I understand that new limit levels are unlocked by killing X enemies after gaining the previous levels tier 2 limit. What I don't know is whether or not this refers to that character itself killing that many creatures or the party killing that many creature while that character is in it.

Can anyone clarify this?

It is the amount of kills a set character has done and not that of the party. Hope this helps :D

It does... thanks. That really sucks. I can't be lazy and just fury rings on all my chars to get Cids next limits lol.

good question well this is how i look it up or learn it on my own about how limit breaks work it counts towards how many enemies you killed with that character(s) not how many times you killed your party members like for an example say you are level 1 dice with caite sith you need to kill 40 enemies with caite sith himself and if you kill your party members that don't counts.

Same concept with everyone in your party members and if you want to learn the final level level 4 limit break then those special items you have to find then afterwards you have to learn 2 of each levels for each level you have 2 limit breaks a piece except caite sith and and if i recall correctly you have to the first of each level limit breaks to number of certain times then the limit break is on next level.

And if you want second limit of the that level you are on then you have to kill certain numbers of enemies with that character alone and if you kill your party members that doesn't count towards to the numbers and if you want/or if you like to know how like how many times and same with how many enemies don't hesitate to ask and i gladly share it with you :).

I wasn't referring to killing my own party... I meant, if the party kills 3 creatures, but Cid doesn't get any of the final blows on those creatures, does Cid get the +3 kills or not?

and to answer this no it doesn't Cid have to kill those enemies alone in order to get +3 kills if he doesn't then the others either get 1+ or 2+ or 3+ kills depending on which ally who killed the enemies itself
