Eating Before Sleep Can Cause Some Scary-Arse Nightmares

Yeah this used to happen to me but now it does not only if I eat heavily before sleep which I did and I had a nightmare about some ghosts of the fff members. The souls were like will kill you and I said noooo and the last thing I saw was a sword but I quickly woke up.

Usually it's eating meat before bed that causes the worst nightmares.
I remember eating a small slice of pork and then going to bed. Then I had a dream of the grim reaper chasing me and trying to kill me with an axe. Fortunetly I have mastered the ability to control my own dreams (that is possible!). I turned into a bird and flew away from it.

Coming to think about it, I have experienced pain in a dream before.. Well not heavy pain, but one that felt like dying.
Hard to explain.
I was at some sick and twisted themepark and there was a rollercoaster full of people. We were all strapped in, but our hands were free. We had to (while the roller coaster was zooming about) press the button in front of us as soon as we heard a beep. The last one to do so would die. :O I became one of those victims in a few rounds and I must say the experience I felt was not pleasant. It felt like all my blood was draining from my body. It really honestly felt like dying.

Whether I had a meal or not before that dream I am unsure, but yeah... Pain and bad feelings and experiences can occur in dreams to people.

I have never felt pain myself but I have felt other sensations like when I kiss in a dream I actually feel it. When I cry I feel that my cheeks are wet. If I fly I can feel the force of the gravity and the wind in my face. I can't remeber a dream of me feeling pain.

I have never gotten a nightmare if I eat right before I go to bed. I always eat right before I go to bed because it actually helps me sleep. I need to have something in my stomach when I lay in my bed at night.

I don't really know if eating before bed affects my sleep at all. I dont even have scary dreams after watching a scary movie. I don't even remember the last time I had a scary dream. I have had weird dreams before, but thats only when I'm so exhausted so I'm guessing it depends on the person.

When I ate before bed I had no nightmares. But Somtimes I may when I dont eat before bed lol :). I got a question. When you were a baby do you know if you get nightmares? I don't know because I don't remember my childhood.

Yes, babies do not dream of pink bunnies. They have extreme dreams of falling, being killed, darkness, demons etc. That's because they are rapidly growing and their minds cannot rest.
When I was a baby (I still remember and it's hard to forget.) I used to have the same dream every night. It's always dark and a demon is approaching me from under the bed. I always awoke when it got near me. Then, when I was about 6 I had a dream of an angel and since then I had no night mares.

Teenagers often get erotic dreams. That is what I'm currently experiencing -__-

But I like it.

The human mind has the ability to create pain so it is completely mental pain. Also if you have a scary dream the best thing to do is to try and force it to something you like alot by basically thinking of it. It will make your nightmare become a lot less scary. After you master using that then you can easily manipulate your dreams any way you see fit.

Indeed, and I am glad the I mastered this myself. I love to morph into something in the dream. I usually become a mermaid or a bird :P

It's weird; in my waking life, I'd say I'm pretty damn horney, but I've only had one erotic dream -- and it wasn't even that good, really.

I have felt realistic pain in some of my dreams. In one of my dreams, I fell, causing me to scratch up my knees. I actually felt the pain. I've also woken up with tears on my face before.

When I was around 7 years old, I kept having this nightmare where my father would drag me into my building's garage, and push me into this pit that led to a dark sewer with aligators. It was pretty scary.

I can't control my dreams very well. Dreams that can be controlled are called lucid dreams.

Really? That's rather interesting. I normally do tend to "control" my dreams, if something bad's happening, or something I don't want to happen..I like change my dream. I haven't had a nightmare for years, and I have eaten before I sleep before.

But I can't honestly remember ever having a nightmare...I think I've had one ever. The majority of my dreams are rather boring, although pretty violent, although only violent towards people I dislike. So I probably have a violent subconscious.

I attribute my lack of nightmares to my dream catcher though. It's pretty AND useful!

lol
You do know that your subconscious is suppose to act opposite to how you really are right?
Now the last time I had a nightmare was a couple of months ago but due to the fact I love food it became delicious! =)

I wish I could do this. I lose control in my dreams. I've literally had dreams that have gone on so long and were so vivid that when I woke I was confused about where I was.

