My friend who has the game says there are towns and NPC's, but my research on the game proves otherwise. So, are there towns or aren't there? Or are there towns, just not the towns we were used to from past FF games?

There are seperate areas of cocoons that I guess you could call towns, but nothing like the old games. You don't have towns with a weapon shop, item shop and you can't just randomly walk into people homes and root through their bedrooms. I believe pulse contains no towns whatsoever. Because nobody really lives down there. But I think they should have added little villages to visit of people who were purged. Oh well.

So far I havent encountered a town yet. Im gutted you can go ransacking someones house anymore, I loved doing that. I guess there are some elements that are greatly missed from the older titles.

I haven't noticed any towns that remind me of the old games. Although, apparently, Lightning and Hope are heading back to Palomporum, which is a town, so I guess there are towns present.

In a certain part of the game, Snow is walking around looking for Serah. He's in Bodhum, and I guess that you could consider that a town. It's mainly on a beach, but you can head over to the little bar area and talk to the members of NORA.

There is also this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZEumwQvDc4

Which shows Snow running past some NPC's and they speak amongst themselves. I guess the towns aren't fully gone... yet.

I posted in here before Jihl Nabaat and my post isn't here, so weird..
but anyways..
I miss that part so far. I loved raiding/storming into peoples houses/buildings and just seeing what was there and what was going on in there. Even though most of the time it was a waste of time, you do it anyways and did it regardless if anything was interesting there or not.

yeah you can't talk to people anymore, but you can walk up to them and listen in on their conversations.

Technically there are still towns - some you can sort of visit as I have heard - and some mentioned like Cocoon's capital Eden. I don't really know for certain right now, but I can imagine FFX with the conventional "town" elements taken away (like the inn, shops and houses).

In the trailers, I have seen some aspects that resemble a town with your characters able to run around. I think the town I'm thinking of is Bodhum - what Ariana said.

I read an interview with the Producer and Developer and they said the reason that there aren't "visitable" towns in FFXIII is because the group of main characters needs to be off the radar. They need to stick around big cities and blend in rather than stick out in a small town since they
become l'Cie
, fairly early in the game. This prevents them from being recognized by the Guardians or the other group trying to mass exterminate anyone branded.

Just read it today in last months Gameinformer.

Hmmm interesting way for them to counter that question for all the people who want there to be towns, talk to people, etc. I'm sure they just chose not to do that for whatever reason they have.

You pass through towns but you cant reenter them later and they are not towns like in other games actually you cant even talk to people you can hear them while you pass them by and no stores you buy from the save points that sucks.
