I was wondering. How many people used the Reaction Commands to kill the 1000 Heartless vs just hacking and slashing through them. Personally, I love games like Dyansty Warriors, where you just charge into a hoard of enemies and rape them, so I shunned Reaction Commands for this battle.

I used reaction commands because it was a little faster, and it looked nice. I'm not the kind of person to sit back and hack and slash through a thousand heartless continuously and break my fingers. xP

I used reaction commands. It's not as if the battle is substantially more difficult if you refrain from using the commands. Personally, I wasn't interested in killing the same Heartless for half an hour. I wanted to get it over with.

Yep, I used the reaction commands, it's fun to be amongst that many enemies, but a real killer on the fingers so the sooner they're dead the better. Why put in extra effort if you don't get anything for it?

I would just use reaction commands and occasionally switch to hack and slash when I got bored, then after I killed a few by hacking and slashing I just switched back to reaction commands. :monster:

I used the reaction commands, I pretty much just mashed the triangle button the whole way through. The battle lasted long enough as it is. There was no way I was gunna prolong the agony

PLus the reaction commands looked cool

What he said.

The 1000 Heartless battle was easily the most disappointing thing in KH2. From the...what was it anyway, trailers? The vidya with the Behemoth leading a horde of Heartless down the valley. I was expecting something fantastically epic like that, but not only was the Behemoth NOWHERE to be found in the game, you only fought two types of Heartless. And they weren't even difficult types either!

So yeah, I mostly used reaction commands because the battle was just boring. Every now and then I'd stop and bash on them with the keyblade, but that was just as easy and took too long.

...Dynasty Warriors is much more fun when it comes to mindless hacking and slashing and large battles, too.

I automatically used Reaction Comands without thinking, but I'd like to try to fight the 1000 Heartless without using it in at least one play through ^^

Although, judging by the last couple of heartless I defeated, if you managed to get past Demyx, then these guys shouldn't be too hard to do defeat

I disliked the 1000 heartless battle altogether. To me it just took KH2's button mashing to a whole new level and I basically just used reaction commands to hasten the battle so that I could get it over and done with because there was nothing whatsoever to make me want to make the battle go on longer. It was tedious really =[ .

I was expecting some sort of epic battle as well. The trailer shows a horde of Heartless with two Behemoths in the mix. What do we get when the final product releases? A bunch of wussy Heartless who attack in waves. There's 1,000 of 'em, but really, you're only fighting a dozen at a time. No Behemoths, no challenge, no fun. Definitely disappointing.

yea i was expecting the same.basically a small war with the heartless, but not that small war.im talking about behemoths and other types, not just 2 types of heartless

Seeing as how they made the battle go much faster, I did use the reaction commands. When I made it to this point in the game, all I wanted to do was get on with the storyline, and I didn't feel like hacking through all of the heartless when I had an easy way out.

I only use the ray reaction command when it was available, other wise I would just kill them easily I have explosion equipped so it'll kinda pierce them when I finish my combo .>.>

I heard that. Man, when I first went into the 1000 Heartless Battle, I was expecting it to be indescribably epic. And, to be fair, the cut scene before the battle was pretty epic in and of itself. The actual fight, though, was a horrible disappointment. Seriously, I don't care if they want to omit the Behemoths, but a little variety beyond basic foot soldiers and little electric lantern things would've been nice. Really, in good KH2 fashion, it was just another bout of mashing X and occasionally Triangle. If Sora couldn't wipe out about a dozen Heartless with a single combo, then fifty more with a Reaction Command, and the Heartless could do more than walk around and occasionally swing their swords, maybe it would've been a bit more exciting. The battle system is partially to blame, really.

Anyway, I didn't use Reaction Commands the first time I went through the battle, mainly to prove that I didn't need them. Sort of an "I can quit anytime I want!" sort of thing. The second time, though, I was doing a Low Level Proud Mode run, so I pretty much had to use them a bit.

What about those little mini-fights that preceeded the actual battle? Where Cloud drops in, and Tifa and Yuffie and whoever else. I guess it's supposed to make you go "HOLY ASPERGERS IM FIGHTING ALONGSIDE TIFA HOW EPIC IS THIS SHIT?!" but instead it was completely dull and boring because it was small groups of the same weak heartless you'd fought a hundred times before in Hollow Bastion.

The variety of heartless in the game itself was disappointing as well. KH1 had some amazing heartless that were actually somewhat challenging to fight, like the Defender:

and the Invisible (real tough in groups):

and the Angle Star (could get hard to handle in the coliseum fights):

and the Wyvern (who actually was easy, but it did look cool)

Now if you'd fought a giant thousand-strong group of THOSE heartless, and maybe had a Behemoth tossed in for good measure, that would have been something to shit brix about. But button mashing against two weak types of heartless who barely even attacked you was sleep-inducing.

