My friend has a problem. She loves her job and likes her place of work, however she did something she really wasnt meant to. She wanted a DVD for ages and when she served a customer she discovered it was in the sale. So she was mega happy.

So after work, she goes to the DVD section and discovers that the customer had stuck a price sticker on himself. Which upset her, but then she did the same! Now my friend has never done this before and I was very shocked at the fact she did this. She paid for it on her card and is now terrified that her place of work will sack her for cheating the company out of some money.

Its been a week since she did this and hasnt watched the DVD cause she is beyond upset about it. She thinks the company may never know, but she has a feeling she was caught on camera. Its upsetting me as she has become mega paranoid and believes she will get the sack or something.

She asked me if she should take the DVD back and forget about it. But I thought if she did that, then the company would know she returned the item as she paid on her card. Then knowing she had got the item cheap.

Its stressing me out as I cant tell my family or any other friends. Its not like her to do that and she has become so paranoid.

Any advice?

im pretty sure that what she did can be punishable ny instant dismissal, and they could fire her straight awayif she told them, on the other hand she could explain to them what happened and why she did it, and as no real harm has been done, they'd probably be lenient and give her a token slap on the wrist.
all this depends on the store manager, if they're nice, mean ect.

alternatively she could keep it.
She thinks the company may never know, but she has a feeling she was caught on camera
tell her not to worry about that as stores are real stingy with their tapes, they re-use them every two days or something like that. also there would be no reason for the tapes to be checked, so they would never know.

she has become so paranoid
thats understandable, she has done something wrong and their are serious consequences.
i remember when i was 10 i stole some lollies from a dairy and i was to scared to go back in there for a month.

but what it really comes down to is wether it bothers your friend that she stole the dvd, if she can live with that then i spose its ok for her to keep it

If it's been a week then she's probably got away with it. Just tell her to move on and forget about it. As long as she doesn't make a habit out of it which is unlikely based on what you've said then she should be fine.

Yeah its a week this Saturday. This is a shock as she has never done this before and shes scared everytime shes been in work just in case they say something.

Shes just called, saying she told her mum and her mum reckons she should take it back and get the refund for the DVD. Saying it was a gift for someone else. Theres a chance maybe the company know and are just watching her to see if she does it again. But said the worse thing she could do is tell them about it. She is refusing to keep the DVD as she feels sick when she looks at it.

If the company did know what she did I'd imagine they'd have said something by now, she just needs to calm down and just let it go. She saved a few pound because she saw the oppurtunity to, it happens but it's nothing to make yourself sick over.

But she should be fine if she just hands it back, some stores make mistakes at times with labels so unless their managers are extreme Nazi bastards I'd doubt they'd do a background check on it.

I don't think she should return it since that might look suspicious, but she shouldn't have to keep the DVD if it makes her feel sick.

Isn't there a way she could pay them back? I mean, if she's friends with the manager there, she could treat him/her to dinner or something. Unless that's very unlike her. If it is, that would also look suspicious.
