Hey Everyone!

Well after a lot of debate I decided to buy myself a PSP GO which I got a great deal on £40.00 with a £20.00 PSP Store Voucher!

So I downloaded Wild Arms, FF7, FF8 and FF9

Must admit I was a bit put off my PSP Go and was tempted to go for a 3000 but after using it only a few hours I really like it!

But which game should I play next?
Pros? Cons?
Let me hear your opinion!

I would start with FF7 personally and then go to FF8 and 9. But that's because I like to do things in order and I have OCD like that XD

But my friend is playing FF7 on her PSP Go and she likes it so far. She no longer has her PS1 or PS3 so it's the only way she can play FF7 or FF8 (her favorite). I don't have a PSP Go myself so I can't give you pros or cons, but I can go by what my friend said. Which is generally positive.

I suppose you already have played 7,8,9.
Supposing that you should play final fantasy 6 or 10 (if you have a ps2/3). Final fantasy 6 is in 2d but that doesnt take away any of its quality. It has a very deep and engaging story. It has nice characters a good villain and a huge world to explore. It took me a while of getting used to as I had never played a 2d final fantasy before but after you get over the graphics you will feel the epic dimension this game has.
Summing it up:
Pros: ff6
- Very good story.
- A huge world to explore.
- Little linearity.
- Likeable and well developed and a varied cast of characters.
- Rather difficult considering further installments (7,8,9).. Atleast thats what I think. Not too hard aswell. But it does have challenges in it.
- Great gameplay!
- Amazing soundtrack
Cons:
- Graphics.
- The villain has little background with only ingame information but there is canon information that gives the villain a satisfatory and enlightening background.
- The espers(summons) are not very good in battle but they are fundamental to learning abilities and raising your character's specific stats.

Now Final Fantasy X. It is by far one of the best Final Fantasy stories out there... Its so deep and powerful that I can assure that atleast 80% of the people who completed the game cried at the end. It has an amazing combat system, beautiful world, compelling soundtrack and it does have some of the toughest challenges of the series . The biggest challenges are only available for the european version of the game but nevertheless there are still some tough challenges in the American version such as Nemesis.
Summing it up:
- Amazing and very touching storyline
- Unforgettable music
- Cool bosses
- Detailed and interesting symbolism related to the game
- It is a challenging game
- Aeons(summons) are very cool in this game
- Great and very customizable leveling system (Sphere grid)
- A huge amount of side content
Cons:
- Some say the voice acting isnt very good although I love it
- Some dislike some characters although I love them all
- A little more linear

Ah! Hello there.

In regard, to the PSP GO being shunned by everyone, I would agree with you that once I got my hands on it I really loved it. The lack of a UMD drive makes it so much quieter.

Now, to the issue at hand.

FFVII- Is without a doubt, the last great Final Fantasy. Lots of fans look back at the early games with nostalgia,
and Final Fantasy VII seems to be the "icon", if you must, of the old days. It was a great game for its time, not
very sure if one would critique it if one were to play it today for the first time through the lenses of this generation.
Graphics are outdated, battle system is slow, random battles are very annoying, and the character animation is very
rudimentary. However,I would encourage you to play it. Story-wise, it doesn't get much better than this game;
adventure, revenge, struggles against greater powers, plot twists etc. are all present in unique and beautiful delivery.
Definitely, the last great Final Fantasy. This should be your First.

FFVIII- Oh god, FFVII was such a great game, distilling beauty of video game design and then...this? Ok, it was not such
a bad game
(rather, it was a very bad game) , one of the reasons why a lot of veterans hate this game is because we were all
waiting for a sequel to FFVII. Instead, we got a kick to the nads and this game. The game itself is a great improvement graphics-wise to the blocky
character design of FFVII, and.. thats it. If anything, this is the game where FF as a series started going wrong. The characters
were hell of annoying. Squal, the main character, is an emo git that will simply get on your nerves, with the ellipsis and
his inability to talk to girls, his weird emo hair... horrible stuff. I don't want to start a long rant here, but there is plenty wrong
with the senseless story as well. STAY AWAY FROM IT KIDS. If you must play, pay it last, but I would suggest that you don't waste
precious time and look for something better.

FFIX- Final Fantasy IX was actually a really good game, a serious attempt at bringing back the magic from the old days. The
battle system didn't change much, with the same elemental turn-based mechanics still present. However, story-wise, this
game is a thriving example of what Final Fantasy used to be. Great plot, paces itself sometimes and suddenly takes off, very
entertaining and beautiful. Graphics are the very best of its generation, gorgeous cinematics and superb character design.
The soundtrack was one of the most memorable in the entire series, really adds to the atmosphere of the game. All in all,
great little game, engaging, entertaining, nostalgic, beautiful. Play this second.

Also, I hope you can clarify, since your post is not all that clear.

