Hey, anyone here a fan of Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X? I've been a fan since I was 12. This was one of the first anime that I watched at the time. I really loved the whole thing, about Kenshin and so on. I thought that this anime was cool. Then they(the studio that made the Rurouni Kenshin anime version) started adding those fillers (which were a little OK) after the Kyoto Arc, instead of the original one in the manga. They have never fitted the last arc of the manga into the anime! That frustrated me, honestly. Especially since the last arc was the most important one of them all and since it reveals much of Kenshin's past. So I read the manga up till the end and it was awesome. I know they made OVA's to make up for not making the last arc in the anime, but that was tampered with as well. The part about Tomoe was correct, yet, I coudn't help getting a dull feeling seeing the first OVA plus, the art was just different, though this OVA was quite OK,really...the second OVA was about Kaoru and Kenshin and the final arc which was never fitted into the anime. While they got some parts right about the OVA, the rest was just, totally tampered with. The art again, was different, and we couldn't get that same recognizable feeling when watching the characters. Also, they changed many parts of the story, and even gave a completely different ending that Nobuhiro Watsuki (the manga artist) himself did not agree upon. But then again, they made the anime very enjoyable and memorable, so I am still thankful. This anime is supposed to be REALLY famous among boys and even girls. Any thoughts on this anime?

I used to love this anime. The Kyoto arc was superb; but after that, the show started to get a little dull. I never got round to seeing the Samurai X OVA's; I've seen bits and pieces of them, but that was before I watched the main Rurouni Kenshin series, so it didn't really make sense to me.

But Rurouni Kenshin was a great show.

Well, in my opinion, it's better to read the manga till the end. Have you read it till the end? It was awesome. The ending was good and not overdone, and it was just good. The OVA's have a seriously different mood. They even changed a lot of the storyline. Right after the Kyoto Arc, it was just fillers...

Nuh I never bothered reading the Manga, due to my own laziness. I couldn't really be stuffed reading what I had already watched and I couldn't be bothered going to the trouble of obtaining it either...I'm pretty lazy like that :monster:

A lot of people have recommended the Manga to me; but as I said I pretty lazy. Generally I only read manga if it hasn't been made into an anime.

I'm a huge fan of this anime! I finished the whole Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X series. I have also watched the two OVAs which are the "Trust and Betrayal" and the "Reflection". I learned a lot about Kenshin, Saito, Shishio and the thing about Kenshin's "X" scar in Trust and Betrayal. The Reflection OVA was sad and I really think that it fits the last "chapter" of Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X. I really think that Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin is the best samurai related anime!

Cool. I really liked Rurouni Kenshin. Nowadays, it's alittle hard to find an anime so in - depth and not stereotypical. Same goes to the characters, And yeah, Kenshin's 'X' scar wasn't just a battle scar, it had many meanings. I loved the anime, as I watched it when I was a kid, and it was seriously memorable. Did you read the manga? The true storyline is there. The "Reflections" ending is TOTALLY different than the manga. Even the manga artist himself didn't like it. Kenshin didn't die. He did (spoiler) marry Kaoru, and found peace and contentment with her. The ending of the manga was happy and good and was not depressing. I think that any anime should be at least a little true to the manga and I say I like the manga ending of Rurouni Kenshin. It was really nice, and there was humour, action, and a good storyline and all. If anyone read the manga, the last arc was taken out and crammed into Reflections, and even there the plot was changed a lot. Reflections was sad and alright, but honestly, a little depressing. And yeah, I agree with you when you say that Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X is the best samurai related anime out there. It's enormously popular and has drawn a huge crowd of boys and even girls to love Rurouni Kenshin. Again, best to read the manga!

I loved watching the Rurouni Kenshin anime, but I was never too fond of the fillers they added onto the anime. I prefer reading the manga and watching the OVAs. My favorite being Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal. I honestly became more interested in Kenshin's past rather than how he was when the anime/manga started. His past stories seemed to carry on a darker tone, which is something I appreciate since I love watching stuff with really dark themes.

I won't call myself a "fan", but I like it. The anime was great at the beginning.
The fillers were a little more boring, but overall the anime was very good.

The manga on the other hand was great from the beginning to the very end.
As I saw the OVAs I thought the after the Kyoto arc, the story will be boring and forced. But I as I read the manga, I realized that the Kyoto Arc isn't the only good part of the Rurouni Kenshin. I liked how Kenshin's past was revealed, as well as some more cool things.

The ending somehow really felt like "completed" and there are no many series with an ending which don't make you think about a sequal.
Of course that it is always possible to think of a sequal, but it can no longer focus on Kenshin as his story was cleared in any possible way.

I agree completely!

That's how I feel too! I never knew that there was a final arc that was never animated until I read the manga. The manga was really great, and I felt contented and satisfied with the ending. The anime on the other hand was very good, but only till the end of the Kyoto Arc, because the weird fillers they added after that spoiled the storyline and what would have been an excellent anime than it was already.

The last arc of the manga was the most crucial ending, and probably one of the best; it's a pity that some people aren't even aware of the true ending, and think that Rurouni Kenshin is quite dull because of the fillers (though there are a huge number of fans). I wasn't honestly a fan of the Rurouni Kenhin OVA, Reflections, because at any rate that isn't the true ending, plus it was very dull and did not have the same quality the manga had.

And me too! I loved that we finally get to know about Kenshin's past, which made the story more better and more memorable, it really fits with the storyline.

And yes again, no matter how much I love Rurouni Kenshin, a sequel would be ruining the already nostalgic effect the ending had. Kenshin's story is settled and finally after all those years of suffering, he found true happiness. That was what Watsuki(the manga artist) was trying to convey.

i gave up on the anime. I just jumped to the manga. a whole lot better as there is no fillers. The ending was good too as it wraps up everything pretty nicely.

Well, to be completely honest, I didn't give up on the anime totally, but I did prefer the manga's storyline. The fillers were irritating, though. Loved the ending too~