To be fair, I don't think those fights were supposed to be incredibly epic. Now, this is just my personal interpretation, but I believe that the Final Fantasy Ally fights were supposed to be building up to something epic (the 1000 Heartless Battle). Really, they did that quite nicely. It was probably just meant to give you a sense of the scope of the battle you were involved in. There was a literal army of Heartless swarming Hallow Bastion, and it was a big enough deal that pretty much everyone capable of fighting was forced to do their part if the group wanted any chance of victory. I will, however, say this; those fights could've been very epic if they were done correctly. They, too, were done all wrong. Sora was teaming up with veterans of Final Fantasy games to fight...a bunch of low-level Heartless and the occasional Morning Star.

...Are you serious? Why not have Sora and Cloud team up against a trio of Behemoths flanked by a group of those foot soldier Heartless? Or Sora and Leon/Squall versus a large number of Samurai Heartless? Make the arena bigger. I do not want to watch Squall bat away several dozen Shadows in what amounts to be a small hallway. I have to admit, the idea of Sora fighting alongside Final Fantasy characters is, on its own, a very potentially-epic idea. The extraordinarily poor execution is what made it lacking. The shock value of "Holy cheese, I'm fighting alongside Cloud Strife!" will only last for so long...meaning a few seconds. The same can be said for anyone they throw in there to fight next to you. If the fight itself isn't well-done, it isn't going to be epic. That's what's wrong with the 1000 Heartless Battle, and that's what's wrong with the FF Cameo Battles.

Yes, it's true that KH1 had vastly superior Heartless to KH2, and, if those Heartless were included in the 1000 Heartless Battle, it easily would've been the most exciting fight in the game. The real problem with the Heartless in KH2, though, is that most of them are just too...cartoon-y. In KH1, the Heartless- even the lowly minions- were designed in a way that made them look like a genuine threat. Some of them were even a bit intimidating. They were part of what gave the game its amazing atmosphere, which was probably the original Kingdom Hearts' strongest point. They just...looked exactly the way I'd expect creatures composed entirely of darkness to look; sinister and ruthless in an almost artistic way. The Invisibles, Wyverns, and Defenders were probably the best examples of this. They don't necessarily inspire fear, more like a sense of twisted wonder. You could look at any Heartless and say "This is a creature of the darkness."

In KH2, though, it was almost as though Square were trying to parody itself, really. It was quite ridiculous. I really don't like the direction they're going with the series in terms of the Heartless. The Nobodies are fine, I suppose, but the Heartless are mere shadows (no pun intended. I wouldn't stoop to that level) of what they used to be. Whereas before, they were menacing, now they're...jokes. I'm not speaking in terms of difficulty, either, because I believe KH2FM fixed that with Critical Mode. I'm talking about their designs. It's almost impossible to take most of them seriously. I understand that the game is supposed to be kid-friendly, but must the bad guys look like they come from the ghettos of Sesame Street? The first game did this wonderfully. I'm not sure what went wrong. Maybe they just ran out of good ideas, but if that's the case, I personally would've rather seen them recycle the old Heartless for one more game...

I quite agree. It made it look like it was an actual crisis...and then you end up fighting pathetically weak heartless. Even the morning stars were just giant punching bags. I don't think it helped matters that Sora was vastly stronger than the FF characters and could wipe out nearly all the heartless before Cloud/Squall/Tifa even got to them.

...Are you serious? Why not have Sora and Cloud team up against a trio of Behemoths flanked by a group of those foot soldier Heartless? Or Sora and Leon/Squall versus a large number of Samurai Heartless? Make the arena bigger.

Now that would have been epic :neomon:

The extraordinarily poor execution is what made it lacking.

Pretty much. If the game hadn't been completely BUTTON MASHAN then it would have been better. Even the God of War series has had its fair share of challenging battles, and all that game is is button mashing.

I think the Nobodies are the main problem. I'm guessing Square was more focused on them since they were a new plotline and didn't pay as much attention to the Heartless. But yeah, the heartless in this game aren't very intimidating..well, aside from the bosses. That thing in Beast's Castle (forgot its name) actually looked scary. And the heartless bosses for Pride Rock and Land of the Dragons were some of the best battles in the game. If only there had been more of that.

Reaction commands made it more fun and interesting to watch while bodies flew across my tv screen. I tried not using them but it wasnt very fun and it took alot longer to dispatch them.

Yeah, it sorta made it easyer.

But i was hoping so see more of this through the game, i was dissapointed to see that there wasn't.

All and all that was he most fun i've had on KHII. I love games just charging into a war field and slashing your way through. (Sorta like Dynasty Warriors).

i used everything i had with me, which was my keyblade, my magic, and reaction commands. i used all of them, just to speed up the fight, as i didn't want to stick around with them and i wanted to kill more nobodies. at least the nobodies are a challenge.
