A claymation movie-movie:FFIX

Basically, I'm making a FFIX movie.

But let's get the stuff that I know will come up out of the way, I know what these kind of things sound like. They're like these people who have an idea, get hyped, and then never do anything about it after. I've seen and been a part of a lot of projects like that, and yes, it is hard to really get behind it. And I can't lie to you, I'm no proffessional. I can animate and aim to get better, but right now I'm a bit weak.

But I'm by no means going to let that stop me from something I've been working on for two years.

I best FFIX a long time ago and loved it even at a younger age. Getting older I began to play it more and eventually felt like I wanted just one last hurrah. So to that end I began to think of some ideas, thinking about what I really liked and what I didn't like. I went, changed a few things, and eventually came up with a brand new concept, turning the original storyline into a musical adventure (Using the tunes from the game.)

A while later I was thinking about Voice Acting. I got in contact with Actorman, the director and voice of Zidane for the FFIX dub on youtube and he seemed pretty interested. I showed him the script and we had a little discussion about it, and by that time it was in its second draft. He agreed with me that some of the dialogue seemed out of character so I'm currently working on the third draft (If you ever see it, feel free to drop him some praise, it's a fine fandub and he's a very friendly bloke.)

Anyway, I've currently got base models for all of the leads and am still refining them each day. I'm slowly going to upload some development and finished shots up to DA on this page- http://the-ffix-project.deviantart.com/

So that's the bush beaten around seventeen times. Why am I posting this? Am I looking to get other people to do the work or something?

On the one hand, yes, it would be nice to have some volunteers. I'd appreciate concept artists and helpers with the script and such, anything would be nice. But on the other hand I'm more interested in seeing what people think of the idea. I could definitely keep going without the support (it's going to take me a few years to animate anyway, so it's no biggie, I'm prepared for that. In the meantime I still release other animated projects to keep myself actively working.) Advice given to me was to go to the right places to advertise or suggest things like this, and I think this is the best place. And critisisms are just as welcome as support.

Well...phew, I guess that's it. Hope this made sense an' all, feel free to ask any questions you like. And yes, I will intergrate myself on the forums, I'm certainly not just on here to post and run. Especially on the only forum I know to have a cookie monster for a smilie. That's odd and awsome.

I won't be able to contribute anything to this, but I think this could be pretty awesome and I look forward to seeing how this works out, or even just to keep an eye out for your clay models which are fantastic so far (especially the Zorn one, I think that one is great :D).

One quick question, are those three the only models you've made so far? Or are they the only ones you've uploaded at the moment?

I'll be really interested in seeing FFIX retold not only via clay animation, but also to see a musical version. If you keep at this project, and I hope you do, this could turn into something grand. If you don't, well pat yourself on the back anyway for the models.

Re-telling FFIX with clay models and voiceovers sounds like a really interesting idea and I'm really intrigued here. However I'm not entirely sure how to help in this- I suppose I can help come up with some dialogue or something. Characters such as Brahne and Steiner might be interesting to adapt dialogue for.

So I guess this explains your username then! I love the models you posted up so far. Argor is right. The Zorn one is awesome because it looks so accurate and well made. I can't wait to see the other models- especially Kuja. Quina would be an interesting one if you plan to give him a voice.

I'm a big fan of FFIX as well so I really am interested in this project. I wish you the best of luck with it. I'm not sure how some events in the game would be done, but I'm sure you already do. And yes, the cookie monster is awesome :monster:

(especially the Zorn one, I think that one is great ).
Thanks! Zorns probably my favourite character in design and potential which was pretty much unused. His was the first model I made where I tried to get the details right, and I'm hoping to carry that on with the rest of the cast.

One quick question, are those three the only models you've made so far? Or are they the only ones you've uploaded at the moment?

I've made pretty much the basis' for all the principle cast members. There's a heck of a lot of guards, creatures and others I have to get through but the major focus right now is getting the main cast right. I'll be uploading some more soon, hopefully in some more dynamic shots, XD.

