360 and HD DVD, loss of value?

Well blu-Ray is the apparant winner, and microsoft isnt planning on making a blu ray attachment....so do you think this hurt future 360 sales? Ive been on the fence as to whether to get the 360 or ps3, and this could very well be the tipping point. I already have a wii and enjoy it thoroughly, but want to play more of the great titles out.

The ps3 costs the same as a blu-ray player anyway, so it seems like a logical choice now. Any comments?
 
It depends what you want it for, if you want it mainly for the DVD part, then buy the PS3, since it has the Blu-ray capabilities, and what-not, but if you don't really care, you'd still get the 360 for the games.
 
Personally no, I have had 2 Xbox 360's (blasted red ring of death!) and I haven't bought one HD-DVD, neither has my friend. As a matter of fact i don't see the difference between normal DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. So nah, I don't think it will affect sales, I think majority of people still stick with normal DVD's (they look better anyway, without the crappy blue around it, oh haha get it its blue! =.=)
 
If I were you, I would buy a PS3. Reasons:
-Blu Ray Player
-Can play games
-DVD Player

All in one. What else do you need?

Of course, I am not sure what Microsoft will do, but I am certain of one thing: they won't let the XBox 360 fall down due to lack of compatibility, so they might make a new XBox or something.
 
I say PS3. Firstly, I just can't stand the Xbox anyway, but, I have a reason this time.

If you want to watch Blu-Rays, yeah, get the PS3, that'll not waste any money.

Plus, most Xbox games come out on the playstation anyway

Yeah, including Call of Duty 4, which a very important factor. Besides, Assassin' Creed is also on the PS3, and aside from that, I don't see any other cool games that could make me want to buy an XBox 360, besides Halo 3, even though Call of Duty 4 pawns Halo 3.
 
And, it's like you said, the PS3 costs as much as a blu-ray player anyway, so if blu-ray is that important for you, then buy a PS3, since it'll be far cheaper in the long run.
 
the problem with 7th Gen is that most games get released on at least two of the systems, which is kind of pointless, I like Xbox 360, thats just what I originally got, but i don't see it being any different for PS3. However im being optomistic, I don't mind which system wins the war, but with the sales rate (Halo 3 selling more copies then PS3 has sold consoles) it looks like PS3 is going to loose
 
I agree with you Kev. Wii's and Xbox 360's are still flying out of shelves around here. I've seen large stacks in retail stores of PS3s and they're usually sold out of Xbox 360's and Wii's.

I don't think the whole HD/Blu-ray is going to effect the Xbox 360 at all. I believe most Xbox 360 buyers aren't interested in HD movies, they buy the Xbox 360 for the system it's self. The Xbox 360 does have it's exclusives. Also HD/Blu-Ray DVDs is a luxury after all. High definition movies need to be played on a high definition TV to see it's true sharpness. Also the price for HD movies are 30 dollars each, which is very costly.

I know Id buy a PS3 over an X-Brick any day of the week, I just don't like them, but as for the blu-ray aspect? I couldn't give a monkeies. il still just use my DVD player, I mean, how drastic is the picture quality really?

And Blu-Ray DVD's are more expensive, stuff that

Altho, as said above, 360's and Wii's are flying off the shelves round here aswel buuut the sales do seem to be picking up for PS's as I actually know afew people taht have ne now as opposed to just the one :wacky:
 
i heard from gamespot that Sony is in talk with M$ to make a blu-ray add-on for the 360.

i'm with frisky, the blu-ray aspect just just isn't worth it.....yet. until HD TV's become the norm just like widecreen then it will become the standard. until then DVD is still my preferred option, the PS3 apparently even upscales them but i might be wrong, so there's no real need for blu-ray yet.

i got it for the exclusives and the games currently out now.
 
I have a HD TV but from what Iv seen I cant see any difference in picture quality. The only pictures that look even remotely bad are VHS's, but even those are passable

Or maybe Im just not as fussy as some. The only reason I went HD in the first place was because I thought my old TV broke so I bought myself a new one, and even then I only wanted it coz it was big :wacky: Plus we have that whole 'digital switchover' thing going on soon so I thought I may aswel

So, sod HD its just one one big rip off >_<
 
The fact that Blu Ray won the format war between the two is probably because the PS3 had it from the start, however I don't think that it would have made much difference when people considered buying it since most people still don't have a great idea about Blu-Ray or just don't give a shit yet beyond those who just love having the tech.

I think that people who bought the 360 got it either for Halo 3, it was out first, Xbox Live and that it had/has a decent selection of exclusive games that appeal to it's main market. The PS3 has the PlayStation brand attached to it and even without any of its big hitters it's been outselling the 360 WW for a good while now.

Also I believe Microsoft or someone else has said at one time that there may be a Blu-Ray attachment for the 360 at some point in case Blu-Ray won.

But I don't think that it'll lower the value of the 360, just raise the value of the PS3 if Blu-Ray really takes off in a few years.
 
I think X-Box 360 has held up pretty well in this generation. I don't think the Blu Ray/DVD thing made much of a difference. I know for sure that when I got the X-Box, it was because the library of games seemed much better. I don't know if I'm ever gonna go back to Playstation after seeing how awesome Xbox is. I still watch DVD and VHS. We don't have any HD TV's either. So we don't really give a damn about all that. The games are most important on a game console.
