Am I the only one in the world who spells properly with (almost always) correct grammar?

Okay, maybe i came on a bit strong but i feel that no matter where you are, you should use proper grammar, even on forums. I know i do, even though sometimes i let go.

What i want to know is do people appreciate proper language and does anyone else stray away from "LOL"'s and "OMFG"'s. I also rarely use smileys, even on MSN.

Should be a capital letter, as John is a name.

End of a sentence, needs a fullstop.

He saw his best friend peter. "Hey Pete." "Hey John."

Again, Peter is a name and thus should be capitalised. One could also argue that a comma should be placed before the name. And also, as there is a new speaker, it should be on a new line.

"How was india, Pete." Asked John.

Should be a question mark, not a fullstop.

"It was fine I guess..." Peter sighed.

Nothing wrong there.

"Were did you go?" Said John, sitting down.

Again, nothing wrong although one could argue that 'asked' could be used instead of 'said' but it's a matter of opinion really.

"It was okay the whether was bad though." Said Peter, sitting down.

Should not be a fullstop there, but a comma. Therefore 'said' should not be caplitalised.

"Wait my phones ringing, okay, I have to go."

The phrase there is 'phone is' and therefore there should be an apostrophe placed between the 'e' and 's.'

John and Peter said goodbye to each other and went their seperate ways.

Nothing wrong in that one.

I agree strongly about the use of correct grammar on message boards. I can understand it if English is not your primary language, but if it is then using proper grammar is just being curteous and well mannered.

There's actually only 9 mistakes; the eight that I pointed out, and I missed the capitalisation of 'India.'
I'm assuming that you intentionally mis-spelled the words 'Were', 'whether' and 'seperate'? They actually aren't grammatical errors, but are spelling errors.

I have no problem with common abbreviations. lol, rofl, all of that works for me. I don't claim to be be perfect grammatically but I do try to be understandable. If I see an error, I'll fix it. I'm not even remotely close to being flawless but I do try. That's much better than a lot of internet posters.

I feel like I'm being bullied... I'm not saying that I'm perfect, I just do them accidentally... just accidents.

Maybe I should say that I'm all for TRYING to spell correctly and keep up (as good as) good grammar. I don't like purposefully mis-spelling. Is that better!?

Actually, his terminology is correct. By using the 'a' you imply that it is a noun, which grammar is not. Of course the word grammar should not have been capiltalised, and the word is in fact anymore, not any more.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that as long as you TRY to be gramatically correct and such. What I don't like is when people puposefully use "LOL" and stuff. I even know friends who "LOL" in real life... One even "ROFL"'d...

I count more than ten mistakes, I'm afraid.

The thing that really grates on my nerves is the continually-diminishing Scottish language and, being in Scotland, I know just how bad it actually is. There's one thing using a bit of "slang" when you speak, there's another creating an entirely different language and calling that Scottish, which is clearly is not.

Take, for example, a former-friends Bebo profile:
"наppιзѕт шнзи;;đяuикзи нιgнѕтяззт ваитзя ιзgзиđѕ pιѕѕзđ ιи мc đоиаιđѕ ;; άмч & тнз gιзиѕ ;; кuяѕтзи & тнз взаcн - wιтн тнз [ван] ;; ιзgзиđ & взvзззззззч [н] ;; тнз fат fuскзяѕ - таѕна waѕ sнокđ =O ;; pιѕѕзđ ѕноuтιиg wооp wι cяаιg ат яаиđомѕ wι sιcк ои ооя тяаιизяѕ "

That's a combination of "trendy" symbols and ridiculously-written Dysart slang ... and Dysart is a part of Scotland.

The other thing that is just ludicrous is the abundance of double-negatives, particularly used in the following sense:
"I didny even dae nuhin." (I didn't even do nothing).
That means you did do something...

I try to use perfect grammar anytime I do anything. Whether it be talking or typing. I don't want to come off lokking like a bumbling fool every where I go. I want people to know that I am an educated fellow. Even though I never did well in English class I still speak proper English. I'll try your challenge.

Whether is spelled "weather" and there should be a comma after bad.

Needa comma after Wait, an apostrophe before "s" in phones, and "Okay, I have to go" is a whole new sentence.

Seperate should be spelled separate.

I miss good grammar, however, I do use the ocassional IMO or LOL.
Text speak needs to die a slow and painful death.

As an English major I can assure you that it still exists. However, not a lot of people bother to use it anymore. I think this stems from the fact that we as a society (I'm talking about American culture, though it can apply to others as well) tend to want to get things done and done fast. So by limiting the time it takes to press the comma button, or maybe even the period, we have gained a nano second of our time in order to contribute it elsewhere in our lives. D:

As for spelling a word with a completely different letter, I can only imagine one would do it simply because they think it looks "cool", when most of the time it just makes them look like an idiot (that or I desperately hope it's an inside joke).

Then again you have to realize that not everyone's first language is English, which is completely understandable.

I could list a myriad of different reasons but I just don't feel like it right now.

I do let it slide though if it's online. As long as you can understand what the person is saying (or trying to say), then there is really no harm done. I'll admit I use chat speak every now and then, but usually to be cute or as a joke. But when it comes to business/important issues, that is when you should definitely use proper grammar and spelling.

I believe that proper grammer is not really needed depending on the situation. The point of writing and speech is not to use it 'properly', but to communicate with someone else. I believe that any type of grammer is okay as long as the person you are speaking to can understand it easily. However, I do believe that it is important for people to at least know how to use proper grammer. This is because anyone who can speak the language will definately understand someone who is using proper grammer.
