As some of you may know, I've recently started to play Final Fantasy IX again. I'm up to the part where I fly around on the Hilda Garde III and drop off my parties to the various shrines.

I noticed a shadow in the sea when I was flying, but I couldn't be bothered to investigate; my game is an old pirate version, you see and so such glitches often pop up.

However, I was flying through the Forgotten Continent and hit the seashore this time ... only to find said shadow once again. This time, however, it was moving - slowly, but still moving.

Wtf? xD

I don't know about that but these 'shadows' can be found in various areas, so far i have seen one in the southwest corner of the map, one on a small continent near chocobo haven and another near daguerro

no idea what they do though or if they even have a purpose

^.^ I think the chocobo's air garden appears in 2 or 3 different locations. That had me baffled for quite a while as well. ^.^

Can't get there without a Gold flying chocobo! ^.^

Yup, it's Chocobo's Air Garden. You need a Golden Chocobo to enter it, by pressing O, I think. It's where Ozma is ... so ... be careful :P

EDIT:
Damn you, Rhea! Ninja-ing me ¬_¬

Yup, once you get there...you're basically doomed. Not to discourage you or anything but Ozma is one bee-hatch of a 'boss', circle...thing. xD

It's DEFO the air garden, i think it's where Ozma lurks, it just moves around to various spots in the sky leaving a shadow in the sea

If it's the Air Garden, then why is it underwater?

Also, I never really got into the Chocobo thing for this game ... what do I do? xD I intend on getting Ark this time, ye see.

lol, what he said......

and yeah, it was actually a side quest i enjoyed out of the whole game. I just involes going in the forests and finding items i think and visiting certain spots in the world that took me AGES to find them all!!

Man, I died of boringness in Chocobo Hot And Cold mini-game. It took me hours to get a Chocograph and another hour to find the spot. I found like 12 Chocograph places and my chocobo still didn't changed to red chocobo.

The air garden is always around 5 different areas:
The coast directly east of the Water Shrine
The coast southeast of the Earth Shrine
The coast directly west of Alexandria (although I never once saw it there)
Over the ocean dead center in the world map

Sooometimes it won't appear AT ALL though, that once happened to me, I flew around Gaia about 5 times covering all areas looking for it and not once did I see it. If that happens just reset *shrugs*

Hope that helps a bit ^_^ I didn't even do the whole chocobo sidequest until this year (my sixth file) and it only took me 4 tries to kill Ozma. Don't even attempt to fight him unless you have someone who can hit for 9999 each turn (don't use Vivi's doomsday, there's a chance it will heal Ozma). Even if you don't fight Ozma the quest is still worth it for Zidane and Steiner's uber weapons.

And it's not that long either, you can get to a gold chocobo in a day if you google a map with all the treasure locations that give you upgrades.

I was always hoping that it wasn't the air garden; that it was just a coincidence. I really wanted the shadows to be some secret boss or something, like the Emerald Weapon was in FFVII (even though it's not that secret now XD)

But....Ozma is IN the air garden...he's one of the most uber secret bosses FF has ever had.

Once you've been there once, it appears on the map so you can just use the auto-pilot to get there if you're having problems finding it. :monster:

Yeah, I read that on a couple websites when I was doing the chocobo sidequest. Funny thing is, it never showed up on my map so I had to hunt it down all the time >_<

Yeah, this had me asking the same thing my first time through as well… I also found the PlayOnline strategy guide to be quite useless on the subject as a whole. On a side note, it was one of my favorite sidequests in the game, not to mention fighting Ozma.

I quite enjoyed fighting Ozma. It was challenging...took me about 10 tries though!

Ozma absorbs Shadow by default, but if you do the friendly creatures' sidequest [y'know, the one involving those that want ore and gems] to completion, Ozma will become weak to Shadow. In that case, Doomsday is a great way to spend a turn healing everyone and exploiting the boss' weakness -- lord knows that ol' sphere will get in its fair share of turns, hmm?