I remember I had one dream where I was a merchant traveling along in the desert when our convoy could see a sand storm kicking up in the distance. We took shelter in this huge stone tower that was nearby and intended to stay until the storm died down. It never left though and the whole dream was about my life trying to survive in that tower. I remember getting married and raising crops with water we found in an underground well. When I woke up I had no idea where I was... it scared the living daylights out of me. I probably have a dream that vivid once a month or so.

I epic fail at this, and have done through most of my life. I'd sometimes have semi-lucid dreams in which I am aware of my dreaming status and try to affect the outcomes, but for me I always ended up going in a circle. My mind I swear must be semi-autistic or at least obsessive compulsive, and I'd basically end up picking up the same item again and again again, for AGES.

Say if I was being chased by a giant ugly bear monster that dribbled out slime, I'd run away, but then my mind would basically tell me that I was wrong, and rewind me back, then I'd run away again. Crazy. I never quite could get away! I suck at controlling my own dreams as I never seem to get anywhere with them. It loops and loops until I wake.

I had a frosting covered macadamia nut last night, and dreamnt I was being chased by a T-rex. D;

The only real wack dreams I've had at night have always come when I'm sleeping in a new place for the first time ever.

I've moved houses I think 3 times in my life, and the first night in the new place I always have the same dream over and over again. It's one of those really hard to explain dreams, but when i have it, I recognize it right away.

It usually involves a falling refrigerator though...

When I eat loads I get more sleep and better dreams. That's pretty weird. o_O

Oh, gawd, I had a really bad dream last night... I dreamt that my brother was staying at our old house, in which he was about to get kicked out of, and since my brother has no job, he needs someone to support him. My father didn't take him to his house, and my mother was too preoccupied with mine and her lives. I would visit him every day by walking to the house he was in and by calling him on the telephone, and I saw that he was starving and dying. Every five minutes in the dream world I would cry uncontrolably no matter how hard I tried to stop it, and felt my depression coming back at full force. It was one of those dreams where you wake up and kiss the freaking ground. I also had some other weired dreams that night... I dunno, maybe it was because I ate lots of cereal before bed...

I ran across this forum while searching about food and nightmares, and had to post because I was so caught up in reading all of the posts here.

I started searching because last night, I had the scariest nightmare I've had in my life. I normally only have dreams, and what I've considered nightmares I've always been able to "manipulate," because I usually realize I'm dreaming halfway through or so. Once I'm "up," I'm OK and sometimes, somehow, I keep going with the dream in a way I want to go with it, or I force myself to wake up, then go back to sleep.

Last night, though, when I got home, I was completely exhausted from a week of 14-16 hour days. It felt good to lay on the couch, watch some comedy. Eventually I was fading off so I got in bed. I'd had nearly a full medium calzone about an hour before, which isn't usual, but I was starving.

About 4 a.m., I found myself in this nightmare. I can't explain it - it had a close friend who was somehow "evil" and terrorizing me, etc. etc. He started to choke me, and I guess I realized I was dreaming, but I was trapped and couldn't wake myself up. I was struggling for breath, and trying to force my eyes open. I kept falling back into bed and then trying again to force my eyes open and get up, but I could only make out the clock by my bed showing 4 something. My eyes were trying so hard. I tried for what seemed like a couple minutes, and all of a sudden I was awake. I took a deep gasp of air like I hadn't been breathing and had to calm myself down. Clock still showed 4 something, which made it all the more scarier for me, I guess.

I've never had a nightmare where I "dreamed" of something that was/was still "there" when I woke up. (The clock). I've thought about it all day and so I had to start researching online because the only thing out of the ordinary was the amount of food I'd had, and of course, being completely exhausted.

Just wanted to share. Thanks to everyone who has posted here. Been sort of insightful, and makes me feel a little better.

EDIT: I laughed when I read about someone dreaming they were being chased by a T-rex. I've had that as an ongoing dream since I was a kid. Probably have it twice a year, and it's always the EXACT same. Chases me from my house, down a dirt road toward a creek, and then I fall off a cliff and suddenly wake up. :D
