Which type of characters do you like?

Un-emotionless Characters -:hmph:These are generally the ones who don't talk much and don't give a fuck about anything........even though they tend to go out and save the world :wacky:. (e.g.Cloud,Shadow,Squall etc)

Flirty Characters -:kinky: Oh baby! the characters who do anything for a date......a good example would be Zidane, who throughout most of FFIX can't keep away from Garnet.(e.g.Zidane,Eiko(with zidane a bit),Rinoa)

Cheery/Outgoing - Cheery characters do seem to annoy me,but a lot of people seem love them. The characters who love to talk, interact, laugh and have fun(e.g. Tidus,Vanille,Rikku,Zell)

Wannabe-Heroes - The characters who just want to save everthing......I dislike them as well, as they to seem to act big and boast but again people seem to love them.(e.g. Snow,Locke,Irvine etc)

Kind-hearted Chracters - Well don't we all love the people that love us? The characters who are concerened about the well-being of their allies as well as the world. (e.g. Yuna,Wakka,Sazh etc)

Cool guys - The ones who are calm in everything they say to everything they do....Not loud-mouthed and keep a mature perspective on matters. (e.g. Auron,Vincent,Cyan etc) oh and also Lulu in my opinon.......I'd say she is cool, but not a "cool guy" :wacky:.

I know there are more characters with a slight different attitude in the FF series........but these are the main ones :mokken:

The ones like Cloud, Cecil, etc. The ones that don't really say much but save the world. Although there are ones who aren't really this way that I like as well.

Also, I wonder, what category would Kain fall into?

hmm I kinda like both the un-emotional and the flirty.
I find the un-emotonal characters have a darker back story and are actually quiet interesting but the flirty are more fun and tend to make you smile and are very likeable.
In the end i went with Flirty, mostly because Zidane is my favourite character, he has a dark back story and manages to be fun, lighthearted and just a massive flirt <3

btw good topic :D

Cheery! Because they always make serious situations a little lighter. They are always hoping for a smile, a laugh. I think it's the character everyone either wants to be friends with- or punch in the face :)

You are missing a category:

The calmer, wiser/sage-type, character: Auron, Vincent, Cyan

I was thinking of that.......but I don't think there as much common as th catogries above.

I would like to see more characters like that, however they are kind of a mix between un-emotionless (which are quiet) and kind-hearted (caring).

Unemotionless is not a word. The word you're looking for is emotionless.

Anyway, the character I prefer is the emotionless kind. Not BECAUSE they're emotionless, but because they'll likely get some incredible character development. Squall and Lightning are two characters who I found to really develop over the course of their respective games. They forced themselves to grow up because of tragedies in their lives, and became stone cold, before the events of their games left them warmer, with a purpose and defining traits that weren't simply their lack of emotions. It's remarkably rare to find a truly emotionless character. They tend to be cold, and they tend to develop into something more before the end of the game.

I think un-emotionless was done as a double negative on purpose because the characters start out emotionless & then end up being more emotive.

It kind of depends on how certain character portrayals and developments are executed, but I do mainly like the more outspoken and enthusiastic protagonists. By that, I don't mean on the levels of Yuffie, Selphie, Rikku and Vanille of course; I rarely like those kind of characters. I'm thinking more on the lines of Zidane and (despite the debates on whether or not he has a personality, but that's down to execution) Bartz. I think this is mainly because I'm too used to the stoic, cold, quiet, reserved characters who remain so for a good portion of a game. Protagonists like Zidane are breaths of fresh air particularly when you're witnessing the story through his own views.

That's followed up by the "cool" characters I suppose, if you can throw Balthier in there. Now that guy has a sharp tongue no matter what the situation, largely attributed by witty dialogue. He alone probably made FFXII on the characters front. I'm also juggling the "kind hearted" ones in my mind as well as I'm also contemplating Terra. I'm not sure where she would neatly fit into though. My taste in attitudes do vary considerably now and again, so I can't easily answer this thread, but I certainly know which types I don't prefer, namely the too outgoing and cheery ones (e.g. Vanille) and the wannabe heroes (Snow the most extreme example).

Fleur- thats what I was thinking with the "cool" characters, they are unfazed by situations and offer advice to others.

Darkshadow- thank you for relabeling the category to "cool" because that is the exact perfect word for it.

Zidane goes into cheery/outgoing and kind-hearted. He was always enthusiastic and nice to people who were troubled.

Good point, you could say that for most......
But he was outgoing when flirting. And like most again he did care because as you know all of these characters do end up saving the whole world. :wacky:

However when playing FFIX you would get the feeling Zidane is for most parts flirting with Garnet........I'm sure if there was no "save-the-world" plot in the game it would all be about him tryna get it on with Garnet (Even though Eiko wants a bit of him too lol).

I know that there isn't much of them, but I kind of like the shy or the tough girls. I kind of see the tough girls as girls like Maria, Fairs, Rydia, Celes, and Fang from FF13, but I also like the shy girls like Terra, Tifa, Quistis, and Princess Garnet. I'm kind of shy and unconfident online and offline, so girls like Quistis and Garnet really speak to me, they kind of say "it's alright to be this way, because we are like this way too ". About the tough girls, being so shy I look up to people, and I desire a role model, somebody to lead me. And girls like Rydia and Fang really speak that leadership.

I see Maria as a tough girl because even though in FF2 she lost her village and everything to the empire, she still stands strong and she's able to fight with Firion and others. It may be because she didn't have much of a personality, but it seems that way. Like she's really independent.

