There is something about Final Fantasy Fans in general that really annoys me. Take into account that I am not trying to generalize. I am talking about a portion of the fans. The portion of the fans that bash without reasonable justifications a title of the series or several or even single out 1 title and say that everything else sucks. People are entitled to their opinions dont get me wrong but there is a fine line between saying I dont like a game and saying that THIS GAME SUCKS! PEOPLE WHO LIKE IT ARE FUCKING IDIOTS AND THEY DONT KNOW WHAT TO APPRECIATE OR THEY DONT KNOW WHAT A REAL FINAL FANTASY FAN IS!
Now you may wonder why am I writing this..Because honestly most of the people dont bother or just dont give a fuck about this but Ive had enough.. I need to spill this rant to the world I need to release my anger!
Everyday on youtube when I decide to listen to a certain song of the OST of a final fantasy game the commentaries are always the same. True final fantasies are below 6.. FF7 rules.. 8 sucks bla bla bla.. The usual bullshit. I HATE WITH PASSION THESE PEOPLE. Why cant they just enjoy what they enjoy and let the others do the same instead of spending their lifes creeping some forums or youtube videos or whatever to say that they dislike a game and just bashing other people's tastes and opinions. WHY DONT THEY SHUT THE FUCK UP? And THE SPOILERS. The freaking spoilers. Everytime I go to a youtube video the comments contain spoilers, stupid fanboyism, haters .. I know this is the internet but my GOD it really grinds my gears.
Bottom line. If you dont like a game thats fine . If someone asks for your opinion then you can give it but please do it in a constructive manner. Dont be a retard and feel that you have the necessity to spam the whole fucking internet bashing what other people like and feeling the necessity to say that something sucks.. If no one asks SHUT UP PLEASE!
Also if you like a game very much dont do the same as the retarded haters and start spamming everything by saying that FINAL FANTASY Y,X,Z RULES.. IF no one asks and the thing you are saying is unrelated to the video/topic whatever SHUT YOUR FREAKING MOUTH!
I know that this has got nothing to do with the people here and it probably never happens in this forum (well sometimes it does but its not too bad) but I felt the necessity to spill this out.. To get it out of my system! Since I created a topic It would be good if you would also state what really grinds your gears about Final Fantasy Fans, Debaters whatever... The flaws of the fans basically. Not the games but some of the obnoxious fans.. You know what just say whatever you want. WHAT does grind your gears about Final Fantasy in general?(Yes now I am asking for people's opinions)

I also find it extremely annoying how some FF "fans" can absolutely hate a particular game without even trying it out. I mean, how can anyone have such a strong opinion about a game that they've never given a chance? Personally, I'm willing to play any "crappy" game before labeling it as such, because in all honesty, I might actually enjoy it out of the 100s of people that seem to be irritated by it. I can be weird like that. xD;

Now I will admit - I can be a bit of a "hater" when I see a game first come out. For instance, when the previews for FFXIII first came out, I was very reluctant to give it a try because it was so... non-traditional. I felt like it focused too much on graphics and that the battle system was stupid. But guess what? Now I absolutely love that game - the battle system, the OST, and even the characters who are criticized for not being too personable. I would argue that FFXIII had one of the greatest amounts of character interaction and development out of all the FF games, but I don't wanna get bashed for saying so. xD

I also don't like it when people over-exaggerate a game's "awesomeness." I feel that FFVII is one of those games that gets instant cred points for being the "most amazing RPG ever omg," when it's not a perfect product either. Don't get me wrong - I would say FFVII is in my top 5, along with FFIX, FFX, FFXI and FFXIII (*dodges rotten tomatoes*). I really do love the game's characters and I can replay it over and over again without feeling too bored, but I do feel like it is an overrated game. ^^;

Well. I dont like the concept overrated very much. One thing is to not like the game as much as some people do. The other thing is calling something overrated. Its like this. If people loved the game very much and they have such a strong opinion about it ( and its not just a few people), It is because the game is indeed worthy of its praise. It might not be perfect but even in its mistakes it is not very noticeable. Liking something is purely subjective and saying that something is overrated seems kind of arrogant. I take it as a person downgrading the love of someone else for something. It is not overrated if people actually praise it.
Well maybe you dont understand how can some people like something so much but calling it overrated its feels like you are downgrading what other people think of the object in analysis. Dont get me wrong I know that you probably didnt mean this when you called it overrated but I think people tend to misuse the word and throw it in too much :) .
I totally agree with what you said nevertheless.

