We have a few of those unverified-but-probably-true early flying get bits from this week's Weekly Famitsu concerning Final Fantasy XIII-2's download content, and even a tiny mention for Final Fantasy X HD.

Square Enix previously said that Lightning would appear in the game as DLC. Famitsu reveals that Lightning will appear as a coliseum character. Defeat her, and you'll be able to make her into a party member.

Lightning's DLC goes beyond just the character data. Square Enix also plans on releasing secret story episodes for the character.

Outside of Lightning, FF fans can look forward to classic Final Fantasy series bosses for the coliseum battle mode.

These revelations come from what appears to be a general interview with reps from Square Enix's 1st Production Department (I'm not sure who the reps are, but XIII-2 interviews are usually with Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase). The interview also reveals that Square Enix is hoping to expand the XIII-2 story outside of just DLC, with novels and so-forth. They hope to include Sazh and his son and the Chocolina character in DLC or novels. Noting that the Japanese market is changing greatly, they say that they'd like to consider a variety of things for future developments.

There's one bit about Final Fantasy X HD in the interview. The staff says that it will be a bit longer before we get screenshots. However, they hope to not take too long in releasing the game.

Oh well. If you look at things positively, it's actually a good thing since XIII fans were asking for a playable Lightning. But this only shows further that SE is giving us an incomplete game.

Meh. I'm happy with the addition of playable Lightning and her secret scenarios anyway.

The novels concern me... We NEVER get the extras like novels. :( I'll be surprised if we are provided with all of the DLC... If anything important is not provided, I won't be happy! :ness:

However, I have no problem with them doing this if they localise everything. The idea of FF novels excites me! :D Furthermore, it sounds like they're doing exactly what I hoped they would - they're exploring the characters in depth. :)

A sequal with false advertisement as Lightning on the cover.
1.5 years development.
Incomplete with open endings.
Paid DLC to fill up certain gaps. Most gaps already filled with mini/games/side quests etc.

What is this game in total?
This game could have easily been a handheld title and Type-0 should have been a ps3 title imo.

I still think FFXIII-2 is a poor sequal. Worse than FFX-2. I actually liked FFX-2 for its originality compared to older FF titles.

It is criminal that Sazh hardly plays a part in this sequel. If there was one thing that would have been worth playing for in this game, it would be Sazh, the only above-par character, and they've decided to give him cameos, while people like Hope and Snow get their own larger bits. I wouldn't buy any of the DLC out of principle, but I would be a lot more interested in Sazh scenarios than Lightning, who as a character is just so overrated.

Colosseum could easily be part of the game rather than as a DLC attachment. If something like that had happened with FFVI, I definitely wouldn't be pleased. And people who ask me why I've an issue with DLC like this when I don't with other games like Fallout, how about I count the way? Fallout DLC for instance, usually come later, and bring to the table considerably more content crafted post-release for your money:

and a game like Fallout would have an actual ending!

Here, Square-Enix has been shouting about DLC content before the game even hit Japan, and something like this could easily have made it on the disc. It's cynical money-grabbing.

I don't think Sazh should play any role in Final Fantasy XIII-2, if any. He was the single person that really had his story wrapped up in Final Fantasy XIII, his main intention was only ever to get his son back. Nor do I really think this piece of DLC necessarily makes the game incomplete, it just prolongs the playing time further down the line, Bioshock also had similar DLC with the challenge rooms, and Fallout has already been mentioned.

I still see this game pissing all over Final Fantasy X-2, XII and XIII, certainly for enjoyability at least.

Which wouldn't really be difficult :wacky:

my biggest scare is the pricing for the dlc...knowing square its gunna cost a shit load....and im gunna buy it with hopefully no regret

It's US$2.99 for Lightning+Amodar

SE has never been bad with DLC pricing. It's Capcom and EA you have to watch out for
