was an amazing variety with what you can do in battles. When the Commands you can use increases, you can choose your own way of fighting the battles which gives a nice feeling of freedom. The boss battles were quite lively and exciting, and you can have fun with the direction of them.

I expected it to get at least 39/40. Its the second game to get lower than I thought it would (First is XIII) They did give it great scores for the individual sections, though, so it still wins. I would get the game no matter what they gave it, though. But I have been hearing that Famitsu isn't that much reliable for scores anymore :hmmm:

37/40 is still an excellent score so Nomura shouldn't be disappointed at all by that. In fact, I didn't really think Birth by Sleep would get a perfect score or anything just below it anyway because people have complained about some platforming sections previously in TGS demos.

Regardless of the score, I would buy the game anyway. Reviews (especially from Famitsu) never really decisively judge anything for me. The game is still good though looking at this score and doesn't mean that SE are quite losing their edge (yet).

Famitsu have funny ratings the last two FF tiles seem to confirm it. Final Fantasy XII (40/40) - generally criticised. Final Fantasy XIII (39/40) - a love-hate game by all accounts.

I'd say that if the Birth By Sleep ratings is true to its score then 37/40 is brilliant considering it's a PSP title especially since it could take up to 100 hours. That'll more than do me anyday. :D

I'm not too surprised by Famitsu's ratings. I don't go by reviews when buying my games, and I would have bought Birth by Sleep even if they gave it a lower score.

Like Olivia said, 37/40 is still an excellent rating.

37/40 is great. About an A- if you want that kind of picture.

This is the game I've been saving my PSP for. It BETTER be damn good.

37/40 is an amazing score...how can anyone complain? I've got to buy and play KH DS yet, but I'm looking forward to this one more really.

The 4 reviewers gave the game at least 90%, so it's not a bad score at all.

This is getting exciting! I hope they start advertising it in english as well. Shouldn't they at least have the official website? Anyway, I couldn't see how this game would get a bad score at all. But still, it shoulda had a point or two more. Even though I never played... it's instinct.

Sweet, the score is promising. I try not let numbers sway my opinion, but the comments the testers made make me happy. 45 hours worth of story for a PSP game is pretty good - FFVII: Crisis Core was less than that, right?

I've been waiting for Birth by Sleep for over 3 years now. I'm still anxiously waiting for a English release, so I'm gonna try not to spoil myself like I did with 358/2 Days.

I don't want to know ANYTHING about Bbs! :gasp:
