Don't you think that there should not be an STR(strength) upgrade? Reason why I don't like it is because by the time you're at the end of the game, your magic is useless because your strength is stronger then your magic. The reason why I like Final Fantasy is the magic and summon and the item parts. I just like it because its unique. I think the Final Fantasy games should just have a weapon based STR. Like, the broadsword has 11 str or something. That way your magic will be more useful.

Well, if you play the FFs that are classes based then you will find more of what you are talking about. Example, Black Mage has low STR but high MAG, etc. etc. I think what they go for in other FF games, is the ability to customize or shape your character to what you want. If you don't want a character to have high STR, then focus all their gear and stats to higher MAG the best you can.

But I do see what you're saying. At the end of VII and VIII, you're practically just pummeling enemies and bosses with regular attacks that do 9999 damage.

Well, you see, that's your personal preference. Some people don't like using magic or summons. For me, I find summon magic to be a cheap way to get out of a tough fight without using your actual attacks. I know because I've done it in the past :P

I'm not sure how universal that really is without maxing (because exploiting elemental and magical weaknesses is important, in my experience), but as mentioned, you do have that choice. If you really wanted to, you could probably blast through much of a number of FF games using only the power of magic and summons.

A lot of RPGs these days can't balance offensive magic at all. One thing I've noticed about FF games is that in almost all of them, especially from VI onwards, magic is useful only at the beginning of the game, when your weapons aren't particularly good and your level is lower.

I'd attribute this mainky to the lack of weapons that boost magical strength in most games - you get maybe one or two staffs that boost INT or MAG or whatever they're calling it, but predominantly if you're getting a weapon upgrade, you're increasing your strength. Offensive magic is only really useful in the later FF games when you've got one of two things: an enemy that is immune/resistant to physical attacks, or you're at a low level and your physical attacks do close to bugger all.

Earlier FF games don't have this problem, because there are job classes that specialise in magic. Lack of character specialization in the games is the problem, really. Sure, some characters are better with magic than others, but when you can just smash your way through pretty much everything with physical attacks, there isn't much reason to use them for anything other than healing.

I agree. Or they are useful to enemies that have a weakness for a certain element. The only recent FF that allows you to pummel with Magic is probably X. But that's after you Max out some stats and abilities on your weapons. Which doesn't really happen till the end of the game.

Agreed

the weapons in the recent games have eclipsed the need for offensive magic.
The summons/espers have also been dumbed down, particularly in FFXII.

So the tendency is to try to use your weaponry to bash your opponent.

FF should be more than that.

Maybe they should go back to classes or jobs.I wouldn't mind it at all..:)

Strength upgrades are lovely :ahmed: I love noticing how much more I pwn after I get one of those upgrades. >_> You should see my giddiness while playing Final Ambrosey XIII. Lightning is awesome to play with..... Anyway, I don't really care for summons.... Like, at all. They are useless IMO. I also mostly like to use heal magic (when I have control of it >_>). So strength is everything for me.
