Right, well I'm on disc 2 when the Garden crashes into Fishermans Horizon. The problem is, in the CGI scene with the master fisherman it freezes half way through. Is there anyway to skipt this scene, or do I need a new disc. And yes, I have tried cleaning the disc T_T

As far as I know, there isn't really a way of skipping the cutscene.

I had a similar problem with the scene where they blast off to space, so I imagine this is a rather common problem.

It worked fine for me on the PS2, but if you are playing it on a PS2 and you encounter the problem there- you can try and see if it's the console's problem and not the disc's.

Sorry, I'm not really an expert on this.

I read this on an rom site when I was looking to download FFIX there were points where it would freeze so they said just as the cutscene try opening the top then close it again quickly, though that was for the PS1 I don't know about the PS2. I have no idea if it works, but it might be worth a try D:

Yeah, you can try ejecting the disc and then re-inserting it. It's worth a shot. Games usually pick back up when you reenter them.

Doesn't work for PS2.

Although....
*dusts of PS1*
I'll give it a try on that.

I had that problem a lot on my old copy of FF VII. Disk One was badly scratched and it would freeze during some cutscenes. I would usually take Disk One out and put Disk Two or Three in and the cutscene would continue. Once the scene was over, I'd put Disk One back in. I never tried it on FF VIII but it's worth a shot.

Maybe you could eject the disk and try pushing it straight back in? That might be the PS2 equivalent of opening the top and putting it back down. I'm running out of ideas! :gasp:

If all else fails- there is only one option left!

If you haven't already got the console, grab a PS3 and download FFVIII from PSN when it is available.

That is only if it's the last resort :gasp:

TILT THAT BEEZY! Seriously. I had that same problem with one of the cutscenes in one of my FF replays. I played around with the PS2 a bit, and vuala. I didn't get to see the cutscene, but I got the disc to skip it and continue. From then on, I was fine.

Clarify "I played around with my PS2"

I'm still trying to get it to work :gonk:

What kind of PS2 do you have? I know the slims/newer ones don't skip cutscenes when you open them, they just kinda pause them.. but I have a slim and an old one, and the old one, when you open the disc tray and close it, should skip the cutscene. That's how I got through a lot of FFIX, since my discs are in horrible condition, and I'd think it would work for FFVIII too. If you're using a PS1, I'm pretty sure, once again, the old PS1 will skip cutscenes while the new/little ones will just pause them. I'm not as sure about the PS1s, as I don't have an old one OR a new one here to check.

No need to buy a PS3, just buy a PSP. If you already own a PSP, just download the game for 10 bucks off of the PSN store.

Yes, you're right there.

I only overlooked it because most players may not have enough space on their regular PSPs to hold FFVIII (which takes up quite a lot of GB- how many I can't remember)- which is where a PSPGo may come in handy.

Then again- getting a PS3 rather than a PSPGo is a better use of money I'd imagine :monster:
