Nah, Balthier is nothing like Auron at all. Balthier is more charisimatic and outgoing than Auron is while Auron himself is more like the silent, broody type.
i thought auron was arrogant is a way, like when you first see him in the colloseum the way he just gets his sword out and beckons to monster to come, it just seems sorta arrogant in a way. Thats my thought really
i think that balthier is kinda like auron in some respects but nothing like him in others, auron loved close combat fighting whereas balthier prefers ranged, they are similar in wisdom and they play similar roles where they both offer wisdom to the main character, so bal is kinda like auron
I have no idea where someone would get this idea from. For one Auron is insightful and shares knowledge, Balthier doesnt. Balthier is a sky pirate, Auron isnt... Or at least of what we know I dont find that Balthier acts like Auron at all. There personalities are completely different.
People think Basch is like Auron. We get it. Stop repeating it >.>
Anyway, I can see the resemblences between Balthier and Auron. The one huge difference is that while Auron insisted that it was Tidus's story, Balthier considers himself the 'leading man', so to speak. Appearence and weapons aside, Balthier is knowledgable about Ivalice, and about things such as the Magicite, Nethicite, the gambit system, etc. Auron also informs Tidus (or us, the players) about important points in Spira, much like Balthier does. Balthier just has little tolerance for Vaan, while Auron has to be patient with Tidus.
That said, none of the FFXII characters have that much resemblence to any other FF game, and it's kinda pointless trying to find links between them. It's not like Squenix decided, "Hey, I know! People liked the dark, brooding, angsty undead guy! Let's make another, but for the twist, he wont be undead!"
I always thought initially that Tidus and Vaan could be cousins but that's about it. Auron and Balthier aren't alike IMO. Different characters, different styles, different ways of handling a situation. Auron speaks from experience and knows what to do whereas Balthier seems to just jump right in.
I wouldn't say they are the same exact roles, but they do have quite a few things in common.
First off you see that they both made life-changing decisions when the most pivital times of their life rolled around. When AUron seemed to be at the peak of his career, even though young, he refused a marriage which condemned him dishonorable/fallen. Balthier also made
the choice to leave the judges
which sent him on his own way, but in the end they both ended up happy and ful-filled a greater purpose in their lives. They were not present in their world to merely gloat their attributes and strengths, but they used their strengths to follow through in promises they made to friends along the way.
i dont think the balither is like auron he is more like wakka than anything he is daring and he isnt a teacher like auron he isnt really like that he is more like wakka a caring role of the group but even though he plays a big role he is still not a "leading man"
