I thought it would be interesting to know what people do for the environment, and how many of you go out of your way to be environmentally friendly.

Personally, I care about it as much as the next guy, but I don't feel strongly enough about it to be that extreme. I just do the regular stuff really like recycling (although my mum takes care of most of that in my house) and reusing old bottles etc. but not much else. I suppose I should probably pay more attention but I wouldn't know where to start. >.<

So what about you? Are any of you really involved in environmental issues, or do you not really care?

i dont care about the enviroment, i recycle, but thats because i have more room in the bin for other rubbish.

Same as that, I've never really bothered that much about it.
Someone once made a funny point, in Irish though... but in English it's as follows:
"If we burn more plastic, then the hole will get bigger, and we'll have nicer weather and we can go swimming everyday...."
LOL.

I'm not involved in any environmental issues. Honestly, I do care about my surroundings, but here in Columbus, Ohio...there's really nothing I can do about it, especially if the community don't care either.

For instance, there is a dead raccoon lying on the side of the street right before you enter the little hidden area that leads to a few houses, including ours. The animal has been there for more than a week now, yet the people couldn't be bothered about the matter.

You're right - where do we start? There are a whole bunch of other trash being carelessly thrown away left and right. In that case, it's really hard to care for a place when the people who lives in it don't give a damn either.

I don't litter, don't use cars only carpooling. Buying cheap stuff. Turning off lights. Turn off taps while brushing teeth.
Sometimes picking litter off other people..

Erm.. I recycle, don't litter, keep all lights, tvs, taps (while brushing teeth) off as much as possible. I'm thinking of starting to make a compost bin. You know, put food and organic matter in it, and let the worms eat it all up, then use what they did to it and put it on plants and garden. I also pick up the odd bit of litter now and then. But where I live, there really isn't any, but at school, that is another story.

I also eat the ceral Kellogs Cornflakes. If you have 4 tokens you can send them off into this Irish charity for african families. That company is called "Bothar" pronounces 'bowhar'. The charity gives trees to african families, which provide food, shelter, firewood etc. And also nitrogen with is a very good thing for nature and the enviroment.

Not much then it would seem.

Well, not a profound amount, no. Besides shutting off the taps when I brush my teeth and turning off lights and that, I don't really do much else. I don't pay attention to the aerosols that I use, I just use them. I wouldn't know how to tell the difference between a harmful and non-harmful one, unless it said on the can.

I use energy saving lightbulbs, turn off the stand by button and all that other stuff like composting waste food. The thing that i do most is boycott companies which damage the enviroment

I don't recycle, I really should do really. I yell at people for wasting paper and thats about it really

The only reason I turn my lights of and don't leave my TV on standby is because I rinse my electric enough & I cant afford it xD

Wow Greenpeace would have my arse if they knew how shockingly ungreen I was

Lol yeh, I don't leave my tv on standby because the red light annoys me when I'm trying to sleep, same with my ps2.

i cover them up with a shirt, much easier then turning them off.

Wow Greenpeace would have my arse if they knew how shockingly ungreen I was
i dont think you will be at the top of the list though, so you have time to change your planet killing ways

This sounds bad but i dont really bother. I'm not gonna do stuff to harm the environment but i'm not an active eco friendly person

Well yeah, I'm not fired up about all this environment stuff either but I do what I can. Meaning I toss my plastic bottles into the recycling bins at school, I throw my trash whenever possible, and basically conserve when I can.

I'd do more, but y'know...lief.

Has anyone heard that the energy saving light bulbs that have been publisied as saving the enviroment actually contain murcury one of the biggest poisons out there. Whenever one breaks the area should be treated as a hazard zone.

I actually heard that earlier today. I have an energy saving lightbulb in my bedroom and I don't know how many times I've accidentally hit it. o_O Guess I should try and be more careful.. don't want to end up with Mercury Poisoning. >.<

I'm just like any other person, recycle thinks here and there (mainly at home) and thats about it. I know very few people are 'eco friendly' to a large extent.

mercury is only dangerous as long as you dont ingest it, so as long as you arent eating the lightbulbs they arent dangerous.

Actually, you can get poisoned by it if you breathe in the fumes aswell. Like the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland, he was mad because mercury used to be used in making hats.

Only a little bit of Mercury is used in the lightbulbs, but I still wouldn't want to be exposed to it. o_O Mercury poisoning has many symptoms including loss of hair and teeth, insomnia, amnesia, kidney dysfunction, and eventually death. Although this depends on what way you were exposed to the mercury, but I still wouldn't want to risk it. >_<
