If any of the Final Fantasy games were movies:

- Would they end up great? Or even good? Hopefully considering that they don't get the shitty fate of all other video game movies and their terrible directors and such (...UWE BOLL...).

- Would the script and plot translate well? As in would the earlier games without voices work also? Would the script work in Hollywood?

- Which game would be the best movie? Personally, I think FFX.

- Should they ever be made? And what if it had a great cast and staff and had great potential? Would you still say no?

- Should it be with real actors, or only graphics a la Advent Children?

- Anything else?

I think FFVI would be a great movie Because of the character Depth And the Amazing story I could Just imagine it as a movie. Keep the Orginal Music As well That would Be Epic.

i Think FFVI would be good With Real Actors Rather then graphics Like advent children As I'd love to see Actors play out the Roles as the characters it would be interesting Like Kefka You would Need an Amazing actor to play a character Like Him.

i think FFVIII would make a great movie. it's got the romance. the international intrigue. the time travel. lol. good stuff.

as far as live action vs. cg, i'd say either could be good. it all depends on the writing, and the special effects. if they can do the special effects with live action without making it look cheesy, then it'd work. cg just makes special effects easier and make more sense with what final fantasy does.

i think the biggest problem with final fantasy movies is the magic. i love the magic, and i realize it's an integral part to the FF universe. but the general public won't. and that's why i think an FF movie wouldn't do so hot, unless it was straight to dvd like advent children.

My opinion: It should never happen. That is, video games shouldn't be made into movies.

From what I can tell, there are three reasons video game movies do terribly.

1. Terrible actors/directors/etc: This should be rather obvious, movies often fail to portray the characters and scenarios the way they were portrayed in the game they came from. It's possible to get around this, but unlikely since every fan of the game will have a different opinion as to how it should be done.

2. Lack of connection: Video games thrive by giving the player control, connecting them to the playable characters, often times they feel like they are experiencing the events of the game. Movies give the viewers absolutely zero control, and gamers end up feeling disconnected from their favorite characters. There's no way to avoid this problem short of making the movie into a game.

3. Lack of content: A game that lasts less than five hours is generally a terrible game that lacks enough content. A two and a half hour movie on the other hand is seen as rather long. Games are long, and good ones are packed with content from beginning to end. When a game movie is made the director usually condenses all of the content, altering or cutting out tons of material, often making it nothing like it's source material. The only way to avoid this is to extend the movie into multiple movies, but there's just never enough money to do something like that for a game.

Really, a wise person would just choose to make a book based on a game, it allows all of the content (at low costs), it eliminates actors, and it allows the reader to use his or her imagination (which re-establishes their connection with the characters).

I don't think any Final Fantasy games should be adapted into a movie, they'd have to cut out so much of the game to make it into a movie, and you'd lose so much. You wouldn't have the connection with the characters you have with the video game, all the other characters would have seriously small amounts of screen time in favour of the main characters - example, if FFX was adapted, Yuna, Tidus and Auron would have far more screen time than Lulu, Wakka, etc. And it just bastardizes the story x_x

Although, if a FF game was to be adapted into a movie, I'd prefer it was FFI or FFIII, as a movie would give the lifeless characters a personality, and would probably transfer quite well to a movie. It would have to be in CGI too, so we can have things like moogles, chocobos, and Marlboros, etc.

I dunno'... I see all your points, everyone. It's just that the image of Tidus or Cloud or Zidane or someone, fighting one the classic villains on a big ass widescreen with great special effects... And bleh. I dunno'. Just seemed it would be incredible. But there are so many things to consider, as you all pointed out.

If i wanted a Final Fantasy game to become a movie, i would definitely want Final Fantasy Tactics to become one. Its got an amazing story and it would be a good story for the movies with all the interesting things that happen in the plot. I really think that the plot would translate well to a movie. Thinking about the storyline all that would change is the fights, where you can just see a different version. If they were to make this a movie, i couldn't stand a real actor's cast. It would definitely have to be animated like Advent Children.

They'd end up quite awful in my opinion, take AC and TSW as an example, AC was alright at best.
- Would the script and plot translate well? As in would the earlier games without voices work also? Would the script work in Hollywood?
Nope, chanes are they'd edit the script quite a lot as chances are you're gonna get rid of most NPCs which alone would take away a fair bit of the script...and a film without voices it like trying to make an icecube in a desert >.>
- Which game would be the best movie? Personally, I think FFX.
FFXII or FFT:WoTL mainly because they both have the war type theme going on :-)

I wouldn't want them to be made into movies, SE haven't done all that well with past films, TSW was pretty awful and Advent Children was alright but it wasn't that good, therefore, it just shows their strength doesn't lie in making films. If I knew SE had the potential and a great cast and great staff then I'd say yes, even though I do think they have a great cast and staff for their games, they haven't mastered making films.

