I logged onto YouTube this morning and searched for "beating Emerald Weapon", "beating Ruby Weapon", and i was so disappointed on all the videos that i came across with.

Everyone uses the Counter-Mime strategy with variations of either Omnislash, Angermax, or KoR.

One word: WEAK

I remember the first time i beat Emerald Weapon, i had no Mime, no KoR, no Omnislash, no Angermax, no W-Summon, etc. The only thing i had equipped that is recommended by everyone is the Underwater materia.

Yeah sure, the battle took like an hour or something like that... i can't really remember. But i do remember using nothing but Barrier-All, Megalixirs, Level 3 limit breaks, and Gravity materia.

Has anyone else ever done it that way?

This is more suited to the FFVII forum since it's a discussion on the weapons.
So *moved*

Anyway, to add to the topic at hand I did beat Emerald and Ruby weapons using KotR and HP Absorb materia. The battle took about fifteen minutes. There are people who have beaten them without Omnislash, Counter, etc. It just takes longer. In my opinion beating the bosses themselves is enough reward, doesn't matter which strategy you used. Plus I bet that mastering the materia necessary for the Counter/Limit Break strategy takes a while.

i beat both weapons fairly easily, and i used a custom set-up that was very different from what is recommended, the only thing that is really needed is the underwater materia for Emerald and ribbon and a fire absorbing armor for ruby and they are very easy to beat.

i beat emerald with the underwater materia, used about 60 megalexers. used the 7777 glitch, made sure i had 4 slash, and just went to town. big guard is a must

I used only final attack phoenix and won in about 2 hours. Unlike what most people say both have an unlimited use after they get maxed out in level.

Ugh i could neer even be bothered levelling up enough to beat them, its on my to do list one day. When i do give it a go though il be sure to use the mime strategy and il definately have KOR, its just he thought of levelling to get my characters strong enough, itl take forever.

As long as you have the correct set-up, then beating the Weapons shouldn’t pose too much of a problem. Emerald is obviously harder though, since it can wipe out your entire party with a single blow and continuously saps your MP. Ruby is easier. I just kept on hammering mime the entire fight, while the combination of HP absorb and KOTR automatically kept restoring my health. In other words, I was pretty much invincible.

I've beaten them using KoR, W-Summon, Mime, Omnislash etc aswell as without. My first play through I didn't have any of them while fighting.

To be honest, I got alot more satisfaction from beating these two than I have from beating any other beastly boss in the series, with both strategies. Even though with X, you have the Dark Aeons, Penance, Omega etc. I still enjoyed beating Ruby and Emerald more.

If you want to see a decent fight, there's a video floating about of a Tifa solo fight against Emerald, at low level.

They are hard...

Please try to stay on topic, give your alternative strategies other than the mine/KOTR/absorbing trick

Id like to remind people to be aware of the original post, as we do already have discussions on beating the weapons. You are being asked if you used a different strategy. Not if they are difficult OR how to beat them

Cheers in advance people

I just beat Emerald Weapon, during Disc 2, right after "the submarine battle". I didn't think this was possible at all, so i am extremely amazed.

I decided to go with the 7777HP glitch this time. No cheats. In fact, i don't even know HOW to cheat on this game... i'm still confused as to how people are able to cheat. I'll even disclose every single detail of how i did it, and as soon as i get a chance, i'll post up a video. I saved right before the fight, so i can do it all over again.

I used Cloud, Barret, and Cid.

1. First thing's first, get Cloud's Omnislash. It's a major pain in the butt but you're going to need it without a doubt. Get Barret's Angermax, as well as Cid's Highwind.

2. Cloud is around level 66, Barret around 56, and Cid around 61. This to me, seemed like the BARE minimum if you're planning on taking this particular challenge without using KoR, Mime, W Summon, Phoenix, Final Attack, etc.

3. Get everyone's limit breaks ready. Use a "Hyper" on all three characters to put them in "Fury" status, and then travel somewhere around the world where enemies are at least somewhat strong. I picked Wutai area mountains. Once everyone's limit is ready, either escape the battle or simply cast a magic spell to beat the enemies.

