I too, am committed to playing the games in their original versions, and later going back through and playing remakes. In order to minimize the pain of this, it is best to start at the beginning with FFI on NES. Once you get past FFII things start to pick up.
Malboro because of bad breath. You have to be super-prepared when you meet one, or just run. Few enemies in video games fill me with dread when I see them: Malboro is definitely one. Omega Weapon from FFV deserves honorable mention, just because he is not automatically easy to avoid...
That is true I suppose. VIII was my first and my favorite so I always have a soft spot for everyone in that game (except Selfie). I think VIII's Cid looks a lot like Robin Williams
Those are good thoughts Galaxy, and I never knew that about FFX. Damn interesting too...they covered a lot of ground in 10 days. I will keep you guys posted
I admire all of you who are playing multiple FFs at the same time -- I can only play one and keep the story straight. I am currently almost to the middle of my play-all-the-FFs-marathon: I am halfway through FF6
Yeah, I know the feeling of thinking you might have missed something. It was way worse in the earlier NES and SNES games. In III and IV you spent hours searching for hidden (and I do mean hidden) passages in the walls to see if you missed anything. In III you needed to find them even to...
I agree that a remake could really help the PS3 win the console war (somehow there are STILL people who do not accept that it is an amazing piece of hardware). However, does Citizen Kane need a remake? Casablanca? Double Indemnity? Chinatown? Classics don't need remakes, despite using...
Hey guys. I am still on my marathon trek through the FF series and am nearing completing VI. As I start to think about VII, I am reminded of an article that I read (can't remember where for the life of me) that interviewed on of the people on the development team for VII that asserted that the...
First off, I can say with 99% certainty that there is no benefit as far as game content in this achievement: The game has been out long enough that somebody has doubtlessly accomplished the feat, and something would have been said by now. It is a very intriguing idea though. It would be a...
Love job Class systems. Of the four strict job class systems (III, V, Tactics, X-2) I think that V did the best job of creating a truly customizable experience. I love static classes too, like in IV, IX and X, because I think it forces you to think more strategically in battle
I found him very useful in VIII, he was that face that you were (almost) always hoping to see. I don't tend to rely on summons very much in other games, except for boss battles, and Odin does not work against bosses. I occasionally would try to use him to take out large groups of powerful...
GalaxyFlair: I am confused, you say that we should not criticize people for using a walkthrough, but also that an NPC character would only be fine for "lesser players?" I think walkthroughs are just fine: Whatever makes the game enjoyable for you. I also like the idea of an NPC informer...
Han -- I too struggled at first. I found it helpful to make little runs into it -- Go down and clear the first floor, come back up and use the free healing, venture a tiny bit into the second floor, come back up. Then I started getting some of the ultimate weapons, but would still return and...
I actually quite liked the revolving door of characters. It made the game feel more epic, more personal. When I lost somebody, it really affected me. My only gripe is that I thought
Sabriel is right, I think the official name is Strategic Turn Based Battle System. Note however that as far as character development goes, FFI I would call a character level up system; II I would call a skill level up system; and III of course is our introduction to the Job Class system
I played the game on NES, and it is indeed very, very hard. I think it took me two hours of grinding just to make it through the first dungeon. Item management is crucial, as is spell charge management. I did however spend loads of time grinding on the power peninsula, and later in the ice...
Jeff -
Three things: 1. I am from Oregon too, whereabouts are you located? 2. I really like the idea of note-taking and transforming it into a mini-story; I would really like to read yours sometime if you would not mind sharing. 3. At least in the NES version your parties arrangement...
