I heard that Penance was thing that officialy destroid Zanarkand affetar Sin atack and provoque the creation of the Farplane...
that is cool really cool

do you have any sources or anything to back that up?

and since when are zanarkand and Penance in FFVIII? i always thought they were in FFX :P

I think this was put in the wrong section. You say Zanarkand? This belongs in the Final Fantasy X section, not the Final Fantasy VIII section. Also, as AG has pointed out, do you have any proof?

the thing is though...wasnt it Sin who destroyed Zanarkand? and how could something be that absurdly powerful to create the farplane? for all we know the Farplane is Spiras afterlife and Penance isnt Omnipotent,

id still really like to see the original source for this information.

I can't find any information apart from Guides for killing Penence >_< I'm pretty sure it was Sin who destroyed Zanarkand though ;)

He probably heard a rumour about it, or he just made that up.
Penance has no direct relation the FFX storyline, it's only an optional boss.

Closest you can say is that Penance appeared as a penance for daring to reject Yevon.

I doubt Penance could destroy Zanarkand since Sin destroyed it first...;)

Anyway as far as the fairplane goes i doubt Penance created it, i think Penance is actually nothing more than the ultimate way that Yevon fanatics found to make the infidels (Yuna and group) pay for their challenge against Yevon, just like the dark aeons!

That makes perfect sense. Penance isnt a god, he isnt onimpotent - and therefore didnt create the farplane.

The best you could say for penance is your quote ^ or that he is like the strongest dark aeon ever created, because after all Yuna didnt visit all the temples in spira - so for all we know Penance could just be a dark version of one of those aeons.

Also he's not in the American version so that would leave a very big loop-hole for us U.S.ers + the Canadians with the game.

I bet though if you look around in the game about mention of Dark Aeons though you could find out some sort of reference in-game to them like The Slasher was mentioning.

Unfortunately, there's absolutely no reference to either the Dark Aeons or Penance throughout the story. Not even Maechen spills something of worth, so the most knowledge we can gain of them is through speculation.

Though, it's more probable that they're just a handful of super-bosses which Enix decided to incorporate for the European release. And if that's all it is, I sure as hell ain't complaining. XD

The Dark Aeons and Penance are just extra bosses added by SE on the PAL version of FFX for it's ever patient European fans, I don't think they have their own official story or any background info because they have nothing to do with the original story, they're just nifty add-ons, nothing more.

Well if penance came from the calm lands, he probably came from the gorge, because if you remember near the gorge in the main area of the calm lands there is a woman there (Blitzballs Savanda). and she describes the creation of the gorge. speak too here again and she says that the people of the calm lands throw the dead in the gorge and they might become fiends, or join together to make penance.

The woman says, "This gorge is called the Scar. They say when the high summoner cornered Sin, Sin tore the earth here asunder with the last of it's strength. The high summoner and Sin struck eachother down at the gorge's bottom. Lord Gandof's sacrifice brought us the Calm. In the Calm Lands, we bury our dead in this gorge. We cannot send them because few summoners ever make it this far. I've heard that the dead that don't recieve a proper sending roam the bottom of the gorge as fiends." - No mention of Penance what-so-ever

i did some research into this on the internet, but there was nothing on it. So in a last resort i looked at the dictionary and found out the true meaning of penance.
"Penance
An act of mortification undertaken voluntarily or imposed by a priest to mannifest sorrow for sin: the sacrament by which absolution is conveyed: expiation: hardship"

And too my previous comment i was just theorising where possibly penance could of originated.
