Final Fantasy Tournament of arms

Years ago on another Final Fantasy board I used to frequent, one of the moderators ran a Final Fantasy of arms where he'd pit FF characters against each other in a poll, members would vote for the one they believed would win the fight, and the winner would advance to the next round of the tourney. It was good fun and lead to some interesting discussions, so if there's any interest in it, I'd like to try and run one around here


So would anyone be interested, and how many fighters should I include? 32 seems like a reasonable number, but I'm tempted to go with 64 instead. I'd rather not leave anyone's favourite characters out.

I was planning on including the main cast (and main villains) from FF 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12, which would give me 53 characters. I'd post this roster for people to see and let everyone else suggest characters they'd like to see in the tournament on a "wild card". If there's a cast of characters people would rather see in the tournament than those I picked, say that people would rather have the Tactics cast than the FF4 cast, I'll be happy to oblige. Once I have the final roster, I will divide the characters into a favourite and an underdog bracket, and create the initial pairings from those. Just to avoid any Squall vs. Sephiroth bouts in the first round.

That's a good list. I'd say its a bit biased on the good side though. And also missing FF 1,2,5 characters.

Maybe fill out the remaining numbers with villains, even obscure ones.

But thats just some suggestions, if you were to have more suggestions from other people, if you were to choose like that, then go with the majority etc.

throw in the turks to the FFVII roster, and also, add in Jecht to the FFX roster.

these would make good additions as many people love the turks, and Jecht is a massive part of the FFX storyline

Suggestions are duly noted. I left out Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 5 on purpose. With Final Fantasy 5's job system, it would be hard to atribute specific combat abilities to each character, so I don't think they would fit in well in a tournament like this. 1 and 2 I just figured would be less popular than the later installments, so I gave them the axe.

I'll add her to the list of wildcard suggestions and if enough people want her in, then she's in I will put the list of prospective wildcard fighters in my opening post along with the rest of the roster and update as I go. Oh and even if the characters you want to see in the tournament has already been added to the list, please mention them in a post anyway. The most popular ones will be the one to get the wildcards.
