im hearing all sorts of different opinions on the 3DS cause of how it was launched and id like to here yours... personally idc how it was launched i just think it sucks... i tried the demo one they had at game stop and my eyes throbbed after 5 seconds of the 3D... this system will make people blind within the next 10 years of its life... so IMO its a fail

please tell your reason why...

In terms of sales figures and software library? The 3DS is clearly stamping its stilettos deep into the Vita's cranium as it's easily walking all over Sony's machine. Unless Sony gets a fucking clue and decide to do something for the Vita instead of the embarrassing "oh shit, we forgot about the Vita! Yeah, in hindsight, we ought to have shown more shit for it at our E3 convention and stalls!", they're allowing the 3DS an easy win. If we're counting Apple's devices as being in a similar market to the handhelds, then that could be a slightly different story.

What do I think of the 3DS? Well, firstly, I don't own one, and I don't intend to unless it has something absolutely enticing. Even then, I've lost interest in handhelds, so I will probably never bother with the 3DS, let alone the ailing Vita. I have tried one out. The 3D also messes with my eyes, and I find myself turning off the function immediately while I was on Pilotwings because it was that unbearable to me. Innovation my arse when your selling point is a silly 3D glasses-free gimmick that just gives me an uncomfortable headache more than anything.

Nintendo are proving themselves to be just as inept, albeit in a different way. While Sony seems complacent with the software, they do have the hardware. At least with the Vita, I get the impression that they didn't halfheartedly knock a final prototype together without much of a thought, and did strive to make the best handheld entertainment system possible - its questioning success so far another matter. The 3DS on the other hand? Well, let's see: the PSP was criticised since its release back in - what? 2004-5? - for not having a second analogue stick, which made certain controls awkward. Did Nintendo observe its competitor's woes and implement the easy solution? NO. It gives the 3DS only one and leaves it at that, while the wretched CirclePad Pro 3rd party attachment only demonstrates how half-arsed the 3DS was designed and made.

Now they're releasing the 3DS XL thing. Bigger screen with the same resolution as the 3DS? Oh, I cannot wait to see my games on bigger screens - only noticeably uglier because of the same QVGA resolution! Doh! Still no second analogue stick, but then again, why am I surprised? CirclePad Pro will obviously not work with this larger device and Nintendo have the sheer idiotic audacity to assume that the people who will be buying the 3DS XL will be upgrading from their original 3DSs. So they refuse to ship the device with an AC adaptor. They are leaving out something fucking crucial for the machine to work and I can imagine the bewilderment and complaints from first-time buyers. Come to think of it, I don't even think my original first model brick DS had one either - otherwise I wouldn't be using my old GameBoy Advance SP charger for it. -__-

tl;dr

It's a clear fail in my eyes because Nintendo is just stupid, but with how shoddy the Vita is performing right now, the 3DS is clearly the dominant handheld. Now if you excuse me, Satoru Iwata is kind of busy at the moment:

Personally, I don't really care much for the 3D capabilities of the 3DS. I've tried out a friend's 3DS and it also annoyed me greatly and left me with quite a bit of a headache.

I have not purchased one yet but the ONLY reason I'm getting one is because more and more games are being released for the 3DS and the DS/DSi is becoming gradually obsolete (much to my dismay because I honestly prefer the DSi at this point).

Also, I believe that the 3DSXL/LL/whatever the hell is a complete waste of time. They're using the same old tactic they used with the DS. How surprising. -___-; If there were some new features, such as the 2nd analog stick as Fleur mentioned, then it would have a much better selling point perhaps. I don't understand why the 3DS is so darn small to begin with.

Anyhow~ I guess it's a good thing that I put off getting a 3DS all this time, 'cause I'm kinda interested in the purple version... xD

I own a 3DS. I wasn't planning on getting one until a ton of good third-party games got released, but thankfully, when I got it, it was of no cost to me as a birthday present. Presently speaking, the 3DS kind of lacks in all areas except for technical specs. Let's face it, playing a portable system that has the same technical and graphical flair as a current-gen console is a staggering fact, and the people who haven't gotten a 3DS don't realize how much of a technical upgrade from the original DS systems it is.

On the flip-side, though, Nintendo hasn't exactly made a lot of must-own games that show off the capabilities of the system, and third-party gems are just slowly pouring in like molasses on a December morning... In Antarctica. There's a lot of technically unnecessary remakes (MGS3, which in the past year has been ported to all consoles but the Wii), or sequels to games with too many sequels (pretty much anything Nintendo makes that isn't a new IP... Scratch that, ANYTHING NINTENDO MAKES). There's some retro remakes, which I can accept more. Hell, I hadn't played Ocarina of Time or owned Starfox 64 in the past because I never really owned a 64, so those particular remakes are up my alley. Soon, some good releases are going to hit the 3DS possibly, like ATLUS's Shin Megami Tensei Franchise confirming a Soul Hackers remake for the 3DS (which is HUGE, Soul Hackers was never released overseas) and that Shin Megami Tensei IV will also be on the 3DS. Fingers crossed on Soul Hackers getting an international release, though I'm more positive SMT IV will see other shores most definitely. As far as good games exclusive to the 3DS, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Resident Evil: Revelations, which plays pretty much like Resident Evil 4 with Resident Evil 1/2 type atmosphere.

To be honest, one of the things that had me a bit excited for the 3DS was the eShop with Virtual Console games and such. Judging by the hardware of the 3DS, I was expecting to see 3DS conversion of every console up to and maybe including the gamecube being available to peruse and accumulate for your little system, but nope. The eShop is mostly indie games (y'know, the not technically impressive, 'we came up with a quirky puzzle game' type of indie game) and NES and Gameboy/Gameboy Color games, and no, most likely, they're not the ones you'd want. Like, for me, I could see them releasing all the poke'mon games from gameboy to gameboy advance on virtual console with reworked wireless trade/battle mechanics on virtual console, but alas, Nintendo has never been that smart. Most of the best games are ambassador-exclusive. Basically, if you're an ambassador (you bought the 3DS when it just came out for ~$300 and were generally a stupid consumer), Nintendo rewards you with many of the best games for free, while giving absolutely no option for other 3DS owners to buy those titles, Nintendo being the elitist Nazi's they are, promoting the deep-pocketed master race in the middle of a freaking recession.
