I When FF XI first came out, I said HELL NO! I was sooo pissed... I mean a FF MMORPG wasn't a bad Idea, but why take the 11th volume number of the series? Couldn't they have made it a spin off title like Final Fantasy: New World or Final Fantasy: Online or Final Fantasy: Suckfest. Why do it at all Square? That's not what you're known for, you're known for your console based, amazing stories, characters, battle system, music and innovation. I guess I just don't understand the reasoning behind it. Now I have never played the game, and probably never will, and I'm not even saying that it's bad, but I know it doesn't stack up to WOW, and how much money is Square-Enix actually making from this escapade?

Well, let me get to the point... I have a question.

Why Play Final Fantasy XI? I want to know, really why people play it. Give me some background info, something. maybe I will pick it up and give it a shot If I hear good things. I was just so disappointed when it was released, I couldn't find it in myself to pay for the game as well as the HDD for the PS2.

Thanks.

Hmmm let me start people play this game because they want too!!! Oh and it is an online game and its fun if you play with some friends. I played this already but stopped. Well its actually worth a try if you want to play. Its your life you choose what you want to play. Although people still play this game. Its actually a good game and I think you will like it and probably get bored. Well if you like never ending games this is the game for you.

My advice to you, if you dislike the idea of the game so much, is not to play it.

Other people, however do play it. I myself used to play it, though never a lot, and it is actually quite fun.

Yeah, it isn't a big story with characters but it gives you the chance to LIVE in an FF world. Make your own story.

There is an underlying story behind FF11 though, main quest and stuff to take. But above all you get a feeling of culture and a place you belong to in the different nations you can choose to live.

Music isn't half bad either!

I like Final Fantasy XI but its just like not a real Final Fantasy game to me its all just some online fun. Nothing like the other Final Fantasy's but its still good but the other Final Fantasy's in my opinion are better.

FFXI is all of those things plus the great community.
Thats why I play.

Simple reasons to play the game :)
I for once can't afford to play it (Due to the fact that i'm a cheap ba****d and too lazy to get along with all the credit card s***) but i surely would LOVE to.

It has the storyline you 're craving for, the good music, the absolutely ridiculusly (like all MMO's) huge world and as Sugosuke says (And why not believe him? He knows it first hand) a great community wich i'm certainly sure that is ;)
And apart from that...

You 're going to play WoW cause you dig all the (So chewed over and over again) Dn'D Thematology or cause people are making it popular?
I for once would go with my thoughts and choose FFXI Online over and over again against WoW.

But opinions differ my friend :)

No man, I don't even play WoW... I'm just not a huge fan of MMORPG's that's probably why I was so upset in the first place, when the game was released as exactly that, but hearing all these things, I might just give it a shot.

Well let me start off by saying this game is still very very very popular among the RPG environment. It has lasted near half a decade now and I don't believe it's going to lose it's popularity any time soon. Square makes more money on this game than any RPG it has created previously, so you thank this game for crappy games like FFXII. This game funds other games in the the research and developement department. SE keeps coming out with updates every few months for this game including the new lvl sync system (brilliant if you ask me) and the new jobs and such.

I would have to say the only downsides of this game are the engine it is run on and the graphic art. Primarily they are still the same as the day they were created so you can't ask for much more unless they were to bring servers down for 2 weeks. Also I think they are traditionalists because they like so many other rpgs never waiver on the graphics.

The music can be repetitive but so can any FF music, at least it isn't midi format.

My advise would be.. if you do not like playing difficult online rpgs, stay away from this game. It is very challenging as opposed to WoW. WoW caters to the kiddos with every update, it doesn't require much skill to get your character to 70 or now 80 these days and to do end game content. Games are just lacking in the difficulty department these days.

So your choice, also as an added bonus, it is slow at first so I recommend getting into this game with a real life friend or three..

Cheers.

Its a hard nock game for us kids

Well I think they made the title final fantasy 11 to merge people towards ff12. I don't know cause 12 did come out after and they might not have known, but I think 12 is a lot like (just faster) then 11 battle wise. Sure this game takes a lot of time, I had like over 150 hours in just one (free trial) month of playing. It becomes addictive. Plus I was only level 34 or 35 monk and that was my highest level.

I did meet a friend named Exno and he logged on and we made parties everyday. We both got the game on Xmas. He lived in england though and I'm from the USA. Still we got along and shared discoveries.

I never purchased the game myself but I have played it at friends places and it is quite fun. the community I agree is one of the cool parts. Sorry to go off topic quick but for you gaming fanatics that like free things you might be interested in what the marketing company I am with and Mountain Dew teamed up to do to give away some cool free gaming gear here: http://tinyurl.com/btrcgl. Back on topic now--Final fantasy is a classic saga of games and anything they put out should be given a chance before talking bad about it.