4. I pulled up the menu, and decided to mess around with Cloud's materia a little bit. I took one of the magic materias off, and the max HP set itself to 7777HP. It sounds ridiculous, i know, and it totally sounds like i'm trying to cover up some sort of cheats. This is a combination of the level, materia equipped, accessory, and stats. I'm pretty sure the number of enemies killed has nothing to do with the stats, but someone correct me if i'm wrong. As far as stats, no cheats on that department either. Throughout the game, every single "Magic Source", "Power Source", "Mind Source", etc., they all went to Cloud. I never gave any of those to anyone else.

Anyways, while i thought it was odd that this happened, it is actually not even necessary now that i think about it.

So, since Cloud was already covered on the whole 7777HP ordeal, i had Barret and Cid to take care of only. I equipped Barret with "Transform" materia and picked up a fight around Junon area with very weak enemies. I used Cloud and Cid to attack Barret until his HP was LOWER than 7777HP. Once i got it there, i killed all of the enemies but one (so that we could all stay in the fight), and i used Barret to Transform Cloud, Cid, and the last enemy into "Mini". As "Mini", they can only do 1HP in damage, which gives me all sorts of control.

All i had to do was attack Barret until the last two digits of his HP ended in 77. For example:

7177
6077
6977
7377
5577
5077

As soon as this happened, i either killed the enemy or simply just escaped the fight. Now that Barret's last two HP digits are 77, you can feed him "Potions" until you get up to 7777HP.

I can't believe i never thought about this before. When Barret's ready, use PHS and replace him with anyone else. Repeat the process with Cid. When he's ready, use PHS and replace him with someone else. Repeat the process with Cloud. When he's ready, use PHS and get Barret and Cid back on.

5. Now you have everyone's limit ready, and everyone on "All lucky 7's" status. All you need to do is equip materia and you're ready to go. I will post a video showing everyone's weapon, armor, accessory, materia, limits, and status. And of course, a video of the fight.

6. I read somewhere that Emerald Weapon has around 500,000 hit points. Then i read somewhere else that he has around 1,000,000 hit points. 1 million sounds a lot more accurate.

When the fight begins, all three characters will immediately perform the "All lucky 7's" ordeal. Between the three, the total will be 64 hits at 7777 each. That is 497,728 hit points.

1,000,000 - 497,728 = 502,272 hit points left on Emerald

While your characters are doing the whole thing, use Barret's Angermax first, then Cid's Highwind second, and Cloud's Omnislash third. Don't worry, setting the limits won't break the 64-hit cycle. The limits will start as soon as the "All lucky 7's" deal is done.

By the way, ATB is set to "recommended", and Battle Speed is set all the way to "fast".

When the 64 hit cycle ends, all of the three limits will also be uninterrupted.

Barret's Angermax will hit 18 times at 7777 hit points as well. That is 139,986 hit points.

502,272 - 139,986 = 362,286 hit points left on Emerald

Cid's Highwind will hit 18 times at 7777 hit points as well. That is 139,986 hit points.

362,286 - 139,986 = 222,300 hit points left on Emerald

Cloud's Omnislash will hit 15 times at 7777 hit points as well. That is 116,655 hit points.

222,300 - 116,655 - 105,645 hit points left on Emerald.

While Cid is doing Highwind, use Barret to cast Quadra-Magic paired with Comet 2.

That's another thing i forgot about. You can get Quadra Magic without a Chocobo. You can land the Highwind on the edge of the cliff and get dropped off on the beach and simply walk your way to the cave.

Anyways, before Emerald even gets a chance to attack you for the first time, he'll be down to 1/10 of his HP. Before Barret casts Comet 2 x 4 on Emerald, the Weapon will do "emerald shoot" first, and the rest of the battle is pretty much a matter of who he hits with this first attack.

a. If he hits Cid, this is what the battle could look like:

b. If he hits Cloud, this is what the battle could look like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f2K4PluvO8

c. If he hits Barret, this is what the battle could look like:

I'm still trying to get him to hit Barret. I'll post the video once i get Emerald to do it.

Emerald

When I beat Emerald I used Omnislash and Knights of the Round over and over and over. Not to mention a boatload of Megaelixers roughly 1.5mil hp /sigh this method took me bout an hour maybe 45min to beat. Ruby wasn't even a threat by my standard.

