Okies, so there's been a lot of discussion about whether the Japanese or English VAs was better. But out of all the controversial English VAs who did you think pulled it off the best? Who actually managed to portray their character half-decently?

As a reminder, here's the English cast list (main characters)-

Cloud- Steve Burton
Tifa- Rachel Leigh Cook
Aerith- Mena Suvari
Kadaj- Steve Saley
Yazoo- Dave Wittenburg
Loz- Fred Tatasciore
Sephiroth- George Newburn
Vincent- Steve Blum
Yuffie- Christy Carlson Romano
Cid- Chris Edgerly
Barret- Beau Billingslea
Cait Sith- Greg Ellis
Reeve- Jamieson Price
Red XIII- Liam O'Brien
Reno- Quinton Flynn
Rude- Crispin Freeman
Rufus Shinra- Wally Wingert
Zack- Rick Gomez

Feel free to namecheck any that I've missed off here eg- Denzil, Tseng etc.

i think all the voices were fine in AC, though i have not seen it in japanese but i wouldnt understand it anyway. i think the voices were pulled off great, i didnt have any expectations of what their voices should be like as VII didnt have any voices in but the voices were great and really did relate well to the characters. the only one which did surprise me was Cait Sith i dont think anyone could have expected that one i thought he would have sounded more robot like or more like reeve as he was controlled by reeve.

overall i dont think any of the voices in AC were bad they were all good :)

I didn't find any that particularly annoyed me either. But My favourite has to be Steve Blum for the job he did on Vincent, he really nailed it.

I really do agree with you Miss Valentine, I think steve blum did great at Vincents voice and it really was amazing it was a voice that was just what you would expect from his charatcer. vincents voice was probably a hard one to do but he really did do it well

Steven Blum is my choice if only becasue he is my favorite career voice actor of all time. He did awesome with Vincent, but he does great with everyone he plays...

Spike (Cowboy Bebop), Char Aznable (Gundam movie trilogy), Mugen (Samurai Champloo), Makoto Shishio (Rurouni Kenshin), Ken (Street Fighter Alpha), and countless other characters in countless other anime titles and video games... he's even leading the voice cast in the new X-Men TV series as Wolverine (a character he's played in the video game adaptations for a long while)... he's just absolutely perfect in most everything he does.

So yeah... Steve Blum was definately the best AC voice actor... but there were others that were okay... however some of them had offset emotional strains on their voices that didn't exactly fit the situations, and what not, and that detracted from the quality of the overall English dub performace... but... egh... what can you do? It happens often nowadays... but at least its not as bad as some of the horrid 80's voice work... ACK!

I thought Steve Burton did a great job with Cloud. He actually got into the character, unlike Mena and some of the other VAs. A close second though would be Steve Blum. He did a fantastic job as Vincent, and gave just the right amount of "heaviness" to his voice. I enjoyed these two VAs the most.

Hehehehe all hail Steve Blum!! :P

And yeah I was impressed with Steve Burton, I don't think people who dissed his version of Cloud were being fair. He pulled it off well, just the right amount of moodiness. I look forward to seeing what he's done with the young Cloud in CC (it does sound like him on the vid, is it him?)

I also really like Kadaj, I thought that was brilliant. He sounded completely wacko, and if SE are going to plague us with anymore stupid spinoffs, then Kadaj should get a game of his own :wacky:

I'm gonna go with the three Steves here.

Blum really pulled it off in a sense that...that is actually the exact kind of voice I would imagine for Vincent. It's somewhat dark, quiet, and low...so enigmatic.

Burton did alright as well. At first it wasn't the kind of voice I would've imagined for him, but I eventually got used to it.

Kadaj...now he was spectacular! He sounded like a happy maniac, which really suits his character.

Erm, I'm not too crazy about Tifa and Aerith's voice though. The rest were fine.

I hated the one that did Yazoo, or was it Loz? The idiot taht sounded like a child anyway. That voice went right thru me

Other tahn that, the other voices were all fine IMO, but I have to jump on the Vincent bandwagon here & say his voice was downright sexy

Oh Cait Sith.....fucking wrong

Steve Blum is winning this hands down!!! ^^

But I have to draw attention to Quentin Flynn for his upstanding job as Reno. He really made it memorable, he nailed it! And I'm a pretty big Reno fan anyway so that just upped his appeal :wacky:

I think I might have to watch it again, Iv only seen it twice so the only ones I can really remember are the ones I mentiond :wacky:

Il either be back complaining or saying how hawt they all sounded

His character wasn't heavy on lines, but Steve Blum did a good job as Vincent.

Really, none of the voices stood out to me as being horribly done...though Cait Sith's was pretty strange.

Ah, Reno. He did good as well. Actually his voice was quite entertaining, probably moreso than Kadaj. Whenever Reno speaks, I just have to listen and hear what he has to say because it's either funny or his voice is just amazing.

Yazoo was boring though. He speaks too slow for my liking.

One of the reasons I played DoC was because his VA was so good. Shame Hojo and Lucrecia got such crappy VAs >_<

I thought Hojo's VA did a good job sounding crazy :wacky:

Since we're on the subject of Reno, I agree with Mitsuki. Reno's VA was absolutely hilarious, and I enjoyed him in AC and Kingdom Hearts 2 as well.

Did Loz get on anybody elses nerves? His stupid little "come and play with me" line and his constant crying annoyed me..

Yup, I hated it too >_<

Although I'm not sure how else it could have been done, being such a freaky weird character and all. Same with Yazoo, I just have to question both their chars in general

Rude was the best, because he was played by Crispin Freeman, and he's a seasoned voice actor.

If Advent Children had some more experienced voice actors, it would have sounded a lot better.

Rufus and Kadaj's voice actors made me want to shove spoons through my ears.

Don't blame the VA for Loz's attitude and personality... and especially not for the script he was working off of... the script was written by the person(s) who translated the film, while the attitude and whiney personality was aprt of the character, and is even more prevelant in the original Japanese audio... given these simple facts, I can't see myself ever blaming the Loz's English VA for the bad/anoying character that Loz was in the film. I mean... VAs can only do so much, you know.
