Why 5?

I don't think there was any particular reasoning behind it, other than making the process if completely defeating Dark Yojimbo relatively challenging. Plus what Jimmy said, albeit unlikely.

Maybe they just thought "Let's make this a little more confusing for the players! Lets make them fight him more than once!" Then they threw in a ton of numbers in a hat and pulled one randomly. I'm just glad they didn't pull 1,000 . . . ^_^'

thats how i beat him when i fought him

i just overdrived yuna when i had loads of gil and he died easily

i think that hes got to be beaten 5 times because hes a special aeon and it takes tht many times to kill him, ill have to kill him 4 more times now

I remember when I fought him I defeated him the four times and I kept doing it. I had to look around before I realised I missed a him in one section. I had such a hard time with the first one I thought, why 5? But hey, it's just the way it is. Yojimbo was a different aeon, so naturally, the process is different, right?

Well i don't think it would have anything to do with the storyline.
It's a bit like other bosses in ff.
Like ff7 when you have to fight sephiroth 3 times, In ff8 where you have to fight ultimecia 3 times, etc

Well you had to fight Ject two times, you had to fight all your aeons and yu yevon, though you couldn't really lose, and you had to fight seymour 4 times, though not in a row.... yeah... i think that could be it, but why the hell yojimbo, with that stupid zanmato for an overdrive... it equals one hit ko

Lol that's why he's hard, cause you fight him 5 times.
Imagine fighting penance 5 times in a row

So that you would get a better chance in the game to collect rare items such as Dark Matters or Break HP + Ribbon armours? Provided of course that you know how to restart the fight.