Ruby is only a threat when you don't have "ribbons". Without a Ribbon, you're miserable during that battle.

Please tell us your strategies on beating the weapons, the OP wants to know if you beat them without using the KOTR/Mime trick

Ok, so i covered Emerald Weapon already... the strategy for Ruby Weapon is plain and simple:

First of all, i realized you're not even going to need a Ribbon because this strategy won't even allow Ruby to attack you once during the fight.

Equip cloud with the following Materia:

-W-item
-W-magic
-Quadra Magic paired with either a MASTER Comet or a Master Magic
-Hades or a Master Summon
-Mime or a Master Command

Keep in mind that i beat Emerald Weapon first, so i already had the Master Magic, Master Summon, and Master Command materias... though they are not necessary for this battle.

Before you step into the fight with Ruby, prepare Cloud's Omnislash and get his HP set to 7677. Refer to post #10 on how to do this. Once you have these 2 things done, kill your other two characters.

1. When you step into the fight with Ruby, he will start by digging his hands into the ground because you already have 2 characters dead. Quickly use Omnislash on his hands before he attacks you.

2. Because of the damage inflicted to the hands, he will remove them from the ground. While he's doing this, quickly use W-item and use "Dazers" on him and a "Potion" on you. Dazers will stop him, and a Potion will activate All Lucky 7's. You should be able to do this before he attacks you while he's pulling his hands out of the ground. It is important that you use Dazers before the All Lucky 7's ordeal, because if Ruby isn't stopped, he'll dodge at least about 1/2 of those 64 hits.

3. When the All Lucky 7's thing is done, quickly Summon Hades on Ruby. You won't be able to Summon Hades before he starts digging his hands into the ground again. This is ok. As soon as he's done, Hades will stop him once again.

4. While he's stopped, his claws can't attack you; so quickly use W-magic and cast two Comet 2 spells on Ruby, NOT his claws. Since you have W-magic and Quadra Magic equipped, that means you'll be actually casting 8 spells of Comet 2 on Ruby. I highly recommend pairing Quadra Magic with Comet, rather than with Master Magic because you could waste a lot of time scrolling through that huge list of magic spells to find Comet 2, and Ruby might come out of his "stop" status.

5. When you're done with all the 8 spells of Comet 2, Ruby will still be stopped. Quickly Mime yourself before Ruby comes out of his "stop" status, and he should be finished.

Every single attack (except for the Omnislash at the beginning) will do 7777 hit points in damage, and Ruby won't touch you even once.

I'll post a video when i get a chance.

Ruby was a pain for me. It never killed me but it took awhile to beat. I used Vincent,Tifa, and Cloud. Mostly using KoTR + Mime. Tifa had Final Attack + Phoenix. Right before Ruby died,it sucked Vincent up ;(

As for Emerald, piece of cake! I used the same strategy as above and same party. Took me about 6 minutes or so to beat him. I thought to myself I didn't need the underwater materia after all. ;p

I beat Emerald without the Mime KoTR/2x summon trick. Its more than possible it just takes a lot longer. At least having Mime or 2X summon without KoTR helps but its still possible without. Make sure your team can take a heavy hit and have Final attack - Revive on at least one character if at all possible.

RE: FF7, beating the weapons.

I just went to the shunken plane and used morph to get loads of sources, power, mind, ect then i beat them all with attacks lol.

I've done this too. Also having a materia system that ruled all.

Master Magic + All, Master command + Hp Absorb, Master Command + MP Absorb, Enemy skill, Hp Plus

Master Summon + Mp Absorb, Final Attack + Pheonix, (then what ever else)

With this I just straight up attacked my ass off and having 255 str, mag, vit, spirit, speed, luck for Cloud, Yuffie, Cid. I completly owned them.

How to beat Emerald & Ruby weapon in less than 10 hits.

So I recently killed both of them. And since I know the question as of "how?" do we kill them often pop ups a lot, I thought about sharing how I did it. You're welcome to post your own way or whatever, just don't diss my way before you try it.

