It's never explained at all where Zorn and Thorn come from, we're never told when they came to be in the Queen's service or for how long they had been there. There isn't very much said about them
although at Mt Gulug Kuja informs the party that they are in fact one entity, even though up until that point they don't seem to be aware of it and have to actually be killed before they "turn". They just seem very clingy to people in power for being so powerful themselves...
; supposing they are just twin jesters
turned into a monster transformer style
where does their power
to extract eidolons
come from? :gasp:

On the other hand if they were always one entity to begin with, is it possible that monsters with the power
to extract eidolons
can be spawned from the mist? And if such a beast isn't spawned from the mist...is it created by Kuja, and if he DID create them, then why could he not
extract the eidolons
himself?

It seems to me that would leave only one person...Garland. However there's no mention that they know of him or that he knows of them.

It would seem they are the only ones in the game capable of performing an extraction, in which case why have they been left such a mystery? If all of that just sounds like me waffling the point I'm trying to get at is...where do Zorn and Thorn come from and why would they posses such power? :monster:

Umm, I don't think that anybody knows the answer to the question except the guy that thought them up as characters in the game. Like you said, there's no background on them, there are no tips hints or clues, just two little funny guys that mutate into some gross powerhouse. They might just be powerful practitioners of magic and have the ability to like extract peoples hearts from their chests, so Brahne said, why don't you try to take the eidolons out of Garnett?

Again, I don't know, just speculating. They're probably some sort of magicians, which may explain that weird mutating creature, might be another one of their magic tricks. Or maybe Kuja just pumped em full of mist or something to make them be able to mutate.

Those guys suck anyways. One of ems gay and I think the other is curious, lol.

I'm crap at starting threads...so maybe I wasn't that clear. I know there aren't any hints as to their origins otherwise I wouldn't have asked I did do the tiniest amount of what could loosely be called "research" on the matter. So I suppose what I'm looking to get out of this thread is convincing speculation as there don't seem to be any kind of definite answers that I could see anyway.

Speculation won't make a difference to my understanding of the game, and I don't think they're major characters or anything. I just think it's odd that they're the only "people" in the game that posses the power to extract eidolons and practically nothing is known about them. :gasp:

I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but I don't think that if the game developers didn't put any hints or back story in for them, that there are any hints or backstory to them. I think they just didn't plan it out with them. They just made two jesters/bodyguards that can fight alright, extract eidolons and mutate into some hideous thing. Any conclusion drawn further than that is just pure theory.

Well on The Final Fantasy wiki, the trivia section - "During the party's battle with them, they use Twin magic similar to that used by Palom and Porom in Final Fantasy IV." which means they might be kinda like palom and porom..

Ya , like they just pop-ed up out of nowhere without any background on them

More likely they were send by Kuja to extract eidolons , well , some other guys have to do the dirty job than Kuja himself.

Or perhaps their creators wanted to leave their background and whatsoever to the imaginations of the fans- us!

I kinda agree with Ms Hester Mofet's idea, of them being possibly formed by the Mist. As to why is it they could evolve to this level where they receive human emotions and even being able to speak, I probably won't know.

Nonetheless, I'm just believing that they may be from the Mist, and when
Kuja mentions they were one entity, he meant they were from the Mist.

To be confirmed though.

I've never really thought about the origins of these two. They were just.... There, and I accepted that. They turned into some weird monster thing so..... Meh. I just know they were very annoying. I was so happy when we finally got to fight them. XD
