In order to get most of the legendary weapons, you usually have to do strange things (I can't name them because I don't know myself).
Because I don't use a guide and such (that's cheating!) I rarely have any legendary weapon if at all (aside of older FFs, there you just find them).

So I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have a in-game informer NPC?

You pay him money, and he gives you information. He can give you any sort of information. From basic monsters info, to location of strong optional bosses or legendary weapons.
Of course that the more valuable the info, the more you'll have to pay for it.
You may need to pay 100,000 or more gil for things like Excalibur's location and another 100,000 for how to get it (if there is some kind of trick to it).

Since players usually end up having tons of gil at end anyway, this will put the gil into some use.

That would be quite a good idea, some of the stuff in games are impossible to do without the guide. Like fuck you would know not to open certain chests in FFXII to get Zodiack Sphere. Hints for stupid shit like that would be grand instead of having to consult a guide for it

Well its nice tyo see young people are so opinionated I mean saying you dont use a walkthrough coz its cheating, who the hell are you to say such a thing, there is nothing wrong with a walkthrough. As for your idea its not such bad idea for the lesser players of this series to have someone give them what the rest of us can find out for our selves!

GalaxyFlair: I am confused, you say that we should not criticize people for using a walkthrough, but also that an NPC character would only be fine for "lesser players?" I think walkthroughs are just fine: Whatever makes the game enjoyable for you. I also like the idea of an NPC informer, sort of like a treasure hunter, maybe have Zidane make a cameo. I also liked the mechanic in V wherein there were ultimate weapons incorporated in the story line that were fairly easy to get, and hidden ultimate weapons that were very hard to get.

Dont worry about it confusion is a state we all find our selves in at some stage......
By lesser players I mean those who are not the hardest of the hardcore yknow the guys and girls who only buy the game on the spur of the moment kinda thing I buy a walk through for almost every FF game I have but not from the beging lik it took 2 years for me to get a FF10 walkthrough after I got it.
