why online

What most people fail to realize about paying for online gaming is that you're paying for a handful of things. Why do servers for Diablo suck so bad? They're free. Why are server for Socom so laggy? They're free. Why are the servers, updates, new features, etc so great on Final Fantasy XI? Because you pay the money to maintain them.

Aside from that, let's look at it from another view. How many games does the average person buy every three months? Usually, most people buy a new game every month or two. If you buy just one game every three months, you will have paid more than you would have for three months of Final Fantasy XI service. Why complain about something when the game itself is worth it? Most people who say the game is too expensive haven't played it or haven't had the time to play enough of it. A lot of people don't understand that Final Fantasy XI is a time-oriented game. If you can't dedicate several hours every time you log on, you may as well not play.

I just wanted to rant a little bit. I hate when people criticize something they don't put any thought into.

I must ask a few questions regarding the PS2 version.

-How long has it been released for on the PS2?
-You can play online through playstations, MUST you play online with FFXI on the PS2?

I believe the game was released in Japan at the end of 2003 and in the US in mid-2004.

The PS2 version requires the HDD add on which is no longer supported by Sony. You have to play online with FFXI, there is no offline version of the game.

People bitch and moan about the monthly fee, but its really not that big of a deal. Fifteen dollars a month is three hours of work for me, after taxes, and I am paid minimum wage. It really isnt that big of a deal. Especially when you think that going to the movies costs about ten dollars and lasts you about 1/20th of the time(time varies base don how big of a player you are).

Anyway I like the idea it was online, though I don't think it had to be called FFXI itself and probally could just been called FFO(Final Fantasy online).

Oh and may I add there IS a storyline to the game, its just extreamly hard to progress to the finish. If FFs were catogorized into difficulty this would definately be at the top of the list. You have to invest hours or time and build good relations and skills to get anywhere. To top it off theres no way to "cheat" per say (well I guess you could buy an account or gil...)

Yes, the information is right. The reason you may have not seen it on the PS2 is that Sony stoped supporting FFXI, so in turn SE stoped shiping FFXI to game stores, but you can still buy them from SE. And your missing the point, SE didn't need to make it online, but it's an added, GOOD feature. FFXI is my favorite game BECAUSE it's online, and it is worth the cost. If you don't feel that it's worth the cost, don't play.

Some people can't afford £30 a month ... I think that's like $58.

I asked a person in GAME, and they said it was never for PS2.

Its $12.95 US dollars, with mules i round it to $15 a month, its not that bad like I stated before.

Also it WAS made for PS2. If it wasnt then...
a) why would ToAU have been made for PS2(ToAU was the latest expansion)
b) why was there commercials about it being for the PS2
c) why would I have FFXI on right now and be playing it through my PS2(I'm leveling DRG at the moment so sitting around waiting for a party takes awhile so I leave it on and do stuff online while I wait for an invite/the right kinda jobs to appear looking for a party also.)

I'm not disputing the fact that it was never for PS2, I was merely saying that the people who allegedly sell it have state that it was never on the console.

I stopped at GAMESTATION, who clearly stated that it was ?30 per month. I, nor any one I know, am stupid enough to pay that.

I've never heard of gamestation. Also perhaps their confused thinking of the 30 dollar xbox yearly fee? I dunno, I just know the prices here in the US, and 15 bucks is the cost of 2 movie tickets basically for us, meaning tis nothing much.

They might be a bunch of freaks that work their, but I wouldn't believe they would get mixed up between dollars and pounds sterling. Just to clarify, we live in the UK, where we don't use dollars.

I can guarantee that they all stated ?30, which is an extortionate rate for a monthly game-fee.

No matter the price they gave you, it's is $12.95 for a single character. You're more than welcome to translate that into your currency, but the price is the same around the globe. It is true that they don't offer technical support any longer for the PlayStation 2, but they still give the updates and whatnot for the PlayStation 2. If you're able to get ahold of the hard drive, you'd be able to play and keep up with every other player. Final Fantasy XI is for some people. It's not for some people. That's like every other game. Some people are willing to pay the $12.95 a month because it's less-expensive than buying a new game every three months. It's all based on the player.
