Nier Gestalt Crossing Ocean as “Nier,” Replicant Staying Behind

Since the first appearance of Nier Gestalt and Nier Replicant, there has been some confusion about what the two games are and how they relate to each other. Only Gestalt was playable at the Tokyo Game Show, but the trailers for Replicant and Gestalt were startlingly similar, save for the characters.

A PR representative from Square Enix has clarified the relationship between the games, and it turns out that the characters are the only significant difference. Replicant, with its younger boy protagonist trying to save his sister, is specifically designed to appeal to the Japanese audience. Gestalt features an older man trying to save his daughter. Since the two games are basically the same otherwise, only Nier Gestalt will come to North America sometime next year, for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, under the title of “Nier.”

Awwwwwww! Damn it, I wanted to play the pretty boy saving his sister (since I can't do that with Last Remnant)

Oh well, the father saving his daughter is still interesting. As long as the story and character are good, and the gameplay isn't too difficult, I can enjoy myself.

Interesting strategy from Square Enix.

Some won't be happy that the west won't be getting Nier Replicant, but nevertheless I have to say it's a rather smart move by the company.

Release a game with a manly man with muscles and a huge weapon for the western version because the west does not like the younger, scrawnier boy protagonist, right?

That'd explain the lack of "Replicant" or "Gestalt" on the front cover earlier in the week. Quite interesting although I personally think that what the characters look like doesn't really matter that much to Western gamers

As long as Nier is coming out here im happy. It looks great. Not much difference between the 2 anyway. So Replicant is japan only and Gestalt is NA only right? The game looks fucking intense!

Yeah, Japan has Replicant and everywhere else has Gestalt by the sounds of it. I think it was just mistaken at one point that all PS3 owners got Replicant and all 360 owners got Gestalt