Graphics only. See the failure of a DBZ film with real actors to show would an FF with real actors could be like.

- Anything else?
No. :awesome:

Final Fantasy XII would do okay as a movie, it has that Troy/ Lord of the Rings War type of Feeling.

And the whole flying airships and such should please Star War fans and maybe grow into more of a fanbase. So yeah a FF 12 movie would be cool.

But as people have said above.

Don't think that Final Fantasy movies turn out well. Spirits within did terribly at the box office and Advent Children was ... okay-ish....

But not great XD

Life Action versus CGI like AC - CGI. Most live action anime/game movies kind of fail *coughDragonBallEvolutioncough*, and AC was just.. pretty. <3
FFX should be made into a movie. Seriously. o__o; If they kept the original voices. :-)

Personally, Final Fantasy games should not really be transformed into movies because of the various optional things that many don't really do or know about for that matter and there is the matter of the random battles so making it a movie would make the plot a lot more confusing due to that we still need to train and stuff not like Resident Evil and etc. and other the fact that some people don't really win all their battles so it would really make a bad movie

But if I was going to make a movie on one ofthem it would be FF12

I wouldn't mind any of them as movies so long as they were animated, I know you'd lose a fair bit, but a lot of the gaming you do is training anyway, put all the cut scenes dialogue together and you should be able to hash something pretty good together...or maybe books....books would be epic

Nah you couldnt make them movies. Theres waaaaay to much to include that the movie would end up being like 40 hours long. Most of the appeal comes from playing through the storyline, it wouldnt be the same if they were a movies. I agree that books would probadly be a better idea as you can involve a hell of a lot more into them.

If they were movies, I'd be slightly horrified. I'm sure there'd be seizures. Here'd be the results.

FF1 - People are falling asleep.
FF2 - People are rolling their eyes.
FF3 - They're doing both.
FF4 - This might be okay.
FF5 - Audience is throwing popcorn.
FF6 - Okay, this would probably be a good movie.
FF7 - The kids are cheering, everyone else is playing cards and sipping Sprite, bored out of their mind.
FF8 - The audience is tearing up the movie screen with a huge pitchfork. The theater is now on fire.
FF9 - People are asleep again, bored with the old cliches.
FF10 - Anyone who doesn't have their hand in their pants is asleep.
FF11 - The theater has been sued for making an MMO.
FF12 - (see FF10).

Yeah, no hate. I'm just messing around. I like most of these games. They'd just be funny to see as movies.

Haha, I agree with SABR. x'D

Besides, there's so much in a FF game, that I really doubt a movie could recreate the experience. Since a movie is so limited in time, I can bet somethings would have to be left out; and that would leave some fans displeased. Maybe, just maybe, a sequel or prequel could be pulled off for some of the games, but Iunno how well that would work out. =/

I think it would be rather awful. The Final Fantasy games are traditionally very long games and very in depth. It would be impossible to stuff it all into an hour and a half movie and expect it to be good. Also, I think the only game that would remotely come to close to being a good movie is Final Fantasy X. It was shorter than the other games and already more movie-like than the others.

i don't care what any1 else thinks but FFVIII wud make the best file ever, just because of the lionheart and the ragnarok. they shud make it CGI not real ppl

I for one would like to see a 3d version of FF that encompassed all the games and even spinoffs [KH]

It would translate well in my opinion. I can see Sephy just taking out Barret in the beginning of the movie and Lulu and beating the crap Yuna for "Being STUPID" LoL...

I personally would not like to see any FF game made into a movie because I don't think it really works, either from a game to a movie, or for a movie to a game.

Movies from games tend to just be a new story, with some new obstacle to overcome. Arguably, the best asset of the FF series is the plot, so I'd rather not see someone try to tell the story again, or make some completely new story, which in all likelihood will contradict the original.

Books to movies and vice-versa seem to work ok, but when a concept crosses the movie-game line, it usually needs to be shoehorned into it's new format. Games based on movies are notoriously bad, and movies based on games have an even worse reputation.

Leave well alone, in my opinion.
