A private life is a life you share with no one else. In other words, you're a recluse. Gauss had a private life too. Never went to any parties or other places except that one convention in Berlin.

Actually, come to think of it, "private" could mean anything done that no one else would know about.

I don't remember much about Napoleon, only he could have been jealous because his entire team of scientists in Egypt couldn't achieve what Humboldt could, and he killed, or was responsible for killing Duke Ferdinand, the guy who supported Gauss financially.
He also had 2 wives.
So did Gauss. Except he married the second one out of convenience for raising the children, and not out of love. He still had three children with his last wife though. However that works.
