I'm not sure what to make of this. The English is poor, the email comes from "newsletter@juracity.de" and, when I googled juracity, I could only find sites in German or that were otherwise irrelevant to the above issue in the email. They sent an attachment, which allegedly includes our internet activity over the last 6 months, but I'm not opening it - it's a winzip file and something smells fishy.

That said, my friend got a letter through the door saying something similar, about downloading music, specifically, and that he's also being monitored.

Anyone else get these messages? What do you make of them?

Can't say that I have, but then Im a good girl and I dont illegally download anything

Can't you like report it to....something, too prove it's not anything fishy, like watchdog or w/e? I hate opening things when I dont know where they come from. If it is genuine though, you are a naughty boy :wacky:

Also on that note, Danny always gets emails from 'banks' so imo, I'd say it's right to be initially suspicious D:

Alternitively, contact your Internet service provider, see what THEY say

Now why didn't I just think of that in the first place >_>

Your ISP in particular are the ones who can cut you off like that. Some random company like that shouldn't be able to at all, unless there's something I'm unaware of. So I shouldn't worry about it, unless you here from BT or Sky or whoever it is you get your internet from.

The nearest I've had is BT charging us a bit extra a couple of times for exceeding our download limit. There's never been any warnings.

Hahahah, the problem there being that I do download illegally (as does probably 95%+ of the general internet population) and so doing that would, essentially, be admitting to it to the RIGHT people, thereby shooting myself in the foot really, really hard.

That's what I was thinking...

Maybe you and your friend downloaded music or whatever from the same site, and this site sends out this letter/email thing?

.De means it's from Denmark, right? I wouldn't take it seriously unless you get a letter from your real email providers.

He got a letter through the door; I got mine through an email.

That is not sounding too good. And I wouldn't open the winzip file, if I were you. Good chance it's just a spam message with a virus attached.

It's a virus, Dave. DON'T OPEN THE WINZIP.
Ooooh, ta. :wacky:

Same here. :wacky:

I'm tempted to say that "Your internet access is going to get suspended" is a somewhat unprofessional title, I really don't think that would be the subject title. Also, they're more likely to send it via the post so there is some sort of evidence that they did send a warning.

And though I've heard that a few people have been warned about illegal downloading, I've never once heard that any of them have actually been punished for it.

So I wouldn't worry. :monster:

Anything thats that damn vague is fake. If they actually state your name, account number, and are from your ISP ( not some stupid blah blah @ immatard.net) then you can start to worry. Again, they cannot revoke your internet access due to the content you are downloading. They can limit it due to the amount of content you have downloaded, but that doesn't happen much. ( heck, first time i got my DSL installed, i had it going damn near 24/7 between me playing counter strike and my sis n law playing WOW and they didn't limit me or even hint at it)

In other words, relaxxxxxx exlaxxxxxx :wacky:

I'll bare all of this in mind. xD

It's just such a coincidence that my friend received a genuine letter from his ISP on the same day - they even listed the content that he'd downloaded. I'll at least cut down on how much I download, just incase I get a smack in the face. xD
