gonna buy this game... yup

i bought it...

and i'm liking, finally got Ashe(\o/)
anyhow, the Garuda totally destroyed me, couldn't even outheal his damage spamming Cure with both Penelo(my white mage) and Ashe(red mage)

guess i'm gonna need some training though

anyhow, the combat system didn't feel FF, nothing in the game did, it felt like a Harry Potter game, but i'm enjoying it nonetheless, but i don't see it as an FF...

i hope FFXIII does give the FF feeling... otherwise.....

to me this game failed as an FF, but won as a regular RPG(which are enjoyable too)

gief random battles, so i don't aggro 20 other bystanding monsters and get a game-over

How is it not an FF? There are so many things making it an FF, even if you exclude the battle system. Nothing in the game did? You haven't even got halfway, and you're already throwing in the towel on this. You're going to have give me examples ya know. Then I can give you reasons as to why this is an FF (not something based on my opinions, just things I noticed from the game, little facts and what not)

If we're going to have random battles all the time, how can you expect FF to progress battle system wise?

sorry for not following YOUR opinion...
i found it not an FF in the way the battle system goes, the weapons used(too ordinary), the story's just odd and too common in the movies,
chocobo's are nice, so are summons and spellnames, but that cannot make an FF an FF

Well what do you expect me to say when your post comes off as somewhat confusing? Like your throwing in the towel so early on?

That's the first. How's the story odd :P? Sure, it kinda follows some previous storylines, but not everything is completely generic.

You don't have to follow my opinion. Duh. I don't want some asskisser, unless it's someone that seriously liked the judges 8D. I was just trying to make a point. You've not even got halfway and your making comments about the game as a whole already.

Anyway, here are some reasons as to why I personally think this plays as an FF. Yar, I don't want anybody flaming me mmk? Just want to show Raptorg from my point of view why this is still a true FF.

- Cid! Yar, of course there's a Cid.
- Airships! The ones used by the Empire are named after previous FF summons, like Ifrit and Valefor.
- If you followed Tactics Advance, and FFT, you'd know these games are all connected in some way.
- Moogles and Chocobos play a somewhat larger role in this game. Though it's no longer a case of walking on some tracks on a world map and calling one out, you can still ride them, heck you can even speed em up! Also, they're actually used in battle (see the opening video), and are often used in parades (see the beginning when some are taken into Rabanastre). FFXII has retained the credible nature of Chocobos, and I think, have given them a more important role.
- Moogles have once again been seen as important figures, and this game gives more credibility and intelligence ( IX seemed to be the only other game to do this).
- The monsters - some are tributes to past creatures - take the Mesmenir I think on Ozmone Plains. Tribute to those horse like creatures from ff8 whose blades you could knock off?
Orthros, a tribute to Ultros, and of course Gilgamesh along with Enkidu!
- 1000 Needles can be used! (But as a Technick)
- Magic is still pretty much good old FF magic.
- You have some Espers named after some previous FF bosses - Chaos, Ex-Death, and also some Espers taken from TA - Adrammalech (Bangaa), Famfrit (Moogles), Mateus (Humes), Ultima (Nu Mou) and ExDeath (Viera). Also, Cuchulainn was taken from FFT, although he was under a different name.
- Crystals! They make appearances as...save points XD

yes, but all that alone doesn't make an FF an FF...
names and designs are just an attempt to say "this is an FF", but seriously, other games can do the same and fail at actually being a game of such

this doesn't feel like an FF but like a harry potter game, period

and judges are weak...

You've completely ignored my points about how FFXII has successfully incorporated things into making this a true FF. Judges aren't weak either - they have a lot of power in Archades, and that power was growing.
But in the end, few could battle inner demons successfully [Gabranth], others lusted power [Ghis, Bergan]
. If they're weak in that sense, so is every other human on the planet. This isn't my fangirlism biasedness coming into light, it's a fact. (Humes are all the same, well, pretty much, if many of us are tempted, or have similar personalities)

I'll expand on the summons for instance - they'd made them attached to the storyline in a big way, though they could have been a wee bit better to use in battle.

Cid, has his connections with airships, and probably has an extremely large role in the game itself - previous FF games never really seemed to touch on this. Early titles only really had Cid as just someone who worked airships, nothing more. FFVIII's Cid, though owning Garden, didn't really come across as anything significant. FFVII's Cid, you could count as being somewhat important, yet, he wasn't something LIKE WOAH SIGNIFICANT in terms of major storyline points/plots. FFIX's Cid and X had larger roles, and to me felt more involved, but XII seems to make Cid in this more important, as his character is seen as a villain. Which is a nice change, as it's pretty frickin sweet one of the best loved characters gets special treatment after so long deserving.

;D

;D

i royally(spelling?) handed Ghis his ass, now that is weak considering i was seriously underleveled(flee-running ftw)
but that aside...

i have my opinion you have yours, you're not gonna convince me

I'm not trying to get you to blatantly follow me like I already mentioned, I'm simply stating obvious facts which should be taken into consideration at least.

Something as different as FFXII shouldn't not be considered a Final Fantasy. That's fanboy-ism in itself, not to mention ignorant. Every FF game varies from the last, and some moreso than others. XII just so happens to have incorporated a vastly different style than any of the others. And in truth, the only thing which doesn't strike me as a regular Final Fantasy characteristic is the battle system. Everything else is hugely Final Fantasy.

As for the Judges, they're just Judge Magistrates. Not warriors. They sentence people for crimes, not fight wars. However they happen to have skill in terms of combat, those such as Bergan, Zargabaath and Gabranth ALL have great military influence and power. They don't have to be remarkably overwhelming as far as bosses go.

Also, Rulia doesn't seem to be trying to convert your opinion in any way. She's stating the facts of the game. :/

She was giving reasons as to why it is a Final Fantasy, not posting them for a hell of it. Besides, it hardly matters whether you asked for it or not. She was justifying as to why she thinks it's is an FF.
