What are Square-Enix Doing?

Not necessarily. I don't mind spin-offs as long as it was written by the original creators. If they weren't, like I said before, I just see it as a fanfiction.

Now I didn't say I myself was disappointed with spin-offs. What I've heard from Square fans say (that I've talked to) have said that they're sick of seeing VII getting milk, dislike spin-offs etc. Actually, I was quite satisfied with Crisis Core. So no, I'm rather opened to spin-offs but I rather see Square Enix move on to something more original.

It is. I don't really blame them for milking VII so much. It has brought them a new fan base and cash, so it is a win-win situation. After a while you can only milk so much.

Will you make your mind up???? you completely contradicted yourself! see below...

Attracting new fans? The only time I saw FFVII gain new fans was through the release of Advent Children. That was because it attracted many anime fans since I was talked about among other anime-JRPG fans.

Crisis Core was not a welcoming game either. To really understand Crisis Core you need to have played FFVII first.

I wouldn't jump into conclusions that FFVII will be the fastest selling game. I highly doubt it considering that many gamers are done with JRPGs.

She's talking about the faggotry that is advent children drawing in a new fanbase of weaboos and retards who have never played the original game/won't play it because its got lego graphics. :neomon:

In a way, yes. I feel like if they were to add better graphics, we would have a chance to see a lot more things than we do now.

Think of it as switching from regular television, to HDTV. Think of how much you miss out on when you aren't watching HD. Or, for those who need prescription glasses and/or Contacts, think of when you first put on those glasses or contacts. The world came to life and everything became more clear.

THAT is why I want a FFVII remake. For us fans who have been with the game since day one, we have already played the game using those graphics and back then we didn't mind it. However, I want people of this era to have a chance to play the game, with the same graphics that they are used to now.

Think of all the things we missed with FFVII. We didn't get to see how the characters actually looked, how all of the bosses actually looked. There were parts that weren't even clear enough to figure out what it was.

The reason I only want better graphics, is because I don't want them to change FFVII too much. I think the game is perfect the way it is, except for the graphics. If I had to rate it on a serious scale of 1-10, I would give it a 9.5, deducting that .5 for the lack of outstanding graphics. If they were to remake the game, same storyline same battle system, but added some great graphics to go along with it, I would easily give it a 10 out of 10. Just my thoughts though. :)

You strike a good point. It would be nice to see FF VII and actually see the emotions on the characters faces and see a good vision on what Junon or Gongaga could look like.
When was playing FF VII for the first time, when Aeris died and after Tifa brushed through her hair, thought that Tifa got up. Laughed and ran away by laughing. o_O

But kind of got the idea that she was supposed to be crying, and holding back her tears. But almost got the wrong idea, because the old graphics didn't make Tifa's sad emotions clear enough and missed out. The FF VII graphics were amazing back in the day, but now they need to be upgraded to have that amazing feeling again.

But just think that there is more than just graphics, listening to the Jenova remake song from Advent Children and just imagining how amazing it could be to face the Jenova boss on the Junon boat with music, like this.

Also having voice-actors that have a crisp sounding voice and play the right emotions and don't sound like a bad lack of actors early 90's anime.. then ..yeah..

Just think that there is more to a FF VII remake that making a touch up and making it look shiny :3

Though do worried if SE does something dumb, to match up with the FF VII compilation then won't be too happy about it, and despite the lack of graphics the main original game is fine, was just thinking-why risk ruining a original just for things to look less lego ? When we have our imaginations, thoughts, ideas and memories.. ?

If people can't play FF VII because of graphics, then build a bridge and get over it.
Because FF VII is still a amazing game even if Cloud lacks a nose and fingers XD.

Relax, no need to be nitpicky about this. ;) As L stated, she was merely pointing out that in the end, Advent Children did bring in new fanbase (people who has never even heard or played Final Fantasy VII and refuse to play it due to how old the game is, but instantly loved AC as soon as they laid eyes on the eye-catching graphics). I don't really see the contradiction there to be honest. Just stating her opinions.

I know a lot of people who loves AC so much, but when I suggest that they should play FFVII itself, they take a look at the graphics and I can almost here them screaming, "Eww!" Yeah sure that annoys me because I want them to play the game, damnit! xDD They're clearly a fan of AC, but not the game itself. So kudos to those who actually takes the time to play the game, as well as the spinoffs if they really want more entertainment branching off from FFVII and enjoy the new characters presented. As some here pointed out, there's nothing really wrong with that either, but personally, I kinda don't see the connection of these new storylines produced in spinoffs from the game itself. Sure the storyline seem to fit together, but that's just the thing - they try to make it fit, but was that really intended in the original story? I doubt it. It certainly wasn't mentioned. So my stance on this is that with a game as complex as FF7, I tend to just stick to the original storyline and ignore the spinoffs. Sure it's still nice to see what they are able to come up with, but ultimately, what they showed me in the game is what's important to me. And that is that. =] That's just my preference, but I'll respect those who has different opinions on the matter.