You want to know which game besides the ones you listed, should you play next?

Or, which game from the list you provided should you play through first?

Now Im pissed... I know that everyone has the right to have their own opinions but for christ sake.. How the hell can you basically say that a game is shit and worthless just because you didnt like it.. Final fantasy 8 is a very controversial game. There are those who love it and those who hate it but dont poison other people's possible experience of the game just because you didnt like the characters for whatever reason you have. You say Squall is emo but you love Final Fantasy VII. Tell me more about how Cloud is not emo or even less emo than Squall(And take into consideration that I prefer 7 to 8 but only by a little bit. And I love both protagonists.) I found that type of criticism very poorly done with little detail, badly explained arguments based on "School rumour" kind of rants. You could say... Some of the plot wasnt very well explained or executed sure or say that some characters have little background or something but even so that is only a result of you not liking the game.
I played 8 after 7 and the epicness of 7 didnt hurt my enjoyment of 8 in any way. And how could you expect a sequel of ff7.. You do know that the main numbered titles are not related to each other, dont you?

Yeah, now I'm wondering if he meant the games he listed or other games.........

Well, if you meant other games I'm not really sure what else is on the PSP Go. I'm assuming FF Tactics would be on the PSN so I would go with that.

Hahaha. This from a guy that likes Final Fantasy X, that abomination of a game.

Cloud was basically turned into an emo in sequels, he was a very confident young man that left his home town to pursue a dangerous career as a SOLDIER, what has that to do with being emo???
Squall is an emo from the get-go. It is very clear that you have never played the game, or that you have only played it through partially.

Ask REAL veterans of the series what they think of Final Fantasy VIII or FFX, not the emotional kiddies, a real veteran. A lot of people didn't like the game, ask anyone who first played it back in the day, ask them what they think of it.

I am not a moron, and I am not the only one that thought the game was crap. I played through it, mostly because I spent money on it back when I first got it and I would be damned if I let that piece of shit beat me. The game was horrible, Squall was a moron, Selphie had the brains of a fly, Zell was just as stupid, Seifer was so gay for Squall, the only likable character as far as I can recall was Quistis. The Gunblades were stupid, defied all logic, and made everyone look like clowns. The story was horrible, for example, I recall them going on a "mission" to repair some communications tower because over the air signals had been long gone, yet two idiots up there were using over the air devices to communicate!!! (correct me if I'm wrong, its been ages).

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if he wants to play it will be his choice.

Sorry I will explain a little better, My Bad.

I was trying to decide between 7,8 and 9 to play next.
I have PS2 and PS3 and already played 6 and 10(Looking forward to HD Remake)

I also have DS with FF3 and FF4(IV is it? the one with Rydia)

Just looking what to start as my next game.

And yes I really do enjoy the PSP Go, I was a little put off at first as I was used to the old style PSP but I must admit the GO is a great little system!

And don't even get me started on the card battle game.

That pointless bullshit.

When a game sucks so much, that you feel the need to add a long, boring, tedious card battle game just as a filler!

You know you did something wrong.

edit:

Also, I am telling him that if he must play it, to play it last. NOT TO NOT PLAY IT AT ALL!

God!

Stay away from it is my advice, and look for a better game ( trust me there are plenty better) but if you must play, play it last.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Well I just ask . Who the hell are you to say who is a veteran or isnt. First of all Cloud was a confident young man when he WAS BEHAVING LIKE Zack.. And that just smells of failure that you dont even know the story of your favourite game. After Sephiroth started messing with him and Aeris died he was emotional at best and to be honest he has every right to be just as Squall has considering their pasts. Considering the ff8 criticism Im not going to bother .. Its okay if you dont like the game but I find your arguments very vague and most of them stupid, especially this one "Squall was a moron, Selphie had the brains of a fly, Zell was just as stupid, Seifer was so gay for Squall, the only likable character as far as I can recall was Quistis. The Gunblades were stupid, defied all logic, and made everyone look like clowns."
Ye... Because Final Fantasy is all about logic . Its fantasy ... And there are things that could be considered more ridiculous than the ones you pointed out.. By the way the gunblade is not really a gun it just releases energy when you pull the trigger. Seifer was so gay for Squall... WWHaaaa--This is plain retard so not commenting on it. You dont like the storyline thats fine..

Regarding final fantasy X... Well well well.. Abomination????? Its is considered by most final fantasy fans one of the best if not the best entry in the series. It has the best combat system in my opinion. Its not ridiculously easy like 7, 8 or 9 and the characters are given way more development. I dont know what you consider to be a Final Fantasy Veteran.. But to me you seem like a ridiculous hater that is full of himself.. You estabilish your ideas and opinions as objective and ultimately I dont give a damn about what you say but alteast if you are going to bash Final Fantasy Games in Final Fantasy forums do it properly with as objective as possible and well explained arguments.. Your speech is as falacious as it can get and that is already saying much.

