Help Sphere Grid question

I was playing FFx yesterday again.

SPhereGrid for Tidus = Strength 255 max

is 255 really max? or if I add more strenght spheres on the spheregrid will Tidus's strength really increase even if it still show 255, or is 255 really the max?

I mean, if it's the max it goes then i'm sure that's the max it goes. I know there isn't any "levels" or anything like that but 99 is usually the max and even if you fight monster whatever you don't "level" up. So i'm guessing that even if you do that it won't work.
same with HP/MP etc.

255 is the max. If you want to boost it further, add the +% attributes to your equipment

bummer that means I could never defeat Dark Yojimbo on my own......
I have strength and defence all at 255 (most of my stats except evasion etc..)

man it pisses me off...

Of all the numbers, I dunno why it would be 255, it should be 999, or 300. But yesh, I maxed out my entire party, even HP 99999.

wow nice Im working on it, but at species conquest (iron clad who gives hp spheres) that takes too much time

did you defeat dark yojimbo? how many times did you battle him 4 or 5 times?
I cant beat him even though defence, magic defence and strenght is 255