Thanks for the support from the both of you! Main things I'd be looking for support wise would probably be things like helping to lyricise some songs, scripting and promo art/conceptual design to help me better the models, although i can also try without. ;) And I'd be happy for any Steiner/Brahne ideas and dialogue you'd like to look at/try out swift!
Probably the one song i've had the most fun trying to lyricise is You're not alone. It's such a powerful scene and it really lends itself to a sort of big musical moment.

Well, you're probably not considering this as a prime point of interest, but if your script isn't at least somewhat engrossing to people who don't know anything about the story, it probably isn't going to be enjoyable to make either. I can help you with that- I know next to nothing about the storyline of the game and have a hell of a lot of experience with writing dialog, so if you want me to scan over your work just let me know.

Funnily enough that's probably why I was having problems, XD. Actormans also a massive FFIX fan and he worried that stuff was out of character, mostly because I had been trying to go for that general movie feel. I'd be very happy to contact you later and show you the script for an extra opinion.

Wish I could help, but since I'm no artist, I can only help with script from the safety of my home. I sure love FFIX, and I'm behind this project 100%. Lemme know if there's anything I can help related to the script.

I'd definitely be glad for you to help! I' wondering now If I should tidy up the script and put it on a public link for people to download, and then take the advice given...I might try that tonight.

Feel free. But just as there is good commentary, you could also get some criticism from fans should you post a link. I'm not saying I'll criticise, just saying there's the chance osme people will.

Yeah, that's probably what initially made me a little hesitant...but i'm actually happy to sift through all arguments against it too. I think it'd be best to take in a global opinion, otherwise i'd be STFU MAH VISION THNX, and I don't want it to stop being an endeavour made for everyone else.

Hopefully I can get that script up in a little bit...(sets up campfire)

Good luck, then. Since I'm just using a borrowed computer, I won't be able to download anything, period. But I have a good feeling about this.

If I had to download it, I won't be able to read it since I'm not allowed to download anything. But you do what you have to do. Don't stop or anything because of a new follower. :)

Well, I decided in the end that if i'm going to go for both sides of the argument then i'd better upload the barest of the scripts.

PRE-WARNING- Some of the lyrics are horrible and there a few scenes I despise, particularly the opening and the Quina scene. I'm reworking a lot of this script as we speak, but I still want to see if they're as bad as I think they are. If you dislike them then I reccomend you try the scenes from dali onwards...just let me know what you think, and if you'd like to help edit. =)

Are you sure I cannae paste it into an email for you Leon_L? It'd be cool if you did have a way to see it...

EDIT: Oops link http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php

You mean just the script? Sure. I used a different e-mail to sign up, so I'll PM you my other e-mail address.

But it's just the script, right? I just had to ask, since we're talking about a movie project.

yup, it's just the script. It's a long one though.

I think I'm really keen currently on seeing more people give me critisisms, thinking about it, so I'll try and spread the message (not in other topics of course, that would just be douchebaggery.)
This forum makes me happy and hyped.

The script is awesome! I can see why you said some of it is bad, but golly I loved it. I hope you succeed in your efforts. I wish I could spread this message on my forum, but only two members are active (including me), and the other guy can only be so interested in FFIX. Less than I.

I'm glad you did like it! It's nice to know that it was liked, Perhaps I won't have to change as many things as I thought I might...

Definitely will try to get this out a bit more for people to take a look at. Everyone is welcome!

Best of luck to you. FFIX fanatics will love it. At least I hope they do. Let me know how I can help this project, even if it's just a tiny task.

You were kind of right about the beginning, though. There was some things I didn't like, but even in great stories no one is bound to like aboslutely everything. :)

This sounds like an interesting and highly creative project. The MediaFire link doesn't work anymore - is the script still available?

Don't know if this is a silly question, but how will the backgrounds/scenery/props work? Do you not have any or will they be made of clay/paper or CG...?

The backgrounds, scenery and props is probably the one daunting thing I'm worried about and it's the question I've asked myself many times. I have found equipment and ways to get around it such as green screens but of course it's not going to work every time, so my main goal is create something that at least has all the animation and dialogue that I'd like. Another reason why I'm essentially advertising within the interest of the fanbase.

Oh, and I'll upload the script again here to see if it works.
