Which Final Fantasy to play?

Ask REAL veterans of the series what they think of Final Fantasy VIII or FFX, not the emotional kiddies, a real veteran. A lot of people didn't like the game, ask anyone who first played it back in the day, ask them what they think of it.

Spoony fanboy alert :P

Also, a lot of veterans actually like those games. It's all about perspective. I personally love FFX, but I dislike FFVIII. Having played all the FF games you could consider me a veteran of the series. Your opinion hardly speaks for other "veterans".

And if you want to base things off of stereotypes of "old school" or "veteran" FF gamers, you should hate FF7. It was overrated with a villain who was nothing more than a mama's boy. FFVI is superior to it in every way, shape, or form. Not saying that this is true, but one could easily argue that most FF veterans think like that.

Also, no offense, but you're coming across as a total douchebag.

Finally some common sense NeoTesseract...
Squall became the way he is because of abandonment issues. His situation coincides with the normal patterns of real life. An orphan whose "sis" left him alone. His "sis" was his real childhood connection and she too left him... Of course that will create trauma in a child. No wonder he is reserved. Also he is not awkward talking to girls. He is just very introverted thats all. Now regarding Cloud, The emo thing rings a bell in my head when I think of that scene where Tifa is in his mind. That has Emo all over it. The whole rant about him being a failure etc etc. He has no confidence in himself in spite of all the weird shit that happened to him ( the implementation of jenova cells resulting in the whole copycat of Zack's personality and memories).

True, and I apologize.

Also, I did not say that FFVII was the best in the series. I said that it was "the last great Final Fantasy"

I did not say that it was my favorite game in the series, either. :P

It's alright. And sorry, I misread your statement. I thought you meant it was your favorite FF. Which is your favorite, btw?

And ahhh.....this is going off-topic. OP: play FF7 first then work your way up to 9. lol.

Phew I'm glad this conflict is over (hopefully).

Please take anymore arguments via PMs and stop going off-topic. This will be the last warning.

On-topic, I would suggest going by sequence. But it doesn't really matter as long as you have an open mind every time you play a new one. Don't expect one game to be similar to the other. And I assure you, you will most likely enjoy all three games to the fullest. I love all three of them in different ways.

It's all up to personal choice and views really.

Out the main three I find to like FF7 the least; though it's still pretty fun and enjoyable. The 3 games are all pretty fun and nice and it shouldn't really matter what order you play them in because they're all pretty good.

FF VIII will be extremely different and will change the battle system up completely. I will recommend finding some non-spolish FAQs and watching a non- spoiler Lets Play to help you out with the confusing Junction system and the uniqueness of this FF title. HC Bailey on YouTube comes to mind.

FFIX is again pretty different though more in storyline and in character design. It will take a while to warm up too and adjust to strangeness of everything. Once you get passed that. FF9 should hopefully be a wonderful title to the series and a enjoyable play-through. FF9 is my favorite game throughout the series because the story is quite touching and emotional. It's a epic game. [ SHUSH MARTEL YOU KNOW IT'S GREAT ]

I might suggest going through FFIX next after FF VII and then leaving FF VIII for last to study about the complex Junction system, card gaming that you'll need for rare items and how to get through without leveling up because you can't level up on this game. I bet you're already confused reading this. Sorry.
:P

Personally I enjoy FF8 and FF9 tons more than FF7 because they feel more deeper character design wise and have more deeper emotional stories; though I find none of them to be really terrible or awful. Though FF8 is sometimes quite hated and FF9 is either really adored or really despised.[ Ignore Martel she doesn't know what she's saying. FF9 is a superb game.
;)) ]

About Cloud and Squall none of them are 'emo' Emo is a brand style of a musical genre. Cloud is confused about his identity and Squall has troubles of his own. None of them are really depressed, or suicidal or cutting themselves during their OG games. They are just going through troubles which makes their characters more human and less like cardboard cutouts.

If you want more FF VII. Watch the movie Advent Children Complete and play Crisis Core. They should full you up with more FF VII. I doubt SE will make a proper FF VII sequel because they seem to be more interested in the future of gaming than the past at the moment.
:)

Hey,

Maybe you should try playing FF8 with the Squall is dead theory in mind
Its kinda fun, still the same game but a different perspective.

Much love
