Well Xenoblade Chronicles is not really like the tales game at all. The fighting style is closer to FFXII but more engaging (I personally liked the fighting style in 12 so I am really enjoying it in this) The world is fucking huge, I've never played a JRPG with a world this big. The only downside is you can really tell you're playing on the wii because of the graphics (scenery is good, characters...not so good) also playing with the wii mote is shit so I bought a classic controller pro.
The story is about some giants who battled or something and killed eachother and their bodies fell into the sea and became land so people began to live on them and have so for years. Your main enemy so far are these mechanical things called Mechon and you get a powerful sword called Monado which can let you see the future (you can see the future in battle too to avoid attacks)
Not sure if I've done it any justice with my shit explanation but you should definitely pick it up
