As the title says im 6 hours into the game and while the graphics are nice enough, i'm finding it a bit boring. There isn't really any real reason to me doing all these puzzles, it just feels like a Zelda game. In fact, the big boss i've just faced was like something out of a Zelda game. This is not why i bought FF12 !!! I've got used to the battle system and i can just about stand it now, but i must say, the storyline is almost non-existant. Every now and then you get a little cut-scene with some talking but i'm missing the dialogue from the older games in the series. In the older games you get more dialogue and then a cut-scene , then you have the adventure, battling etc.

I can only hope the game gets more exciting, because FF7,8,9 all started off with action! And FFXII is starting really, really slowly.

Does it get better? Did you feel the same way? Let me know.

There's a load of threads like these...

But yes, it does improve. As soon as Archadia starts playing more of a direct role in the game, you'll find it quite compelling. The start of this game does drag out a bit, unfortunately. Just stick it out for a while, and it'll get so much better.

you're in the beginning dude, you're in for a treat. this game has one of the greatest storylines in ff history!
i agree it starts slowly, in fact I got lost in rabanastre a couple of times, but once you get used to the city, its beautiful! just have patience

Your only 6 hrs into it. All FF games have a similar sort of beginning, just give it time. Just like the above poster said..just..have patience :P

I've only played for 10 hours and I still hate it. O_O

While I play the game, my next goal I'm supposed to focus on.... It's like I forget all the time. So far it's been Go somehwhere> Fight a Boss> possibly fight another boss that's an Esper. (At least, I'm pretty sure it went that way...)

The game is really repetitive.

Slow your role there. Best storylines in FF history? haha. A joke, that is. It has the potential to be one of the best if it was done correctly.

I am sorry to say that the story line probably gets no deeper than what you are seeing now and there are probably not many cut-scenes and FMV scenes ahead. =/. The ones you do see are quite beautiful though.

The battle system is the only thing that kept me interested.

This game ... there's never a grey area in the middle, you either love it or hate it. I somehow compelled myself to play it thrice in a row, so hopefully that tells you if I think it's worth it or not.

It's not really anymore repetitive than any other Final Fantasy game. It's just because it's new and state-of-the-art, people aren't quite comfortable with the dramatic change.

I'm allfor that perfect 40/40 score it received.

I think you're being a little too harsh on the game in general. Sure, it isn't the best, but by no means is it as drab as you're making it sound. There's plenty of aspects which keep the player interested other than the battle system.

hmm thanks, ill keep playing it but i'm not exactly enjoying it..

i mean, lets take FFVII, VIII and IX.

FFVII started out with you joining Avalanche to blow up a reactor. Lots of fast paced gameplay , then you get to know Cloud was an ex-SOLDIER. Lots of mystery why he left etc, it makes you keep playing.

FFVIII started you in the hospital bed, then you walked out into a beautiful Balamb Garden, beautiful music and then you rushed out to get Infrit.. great times.

FFIX which i recently started again has you in the Prima Vista and then you fight the guy that later turns out to be the leader of the group! Baku. Soon enough you're in Alexandria, doing the play which is reminiscent of FF6's Opera Scene, then you're running through the woods in what i think is one of the best moments in Final Fantasy.

In XII....well, not much has even happened AT ALL. You obviously start out having the real-time battles (which is just not half as much fun as random battles), then it's blank.. there's just nothing special at all. Level-design if you would call it that is horrible, although the graphics kinda make up for that. There are too many puzzles, something which shouldn't ever be in a FF title and as a result, im not enjoying it. Maybe i wont. After looking at FFVII, VIII and IX which are on my shelf right now, im thinking of getting them down and playing them instead.

FFXII just isn't floating my boat.:worried:

Yes, the graphics are amazing and the story line it does have, is done nicely. I guess wanting to know more kept me going but, I'd only try to beat it once.

Getting all the extra stuff is the most fun, I think. Hunts, Espers, etc...

It's not horrendous but I do think it that from the 6 hours he's played he's not getting that much more. It will get better, alittle bit. Don't expect things to go into great detail though.

It's not a game for everyone, granted, but it's still worth a play-through. If you're so put off right now, do not try to press on. You'll only feel the same throughout the entire game. You're better off completing other titles before attempting XII again, to save you getting quite so bored of it when you pick it up one more time.

Even though I'm far from thinking it deserves a perfect 40/40... you probably shouldn't judge it so early. Granted your opinion may not change... but you never know. Then again I was swept away in the first few moments... so if your not then it's not looking good.

Well Shyne, i was having the same problem as you...still kinda am, but i found a few things to help you enjoy the game.

1. Do not look at this game as part of the main Final Fantasy series, instead, think of it like it's part of the Tactics series. In all truth, it really is, just a different style of battles. The summons, the world, lots of things come from the Tactics series. Actually, it does become pretty interesting when you find out about the Ivalice Compilation (okay, not an official name). There actually is a timeline in the compilation, like so:

XII ---- Tactics ---- Vagrant Story ---- Tactics Advance ---- Tactics A2

2. Forget about story, about characters, forget that they should have been there. Just look at it as ginormous piece of eye candy, plus some fairly okay gameplay.

3. Do some hunts, some optional side quests, focus on getting loot for bazaar goods so you can get leet weapons, try getting chains too. It seems like it would be boring just killing the same type of monster, but it actually does get addictive as you see that chain number going up and up.

Just try to distract yourself from thinking about the pathetic story and characters, and you should be able to enjoy it more. I hope that helps ^_^

I was really dissapointed the first couples of hours i played FF12, but it got alot better later on even though the characters and story sucked.

Anyway i enjoy the game much but it just doesnt give me the good feeling that all the other final fantasy titles does.

Haha. You might enjoy the story and characters more then this person up above ever did. You might surprise yourself ^_^

What...story? <.<
An ancient renegade god is influencing an empire to go on a conquest
...they COULD have done more with that, but they didnt. They could have made Ashe something else besides a whiny bitch too.

And the only good characters in the game, IMO, are Fran and Balthier. They actually have decent personalities and...well...about as much backstory as you'll find in the game -__-

Im 30+ hours into this game, mainly leveling up and doing side quests and Im enjoying it. You have to give this game a chance. Seriously, just play it some more and find out for yourself how good this game is.

Actually, Ashe has a nice backstory as well as Fran and Balthier.

The story really could've been much better. I mean...I think the Espers deserved more story and that they needed more cutsceens and FMV shots. It would've made much of a difference.

Plus it seemed likethe characters were just thrown together and they didn't really form a Team like in FFVII-FFX.

If you side track from the story and just go around exploring and killing random things youd most likely get bored easily and the game doesnt start getting good till you have all your party members anyways

Yes but Ashe is insanely annoying <.<

The Espers had the most backstory of anything in the game! They could have made this game like VI, where the Espers played a much bigger role in the story, and it would have been quite feasible too.

And of course the characters are thrown together, they all just randomly bump into each other and go along for the ride. Vaan and Penelo are basically just tagging along to sight-see, for christ's sake.

Lol… Only 6 hours?

………I’m sure you’re further along by now, that is…if you’re still playing it. Either way, I’d definitely have patience as the true story has yet to really being.

Does it get better? Yes it does, in my opinion. For me, the story actually started getting interesting just after the Tomb of Raithwall. Again, for me, everything (Storyline wise) just seems to pickup after that point.