Emerald Weapon: Hp 1,000,000 / Mp 9999

Use only ONE character. Choose which ever you'd like. I took Cloud..
Equip yourself with only these materials: HpAbsorb (linked to Knights of Round) Mime & W-Summon (allows you to summon twice in a row) and unless you have 9999 Hp equip yourself with HPPlus. do NOT use any other materials! Because Emerald Weapon has a skill called "Air Tam Storm" and it inflicts a damage depending on how much materia you're carrying. Ex: If you carry 9 materia, his attack will do 9999. If you have only 5 as I said he will only do 5555.

First, cast Knights of Round. If you have W-Summon he will cast it twice, I hardly suggest you have it at at least level 2. Then since you have it linked to HpAbsorb you will gain 9400+ hp after everytime you hit him with it. After casting it twice quickly select Mime. Without doing anything else! Mime does not take any Mp and you will continue to regen yourself after casting Knights of round. After doing so about 5 times his beam things on his arm will come to life, after the 7th time you will only absord 2000hp or so because you steal the hp from his beam things (don't remember what they're called XD) and he will cast Air tam storm at you. But since you only have 5 materia it will only do 5555dmg! And you'll be left with 84hp or so. After miming again you will regen yourself to 9999 again. After the 11th time of casting Knights of Round he will vanquish and you'll get the Earth harp which you can trade against 3 master materia in Kalm.

After you have the 3 master materia, equip them all on cloud (or which ever character you want to use) + the materia I suggested to use at emerald, and kill the rest of your party members and fly into Ruby. (Since you killed the rest of your party members he will put his arms into the ground at once, allowing you to attack him). First ting to do, open Magic and cast Shield on yourself. He normall starts out attacking you with either Ruby flame or Ultima. But since you casted Shield you will absorb instead of take the amount of damage he would give you. Cast Knights of round and continue to mime it just like on Emerald Weapon, Ruby has about 750,000 hp and he will die after the 9th time you cast the spell.
ATTN: Ruby weapon might have less Hp but can be a REAL pain in the ass if done wrong, I personally had extreme luck killing him. Only because his Ultima kept missing at me lol

Note: This is the easy way to kill them. I personally struggled like a freak for months before I tried this. There are probably other ways to kill them, but likely much harder.

I think I'l merge this with an existing thread because I can see it going the same way if other people start discussing their own tactics ^^;

Please tell us your strategies on beating the weapons, the OP wants to know if you beat them without using the KOTR/Mime trick

It is plausible.
But it's so hard there's hardly any point trying it, except wasting time.

The only way I know of to beat Emerald Weapon without Knights of Round:

Cloud: level 99 (9999hp without Hp plus)
Barret: level 96-99 (9999hp without Hp plus)
and Cid/Yuffie level 99. Same as the two above.

Equip only the following materia:
W-item (Preferably on Cloud)
Life2 on Barret or Cid/Yuffie. Which ever you'd choose. (Life2 is a must, since it can fully restore hp and mp to a character).
Enemy Skill (Preferably on Cloud) and Angel Whisper to regen health and Mp to one character.
And Phoenix Down + Final Attack on either.
Don't take any other materias since Emerald's Air Tam Storm will most likely kill you if you overdo it.

HOARD the world map for strength potions and use them on all the characters till your limit breaks hits constantly 9999.

Get at least 20-25 megaelixirs and Hero potions.
Enter the battle with limit break ready, (this is why I'd go for Cid or Yuffie since Vincent, Tifa and Red's limit breaks are less effective. Tifa's is stronger, but it is ALL about chances in the slot machine, and you really can't afford a miss.). Use Omnislash with Cloud, if you hoarded the map for enough str pots he should do 9999 a hit and around 120-130,000dmg all in all. Then Barret Catastrophe, he should do 7000-9999 about 20 times if you did it right he would do about 170-200k damage on emerald. And then use Yuffie's All Creation or Cid's Highwind. Which ever floats your boat.

And while you wait for your limit to become max again, cast megaelixirs, hero drinks and mega barrier on your characters to keep them alive while waiting. Also you should really equip yourself with Ribbons and the final weapons if you got them.

This is for me, an untested strategy, because I would never have the patience hoarding the potions needed. But my friend did this once, and it takes hours just to get the megaelixirs..

Or just enter the battle with 7777Hp, but that's even easier and less of a fight than the Mime trick.
