while playing a video game........

and nobody noticed:

Concentration and focus on the task at hand trumps all else.

I am not a fan of MMO's.I assume this guy was playing one of those and the other people playing whatever games they were playing were too busy with their own pursuits to notice he wasn't moving.

Most gamers are somewhat isolated and at times antisocial individuals as it is.So people try not to pay attention to others and just focus on their own concerns.
Probably wouldn't have made any difference in this guy's case anyway. He was most likely gone quickly. But someday something similar might happen where quick action could save a life and then what ?

shrugs.

Such is the evil of MMO's.

To be honest I don't really understand the addiction, some people act as if it's crack :\

I don't really know what to think about vidya game addiction. On the one hand some of the extreme consequences of addiction are sad and make me feel bad for the people they affect. On the other hand I can't help but think of how pathetic the whole concept of it is. It just shows how absorbed in entertainment we are.

I don't like the idea that everyone who didn't notice he was dead was clearly a self absorbed bastard. It's dark in there and you probably wouldn't pay much heed to the other people in the cafe, why would you?

It's sad what happened I suppose, but difficult to care about as much as other addictions.

I have the same problem koreans have. If I start gaming it can become an addition. That's the main reason I don't own a PS3, xbox360 or newer FPS capable PC.

Maybe 3 months ago, when I had 2-3 days where I didn't have to do anything... I played through Final Fantasy Tactics. I think I put in 18+ hours the first day before going to sleep. Woke up the second day. Put in another 18+ hours. Thankfully, it didn't take long to beat the game which made it easy to put it down & stop gaming for awhile.

I guess its a macho & philosophical thing, too. Asians probably all fantasize about being 'one with the machine' and achieving a superhuman degree of integration which allows them to achieve superhuman feats of intellect, strategy and coordination. Its not gaming to them, its more like a form of training. Like pokemon Ash vs Gary rivalry on crack?

Kind of like martial arts or kung fu training, except it doesn't hurt everytime you get punched in the face...?

I just don't see how this is possible for one. I mean yea it happens, but for me I can hardly play a game for 3-4 hours now a days before I get a huge mind numbing headache and my brain turns to complete mush. I know sometimes I even get to where I am feeling sick from playing... like I haven't been out at all. If I'm not wearing my glasses and wearing my contacts, my eyes turn red as well and I start to see all blurry especially in a darker setting.

I use to play hours and hours of Counter Strike and Team Fortress Classic. Team fortress classic a bit more, due to the more involved skill. Though I think the longest I ever went was around 11 hours, and by that time I could hardly speak without uttering something mildly retarded.

Even with Final Fantasy games, I think the longest I've played was 5 hours before I needed to go outside or go out to eat or just get out of the house. When I did play WoW I used to get up super early, but still I couldn't play more than 4 hours.

Again, I don't see how this shit happens. It makes me sort of depressed that an individual could do this all from an RTS.

I don't know how he could do it, I always stop playing to go to the bathroom and eat :hmmm: Playing a video game hungry sounds horrible :gonk: I need my foot :gonk:

Internet cafe? You know you have no life when you go play video games in those.

But really Their is some kind of Attraction in Video games which attract us what ever we wish :P

I have no sympathy whatsoever, anyone who puts themselves into such a position has it coming - his body will have sent messages, he simply chose to ignore them. Chances are plenty of people noticed him, bit quite obviously you wouldn't associate someone with being dead in an internet cafe. Unfortunate, but self-inflicted.

That's some pretty crazy stuff right there. I think i would have been freaked out if i was one of the players sitting next to him and did not notice. This kind of stuff happens all the time though, it just so happened that he was in an internet cafe when it did happen. Everyone go get yourself checked out at the doctors office so you can live a long healthy life :)