I love all the FF games (up until X but IX was the last FF game i thoroughly enjoyed), but i agree with the original poster. I wish things would go back to how it used to be rather than all this change because i just can't enjoy the games like i used to.

I'm iffy on it. I love my classics, and I'm even willing to go more back in time and indulge in the ones before FFVII, but I'm also looking forward to the new releases. I must be an openminded FF player, just going with the flow. I kind of saw a pattern forming around the X, X-2 and XII period. It was like trial&improvement.

FFX - Awesome story, classic gameplay, but might of been eager to expand
FFX-2 - Story was already set, being a sequel. Chance to cheekily play around with gameplay.
FFXII - New style of gameplay but lacked story&character development.
FFXIII (hopefully) - Excellent gameplay & excellent story&character development.

And I say that not out of the hype, it just seems logical. You've got the gameplay in the bag, now it's just thinking of an amazing storyline to compliment it.
But, I don't think they should go back in time. With the market today, they are putting up against fast-paced, good on the eyes games. Gone were the days of a fulfilling storyline, gamers now-a-days are hungry for the all-round game. I think Lost Odyssey may be the only next-gen JRPG that had an amazing story and the gameplay just sufficed enough. I think SE would really have to raise a bar if they tried to release a turn-based game now. It just seems the game market has suprassed that.

But of course, if it's not broke, don't fix it. :-)

Really shocked and angry about FF XIV but think that SE is trying to expand the series into people with many different tastes and try and really please everybody.

Though can't lie here and say really looking forward to FF XIII and FF XIV as much as would be going back into time and playing games that came out a long, long time ago.

~~ Though lets look at the future ~~
FF X- Great amazing game, with a magical storyline.
FF XI- SE just lost all of their cash on Spirits Within, they needed to do something...
FF XIII- A change to stop to hopefully boredom so we didn't get tried of the same ?
FF XIII- Going back to the original theme
FF XIV- ... What the ?

~~~~ And the past ~~~
FF VI- A amazing game on the SNES that was enjoyed by many fans. Even Today.
FF VII- A Worldwide best- seller that changed the hearts of millions
FF VIII- Split in fanbase. Liked by same. Hated by others. It was change and a risk just like the future FF XII.
FF IX- Overshadowed by uniqueness and misunderstood expect for a few hardcore fans.
Though lets look even further back in the past ~~
FF V- A very popular and well-adored in Japan. But SE refused to sell it to Americans to due the high increase in difficulty. But in it's hometown the game did well.
FF IV- The game that pushed the SNES to it's limits and was loved by many Americans and Japanese players of young and old. Even Today with it's update.
FF III- Heard that this game was one of Japan's favourite Final Fantasies.
FF II- Caught the case of a bad-luck for a sequel. It didn't do so well, but many copies were brought of the shelf due to the original's earlier success.
FF I- The Game that started it all, and did so well in selling copies that it brought Squaresoft out of it's slump in bankruptcy.
It just seems like there was something special about the past because SquareSoft ( back then ) had a mission. They had a mission to never again head into bankruptcy and defeat their Enix rivals who were blasting out very popular Dragonquest games and Star Ocean. The Final Fantasy series were like ''second place '' in Japan. And SE had desire to make their desire of creating a worldwide RPG series was their goal.
FF VI and FF VII. Both of them are deemed the ''Best in the series ''. Look at them both.
They showed effort. FF VI blasted out the best musical tones Squaresoft could pull.
Not to mention they tried to squeeze in many beloved characters and a great storyline. FF VII showed that us. SE wanted us to enjoy the series for a even longer period of time. With modern graphics and a more mature storyline than before.
But FF VII dropped the crystals that was loved so much in the past. It dropped the character class, and the usual storyline that was based upon the Elemental crystals.
It had change but it was still lovable and liked upon by many fans, because it still had the ''Final Fantasy magic '' that made the games before FF VII so darn great.
Magic can't last for long and good things can't stay forever. Magic in something can grow out. Think that SE has been through alot of events that could of damaged the magic. Failing to complete a enjoyable by fans Final Fantasy movie can show that pain. With a change in company and a change in staff, and loss of money. Think that SE is trying, anything that they are possibly can to re-gain the magic by trying to please all fans by worldwide. Though usually trying to please everybody is the right direction on the road to failure.
Though positive about the future of the Final Fantasy series. That Final Fantasy XIII is going to be a great collection and will re-collect the *spark * and the trust between company and fans. While FF XIV may not be pleasing everybody, positive that those who enjoy MMO games, will enjoy the experience of XIV. And that XV will be a game
that would be one to really look forward towards, and enjoyed for many years.
^-^
