While we're short on information about the newly revealed Kingdom Hearts 3DS, it would seem it is not a port but a new game. However, it is not "Kingdom Hearts 3."

In an interview earlier today, we asked Nomura about the state of 3, and whether it would even be on a console, given the Kingdom Hearts series' recent stint on handhelds.

Nomura replied, "If there will be a Kingdom Hearts 3 in the future, it will probably be on a console platform, but the thing is that there is the idea and desire to create Kingdom Hearts 3, but the opportunity has not come yet."

"I'm under pressure from fans, from Disney, and from the internal Square Enix team as well, because they're all awaiting Kingdom Hearts 3. So I'm aware of it, and I don't hide my desire for one day creating a Kingdom Hearts 3 in the future."

As for the reason why the timing for developing Kingdom Hearts 3 has not come together, Nomura explains: "The problem is that the major staff that had contributed to the Kingdom Hearts development is very busy right now developing Final Fantasy Versus. And the new development team who was in charge of creating Birth By Sleep is also busy creating Kingdom Hearts 3DS. So, the timing is not here yet, but when the time has come, for sure we will try to elaborate the concept."

"The opportunity has not come yet"?

In order to free up enough staff to work on KHIII, why can't SE simply stop developing the lesser, spin-off games? I mean, I would rather they work on KHIII than the 3DS KH game (which itself will be a spinoff most likely).

The Versus situation I can sort of understand. I'd rather Versus take priority first, and I'm glad they seem to be doing that. I hope Versus is nearing the end so SE can finally start the game that everyone has been crying out for.

Here's a solution to your problem Nomura.

Stop making side-story games like BBS, Coded, etc--take those and shuv 'em up your ass and get to making a game that EVERYONE is waiting for. *headdesk*

Oof course it's not in development. Versus needs to be done very well and they can't divert time into KHIII. I can understand that, so this news doesn't faze me. I wonder why they can't just stop making more additions to the KH plot. We have enough info as it is, we really don't need more things to add to our many theories (not that I mind much :wacky:)

As long as they aren't dividing their time into making two incomplete games and are working on them seperately, then I am fine.

I've been waiting forever for KHIII foreveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer :gonk:
I agree with PB though-- quit with the side story games then maybe you could get KHIII started.

But, its good to hear that Final Fantasy Versus that they're working on it though 'cause a lot of people have also been wanting it.

It better come soon :rage:

I'm happy and a bit gutted really. On one hand I wish KHIII was already in development because it means you wouldn't have to wait that long. But on the other hand, I'd rather have Nomura focusing on each individual game to make it as good as possible without having it dampened simply because there's too much to do.

No matter what, these spin-offs are adding greatly to the story so I welcome them. I think I've learned how to be patient for games - I've waited for Starcraft II for the better part of 12 years! - so I'm not too bothered about waiting for KH3. It'll be worth the wait, too.

That's my feeling too. I already knew KH3 wasn't gonna be here so soon, and regardless of people's opinions about these so-called "spin-off" games they're still part of the story and aren't just gimmicky additions.

I think because there's no number attached to the game titles, people think they can dismiss them, but you really shouldn't D=

Anyways, after my initial disappointment in KH 3D being on a new system, I'm definitely eager to check it out now - along with Re:Coded ;D

Not to mention that we know Versus is in full swing and is another game I've been looking forward to as well xD

Sort of a disappointment cause I know that's added a few years to the wait time, but I'll give Dave credit for his point that the KH spin offs ain't half bad, with plot naturally being its strongest point. All the more reason to get excited over Versus now for me though, and good to see they got themselves organised with a working plan, and hopefully there won't be anything that'll delay progress on either of the two games. Anyway, roll on Versus. (y)