Hmm... I do agree that people throw the term overrated around a lot and it can sound harsh, but I honestly don't think my use of the term "overrated" conveys any arrogance on my part, and I don't really think I misused the term. ^^; I suppose I'm specifically referring to the fans who believe that FFVII is the "ultimate RPG" that has no flaws (minor or major) and overshadows the value and worth of future FF games. I'm not referring to the enthusiastic FFVII fan who absolutely loves the game because personally I would fall into that category! xD Just because I tend to look at a game critically, doesn't mean I can't love it as much as the next person. :p

What I do find arrogant is how these fans speak so highly of FFVII but denounce the value of other, more underrated games (such as FFIX from my experience). Similar to those YouTube users you mentioned who will just post negative comments on games that they hate, or who over-zealously post how much "FF___ RULES!" and display "fanboyism" as you put it. And you can't have underrated games without having overrated games at the other end of the spectrum. FFVIII would probably fall in between these two, but that's just how I see it, lol.

Of course, as you've said, liking a game is a subjective concept, so this is all purely my opinion and thoughts. People can try to objectively rate a game in terms of it's graphics, game play, storyline, battle system, etc., but people will like what they like, even if they're the minority. :lew:

I missunderstood you. Yes those fans are very arrogant themselves. And they are the annoying ones I mentioned in my first post :)

About the 'overrated' thing, there's a reason people say 'overrated', at least if they define it the way that I do. I've played a pretty damn huge selection of games from a variety of genres, DEFINITELY NOT the least of which being RPGs, as that's my favorite genre in all of gaming. So when I say 'overrated', I define it as having contributed a big fat load of nothing to the genre in any palpable, meaningful way, especially when it comes to gameplay, because gameplay is what makes a game, and nothing else really.

For example, I'd use overrated to describe Halo because Halo is just the modern replacement for Goldeneye 64 with vehicles, and as a multiplayer FPS with vehicles, it wasn't even a really good one because Tribes and Battlefield 1942 were vastly superior in implementation, with Tribes released several years earlier with 100+ player counts per map, and Battlefield released a paltry year later with a much better execution. I'd also consider Final Fantasy VII overrated because it played precisely like the first six Final Fantasy titles, and is pretty much only worshiped for it's graphical presentation, which in my opinion pales in comparison to Alone in the Dark from 1992, which I felt had a much clearer presentation of environments and characters despite existing 5 years prior to FF VII. So, when I say things about something, I compare it to my experience with all other games in the industry, not a jaded 'I liked this when I played it, so it's perfect'.

For example, I love Final Fantasy VIII and IX probably the most out of the whole FF series. Are they flawed? Hell yes. But do I love them? HELL YES. I could be one of the first to pick apart those games, but I love them to death. In short, don't get your panties in a wad just because someone says something you don't like. It's their opinion. If you don't like it, disregard it, but discouraging people from speaking their minds is just as bad as always speaking bad about something yourself. You gotta temper the positive with the negative and companies like Electronic Arts, BioWare, Square-Enix will never grow in talent unless they can take criticism and work based on it. If they refuse criticism, then they are idiots. Artists have to use criticism as a tool to improve, or they will stagnate.

I do not in any way discourage people from speaking their minds.. Its just that they should do it in a proper environment.. Why do they have to do it in every single final fantasy youtube video... Music videos, Lets plays, absolutely everything. What really grinds my gears is the type of comments of for example FF 5 SUCKS.. Comments without a single trace of intelligence or rational argumentation and what really annoys me is that they are EVERYWHERE. Even in places where they werent asked for. It grinds my gears to have people saying completely unrelated things in for example and final fantasy 9 music video.. Cant they just enjoy the fucking music? Is it really necessary to say things like FF IX the only true final fantasy.. Or ff8 sucks.. Things like that. When discussions are purposedly created for that purpose I see absolutely no problem in people criticizing a game as long as they do it constructively and not in some "monkey-type" rant.

Furthermore.. What you value in RPG's is gameplay?!Well guess what JRPG's are storydriven and the gameplay is not the main point of the game. Its the narrative, the story, the characters and thats where the Final Fantasy franchise shines. And saying that a certain final fantasy is overrated because it didnt contribute to the gameplay is somewhat irrelevant because gameplay was never the main point of the franchise and even of the JRPG genre after a while. Final Fantasy in general changed the perception of JRPG's.. And as whole it is the most influential franchise in the genre and saying a certain title is overrated because too many people give the game too many praise ends up being a little confusing.. Why is it overrated when there are millions of people that adore the games? Who gets to decide when something is overrated when that is their own subjective opinion? If a certain game wasnt good enough it wouldnt certainly spawn the attention it got and that is why I find the concept overrated to be rather stupid ultimately but who am I to be certain of this.. And who are you? When it comes to games, mainly Jrpgs there is little objective arguments on the analysis of the games themselves.. It all comes down to opinions. I do not believe one can objectively state that a certain thing is overrated.
