Beginner Cosplay

So I'm new to the cosplay world and would really like to create my first character. I'm not super artistic so I know I will have to buy a good portion of any costume, but I'm totally game for working hard on this.

I want to embody a character in the best way possible, which means picking a character that looks similar to me/acts similar to me.

My favorites are Lightning, Rinoa, Rikku, Yuffie and Yuna but I'm up for anything.

Here's a couple pics of me. Please ask me any questions to get feel for my personality. I would love to have some input on this, seeing as evryone on the forum has the best insight into FF cosplay.

You could do a Rikku, since you've got blond hair. Just need to get the costume together. I'm most likely going to cosplay as Auron or Squall myself.

Yes, the blonde hair definitely helps. I have no problems with using a wig or temporarily dying my hair either.

You could try Selphie, or maybe Quistis. There's not enough Quistis cosplayers!

Personally, I'd say leave the cosplaying to the Asians. But whatever. Do what makes you happy. I'd have to agree with the Quistis comment though. But is this really something you're going to want your kids to see in the future? Instead, let's go get some sushi. What say you?

This is ludicrous, why should people not cosplay just because they're Caucasian etc. If they enjoy it, that's what matters. As for would your kids want to see it, I think there's far worse a parent can have done in their life =P

I never said they shouldn't, I just stated to leave it to the Asians. They seem best at it. But I don't know, you tell me, stud.

There's no reason why you cant cosplay well if you get the decent out fits....because tbh, alot of cosplayers DO just look laughable (just have a look in the cosplay section, theres an ace thread in there for bad cosplayers xD) but theres some really ace ones out there. Theres an unbelievably hot Auron....*drool*

THat's pretty good, I must say. if you got the cash to put into an outfit and the looks, it can turn out great. Just most people enjoy giving you nightmares about your Fav. characters.

Yeah, it DOES help to have the cash, because the CHEAP looking costumes, not even hot Auron dude could pull off, and I imagine it being an expensive do - whether you buy them or make them yourself...

I don't know why so many people think Asians are better cosplayers, most of the characters are European/American looking.

I love how the pics of bad cosplayers put up are all huge people. Do I look like that to you? I think not.

Its not the race that makes it, its the looks. It is entirely unfair for people to say "asians look the best as cosplayers, so all other fuck off!". If their features fit, then anyone can do it.

Granted many anime characters do have asian features, there are just some things that are easier to pull off as caucasian or another race. For one, the best saber cosplayer (saw her at a con in japan) was caucasian.

In fact, im a pretty good example. I am chinese, and went cosplaying a few times (simple things such as kenshin or Sagara Sousuke), and one or two of them epically failed so much that i ditched the idea and went as a normal guy after all the hard work. Its just the silly stereotypes

Wait....i actually cant see them as American. Sorry, but i just cant, not the FF or JRPG games. European, maybe with Balthier, but not american...except for Sazh Katzroy, but thats just my stereotyping him.

As for who to cosplay as, from the first photo, i say selphie, but thats because you remind me of her in KH 1 (or what little screen time she had)

thank you and I agree with all you said about the race stereotype, cosplay should be about expressing yourself as a character and having fun.
