I think nearly all, if not all lecturers are part time (certainly all of mine are anyway since they're barristers or lawyers too), so they're literally there to teach you the stuff, mark the essays and that is that, they don't care about uni policy really.
If you want formal just wear a skirt and tights and then a white shirt and/or blazer if you have one. I don't think she fell at my feet, it was just a casual conversation whilst we stood waiting to get our drinks at the bar.
