Last weekend at the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary event, team Final Fantasy XIV showed off more of the vast changes coming to Eorzea in January’s reboot. The entire hour-long presentation is now online for your viewing pleasure, and be sure to enable English subtitles on the video!

Director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida takes us through A Realm Reborn, with appearances by Luminous technical director Yoshihisa Hashimoto, assistant director Kazuya Niinou, battle director Akihiko Matsui, and sound director Masayoshi “Loves-Knee-High-Socks” Soken. Together they explain how the game was rebuilt from the ground up.

Well, I actually watched the whole presentation! @_@ It was very good though - I was entertained && informed! There were a few funny bits in there. The directors seem like an awesome group of people & you can tell that they really love working on the game~ xD

I'm pretty excited about the new Arcanist job class; it seems to be a Saboteur/Summoner type (they explained it around 50min.) It does "long term damage and debuffs" and can "summon pets" (they used Carbuncle as an example). I wonder how many other types of pets there will be! o_o;

Also, the updates seem somewhat minor to me, but that's because I only got to play FFXIV for like one week && it was a pretty laggy/underwhelming experience since my laptop wasn't super-powered enough to handle the game to its fullest potential, lol.

With that said, I will definitely purchase the PS3 version of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn! ^^ I'm glad that they were able to update the gameplay and graphics even for the PS3 version of the game. I'm a bit worried about my PS3 surviving until then, but hopefully it will be fine... x__x

This may be the first MMO that I actually end up playing. Im going to wait though to see if I can get into the Beta or how previews/reviews talk about the game. Normally I dont care, but FFXIV was terrible and I dont want to throw down money on something that isnt worth it at this point.

Im also waiting for the PS3 version I hope it wont have ppl from the pc servers as they are already leveled up etc.

For those tht never played a MMMORPG before do some research before making a char. I know I have too.Thing is you have certain builds -> pure strength, pure mana or hybrids.

I will probably make full mana mage, or dragoon. If you want to play this seriously I suggest do consider well what build and class you want. Even I am unsure.

:hmmm:

Dragoon or Mage hmmm. Definitely want to ride a Chocobo.. Probably make a guild clan someday called Chocobo Knights or Justice League.

P2p so monthly subscription.. Could play for several months. We will see.

It certainly looks better than before, a lot better. I've played some MMORPGS, but not for long. I think it might be Sony/Final Fantasy that would make me actually play one, and I would really like to be able to enjoy it on a PS3, but that monthly fee is too much for me.

This looks very promising. I definitely plan o buying the PC version because i hate chatting on PS3.

The biggest difference about a Final Fantasy MMO and other MMOs is that they work hard to remain a Final Fantasy game. Great story, and a job system that allows 1 character to do everything. There is absolutely zero need to make more than 1 character in this game. You can do everything: Craft, gather, be a Paladin, Dragoon, Black Mage, White Mage, etc etc. FFXIV's armoury system allows you to change classes based on weapon equipped (Gladiator, Lancer ). Then later equip job stones once you unlock them via quests and class requirements. (Paladin requires lvl 30 Gladiator and lvl 15 Conjurer). Mind you it will take a while to learn how to do everything, but the possibility is there.

This Armoury System already existed since launch, but the job system is a completely new addition during the re-development.

I'm not a big MMO guy, because I really get bored of the typical style. However I can say I have sunk significant time into FF XI and FF XIV. There is something about them that makes them different (and if XIV's launch wasn't such an rushed old-school programming technical laggy nightmare it would have survived just fine if you ask me). A Realm Reborn is looking pretty good, and addressing the issues that players were upset about. As a current player I can not wait for the main storyline to resume, as it was put on hold until A Realm Reborn launches. The Seventh Umbral Era storyline that is being used to transition into 2.0 is quite good (but new players in 2.0 will never get to see it other than youtube), and shows me that this new team can do amazing things. I was excited, thrilled, and even saddened along the way.

For those of you who like their off-beat FF side-characters. They introduced probably one of my new favourites, Hildibrand, and his quirky sidekick Nashu.

If anyone wants advice into starting a Final Fantasy MMO character when 2.0 comes around, by all means ask. 2.0 looks to be a positive shift in SE philosophy. I stuck around in hopes that the game could become great, refusing to believe SE would let a Final Fantasy die such a horrible death. It seems that myself and those who currently play, might have actually been right.
