Active or Wait?

I switched between the 2 to start off. In the beginning of the game I always had it on Active when I faced regular battles, but with boss battles I turned "Wait" on while I shuffled through the commands of my characters.

However, when I got familiar with the game, and where everything was at in my commands menu, I turned on Active all the time. Also, when I mastered the art of using Gambits for my characters, Active battle became the ultimate way to go. Battles went fast and easy and made gameplay quite convenient.

just looking back on my original post, sorry if it was slightly misleading, I didn't actually mean to say that increasing the ATB speed helps you to level up quicker by giving more exp, what I meant to say was that as characters level up the ATB meter fills quicker (as the characters SPD increases), so I would turn the ATB refill time down so that it would fill at the same speed it did at the start, i was always a bit slow with the commands :P

Oh, didn't quite mean that increasing ATB speed = more exp. More like it's easier to level because battles go by faster, something like that.

I recall only changing the ATB once, and it was for strategic reasons. It was when you face the first Demon Wall in FF12. I was at low levels and couldn't be arsed to level up, so I increased the battle speed so my party could attack faster. I can't remember if this affected Demon Wall's closing in rate - but it definitly helped me win that one.

In FFVII, I use active. In FFVIII, I didn't care for either, just used the default. I used active in FFX, and Wait in FFXII.

I used active in FFX

How could you use active in FFX when it was CTB, so therefore totally different :wacky:

That's what I liked about FFX. The battles were a lot more challenging, but we had thinking time, and you could leave in the middle of a battle without pausing and come back safely xD

I usually use ATB when fighting. The only time I recall using Wait was when I was doing a battle in FFIV DS. I forget which battle I used it for but I only used it because I had a hard time deciding what command to use next for that battle so that I was able to overcome it, which I did because of that.

I did enjoy the battle system in FFX because it gave me time think on what move to use and the fact it showed who was next and etc.

Wait.

I can't take the pressure of active, and am far too absent minded for it anyways.

I use Wait. I used to switch between the two and I started leaning towards active for a bit, but wait is much less stressful and I'm lazy as hell lol

Wait. I'm slow and clumsy and I don't want my battle performance to be based on how fast I can find something in the menus.

I'm an avid FF player but I've always had it on wait, it gives me more time to think and I think it's so annoying going through a really long dungeon only to be killed by a monster because you couldn't react quick enough.
Besides somebody ALWAYS distracts me while I'm playing so it's easy to pause.:wacky:

I've always kept my battle system on wait, because casting a spell or using a technick or an item while trying to get out of the way of the tougher enemies and bosses is more suited to the players who are diehard fans who want to get a little more difficulty out of the game.

Uh... wow, it never occured to me that increasing the battle speed would make levelling easier. I think I just had a revelation about something totally obvious to everyone else -__-
Ha, I didn't think about it either :monster: If it wasn't for this thread, I probably would have never known.

My battle speed bar was somewhere in between slow and fast, so I guess I was...a mixture of both? Active seems like it would be better to me though because you can go on and attack without having to wait for the enemy to do so first. Next time I play, I'm definately moving it up...

Well, it would have to be ACTIVE!

I like to try and think ahead and it is better for you to formulate tactics faster and under pressure!