Fairs is a pirate girl and a leader of a crew of quite the manly-guys, she would have to be really tough to lead a group of men. Not mention unlike her sister Lenna, she wasn't the damsel in distress type and she was strong and independent and she didn't care what others thought of her. I really love and respect Fairs.

Rydia goes through so much, and yet she still manages to face her fears, be more mentally strong than a certain 25- year old spoony bard, and overcome her fears and sorrows to become a strong woman.

Also Celes, she's a general of the empire, fighting monsters and defeating rebels each day, and she shows that she doesn't need a guy on her shoulders to depend on life, that's why she rejects Edgar so much. Even when she thought that everything was lost, completely she managed to stand tall and overcome the bad that was happening to her.

Not to mention, about the shy girls, usually they become stronger. Garnet wants to become independent and she gains it, Quitsis realizes that she doesn't need a guy to be a good teacher, and Terra just becomes probably one of the strongest girl in FF history.

However I don't always like the shy or the tough girls. I'm not a huge fan of Yuna or Lighting. Maybe because I dislike Lighting's cold attitude and maybe she belongs more in the emotionless group, and Yuna I wish that she would focus on her friends more rather than what the world thinks.
:mokken:

I go with whatever you consider Zidane. Zidane is the best because he is similar to Cloud but more realistic because of the way he flirts with girls and he always has funny interactions with other people because he talks with this type of carefree attitude. However he is a hero like Cloud and will help his friends whenever. Even though the dude is a thief he is always has his friends back and will go out of his way to help them. When I first started the game I didn't think I would like him but he ends up being one of the nicest heros.

Auron, Vincent, and Setzer this is my harem :mokken:

They definitely had the most appealing attitudes, I mean I like Cloud and all but Vincent and Setzer are just...

But anyway, I don't think of Squall as feeling-less, he has too many feelings, but that's just me I guess xD Cloud and Shadow sure, feeling-less is right for these two but not Squall.

Any way Vincent, Auron and Setzer got my vote for sure.

Cool Guys like Vincent, Auron etc. because they are just epic and mostly you survive the battles because of them (Auron).

Cheery/ Funny they are also awesome. They add more Comedy to game which makes the game not too dramatic.

I gotta disagree.......The strongest of the bunch would definately have to be the emotionless guys. The cool guys are strong (Auron the most) but, I think genrally speaking they are not there to be in the main party........but more like secondary characters in the battle field(except Auron, but but people like Vincent,Balthier,Setzer etc were never in my strongest party).

Babydoll- the term is "Lek," not harem when referring to males.

Darkshadow- you are correct typically the cool guys are more for support/advice in the story line and thus that is the role a lot of them play during battle.

Hey, you did a good list but for me it... Doesn't cover every type. I never plated past FFVII so there, I don't really know what type of character is Rinoa, Vivi, Yuna, Tidus etc.

However if I could, I would made your list longer by:

Emotionless: Shadow, Squall
Flirty
Cheerfull: Rikku, Tidus, FF4's Cid, Yuffie [ yeah, she actually fit's to that cattegory ], Palom & Porom
Wannabe Heroes: Snow, Locke, Bartz [?], Galuf, Cecil after becoming a paladin
Kind - hearted: Yuna, Tifa, Lenna from FF5, Wakka
Cool: Edge, Cyan, Vincent, Auron

Now if I were to add some, it would be:

Very caring but intelligent and sometimes witty:
Aeris/th, Rydia,

Searching [ that are the heroes that at the beggining don't care but as time passes, they learn more and more about themselves ]:

Cloud [ really fits in the middle of "searching" and "emotionless" but I can't honestly say his like Shadow f.e.], Cecil, Terra, Celes

Egoistic [ in a sens they have a clear target, and they will do everything to achieve it, sometimes it doesn't seem good to others ^^ but tend to show themselves as true romantics or warm - hearted people]: Faris [ she fits a bit], Setzer, FF7's Cid, Barret

Dark characters: Kain, everyone remember Leon from FF2? :) Maybe Sephiroth [ off course he's a villain but he wasn't evil from the beggining.

Bland [ the ones I think were only introduced to the game to show their battle system f.e., no real backstory and not even real human reactions ]:
Gogo, the entire FF2 crew i'm afraid :) maybe minus Gordon... [ I first thought Cait - Sith is like that until he said he worked for Shinra ], I sometimes really feel like Cecil's character development ended when he became a paladin. Then he's just the same through the entire game... Blah, blah, blah... Altough maybe it is meant to be that way, I like his part in GBA's bonus dungeon really.

The intelligent type [ like really royal friends or warm grandfathers :P : Kluya from FF4, FF6's and maybe FF5's Cid, Red XIII, maybe Mog?

"Young" characters [ and I called them this because they're often young but I mean they're the type that calls "WTF i'm doing with your bunch on this ship?" or just fight because they want to help someone [ their family ]:

Krile, Yuffie, most of FF2 crew ;), Umaro, Mid, maybe Vincent

So if I were to choose from that list, I'd say the caring, intelligent Rydia/Aerith/s gets my sympathy, hovewer the emotionless and searching ones are very complex and interesting to discover. Really all of them are crucial and bulid the story, show many aspects of it, and a unique qay to look at the world, so all of them are crucial [ maybe expect the bland ones, I don't like them ;) ].