EDIT: By the way I hate triple triad for that matter..

Please don't argue :(
This post was created on the intent of getting the pros and cons of all 3 games not to start people against each other :(

Ye im sorry.. Well Final fantasy 7 is a must play game as well as the other 2 titles.. But as phoenyx angel suggested. You should play them in the numbered order. They are all very good. They have all pros and cons but in the end they have basically the same quality. They are all an epic adventure and worthy of being called Final Fantasy in my opinion.

Thank you :)

I shall get started on 7 this evening, I am a little put off as I already selected Aeris as my fave character but it seems the poor girl has a ill fate ahead of her :(

Once Aeris has passed who would be the next best magic user?
or is it more like 8 where everyone can excel at Magic with the right training?

And how could you expect a sequel of ff7.. You do know that the main numbered titles are not related to each other, dont you?

How cute :)

The scope of that game, the epicness of it, demanded a sequel. I can recall fan art from back in the day, demanding it. And everyone expecting

the next Final Fantasy game to be a direct sequel.

Yes..I was. I was not aware of that fact. Sorry that inconsistency.
As a magic user you can pretty much use everybody as the characters are generally the same in battle(apart from limit breaks) because of the materia system... But the ones with Higher magic stats If I recall correctly are Red XIII, Cloud(cloud is good on everything) and Vincent.. But this is almost irrelevant everyone can be your magic user it makes little difference.Nevertheless I dont think magic plays a very important role in the game and my favourite parties are always either
Cid-Barret-Cloud
Red XIII-Cid- Cloud
Sometimes a little Cait Sith and Vincent here and there. On my next playthrough Ill be going for Tifa-Cloud-Yuffie for a new thing.. But I dont know if I will be able to resist Cid.. He is probably my favourite character of the franchise

hahaha!

So Cloud was acting like Zack, when he decided to man up and leave town to become a SOLDIER? hahaha

I'll leave it at that, you make fun of yourself, so why would I bother?

Also, a Final Fantasy veteran is someone that loved the series before all of the emo, anime freaks, cosplay weirdos flooded the scene.

People that love FFX are great examples of that.

You are pissed because the game you love is crap, I don't hate Final Fantasy. It is my favorite series, however I will critique and pound it
into the ground when it starts losing its way because of creepy little kiddies like you. If we are going to talk about being objective, you
provide nothing else besides saying that the games are great and I am wrong, just like a religious fundamentalist, you ignore what I say
and call me an "unbeliever" in the series. Pathetic.

There is something seriously wrong with this modern fanbase, when one tries to weed out the more unsavory aspects of the series,
all you get are raging trolls running out from all of the dark crevices of the internet.

These are not arguments, these are my opinions. Who even implied that I wanted to start an argument with you? Kiddie.

Enough said.

Alright I wont bother discussing the whole 8 and 10 thing with you because you constantly contradict yourself.. First you say that what you are saying are opinions but then you say in a factual tone that 8 is a bad game that it sucks as if it were the ultimate truth.. You are ridiculous to try to discredit my opinions because of my age. You are pathetic sir..
Regarding the 7 scene. When Cloud decided to join SOLDIER was because he was weak and he wanted to protect Tifa. He was a crybaby and the reasons that led him to become a SOLDIER are emo reasons. The whole thing of getting everyones aknowledgement..For christ sake if you say that Squall is emo you must admit that Cloud is as emo as Squall is atleast.. But this discussion is ridiculous .. Personally I dont find any of them emotional. They have backgrounds that fit their personalities.
Now regarding the veteran thing.. Let me tell you that I started the whole final fantasy thing when I was just a kid.. I was at the most 9 years old when I first played them.. I am 17 now but the whole point is I started the series with the so called "Pure" Final Fantasies. My first game was 7 and it is my favourite. I have played or atleast tried them all and I enjoy all of them and find the haters of some final fantasies such as V or VIII ridiculous to the point that they need to justify that a certain final fantasy is the best by bashing the other titles. Dont bother to answer because I lost all respect for you when you called me a kiddie to try to discredit my opinions and arguments.

It has been a very long while, but I distinctly recall Cloud being but a kid. He was weak and wanted to protect Tifa, he bravely left town to become stronger. Being weak and wanting to get strong to protect someone is very far away from emo. Weak does not yield emo I am afraid to say.

Squall was a leather wearing, ellipsis mumbling, emo from the start.

Anyway...

We both love the series, and have different opinions about it. I can only state my opinions based on the time I played the games, which was a very long time ago, and I am sure that a lot of people have much fresher
experiences with these titles than I do, or better memory not fogged by the trivialities of school and work. I am not much older than you, started with FFII on the SNES, but I grew up at the dawn of the PS1 era.

I apologize to you, in the future I will voice my displeasure in regard to these games in a more composed manner.
