Well, back when Kingdom Hearts first came out, me and my bro got interested in Final Fantasy. So my bro bought Final Fantasy X. It was the first FF we played through. Although I got so much help from my bro, I don't really feel like I beat it. So years later, I bought FFIV Advance and it was the first FF I beat all by myself. Then came FFVI and then FFVII. Now it's time for me to beat another one. But which one? I've narrowed my choices down to Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. So, which FF do you guys think I should play next, Final Fantasy V or Final Fantasy IX?

Play IX, that way you will be preoccupied and actually have fun:) V is not fun in the least and you might die so play IX before you commit suicide and play V. IX has better graphics, gameplay, and is more engrossing in the story. The choice is clear:)

Play FFIX. It's by FAR the superior game. FFV is one that should only be attempted by those who are like, hardcore fans, or want a challenge.

FFIX has a fantastic cast of characters, and a brilliant storyline to boot. FFV, in comparison to FFIX, is rather bland. :|

Hmmm.

I like both games personally, but I'd have to say FFIX.

FFIX is an excellent FF game, and the realisation of many of the old FF teams dreams.

The story, character design, music and gameplay elements in this game are all really fantastic. I think this FF is a good example of FF at its height.

FFV is a fantastic game too, in my opinion. However more people seem to hate it than they do FFIX, so FFV might not be your thing either. The characters don't get as much development, however there are some really interesting concepts, it is funny, and some of the villains and characters are pretty awesome. And the music is fantastic on this game as well.

But for now I think FFIX is the safer option and certainly one you need to play one day. FFV you should eventually try out too if you don't do it now.

It depends really. Are you looking for more of an open game, where you get to set up your characters as you wish? Or a game where your characters classes and stats, are generally, set in stone? If the first, then you might want to look at Final Fantasy V first, if not, then I'd say go for IX. As for my personal choice, I'd point you towards V. It was actually one of my favorite in the series, however hard that is to believe. I hope I've helped you out a bit in your choice.

Edit- Another point I'd like to make, once you play a game with astounding graphics, such as IX, it gets harder to go back and play another game in 2D, at least in my experience.

If you like the classics, then perhaps FFV is for you.

I love the game, personally. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun playing it.

However I would suggest playing FFIX at some point too. Screw graphics, that isn't what is important in Final Fantasy, so that wouldn't be the reason I suggest it. Instead I really do think the plot, characters, music etc are all worth playing the game to try.

Quite a few of the old FF team who did the classics also worked on IX, and afterwards claimed that they had fulfilled their dreams with this game.

So in my opinion, both games are worth a play. I wouldn't leave one of them aside. Instead, if you are deciding which to play first, then just flip a coin or something.

For lovers of the classics I think both FFV AND FFIX are fantastic buys. FFIX has lots of references to the classics as well.

And I don't believe that those who taste graphics are lost forever and never return to lesser graphics. I was the opposite in fact... I started with FFVII, moved up to VIII, then IX, then X, then FFVI, FFIV, FFV, FF1, FF2.... etc. And I ended up liking FFIV-VI better than some of the more recent ones with all the graphics.

So it really is down to personal choice and styles.

Proof of my comment that Half the Final Fantasy fans that started post-VII can't appreciate a JRPG if it doesn't have some ridiculously over-dramatic and pretentious plot.

V is about the gameplay, and that's where it excels. It doesn't have some OMGWTFAWESOME plot, but it has an enjoyable one none-the-less, with a great cast of characters. Where the game shines however is it's job and battle system. Your characters can change jobs from say black mage to summoner, to fighter ect. You learn abilities and then can mix and match said abilites, for example A Monk that can cast time magic.

IX is actually my favorite in the series, but if you intend to play both eventually anyways, I would recommend V first. You'll appreciate IX all the more if you've played the games that came before it, particularly I-VI, as it's very much a throwback to the older games, and as sakaguchi claimed, what he had always envisioned Final Fantasy to be. So in a sense, IX is the definitive 3d "Final Fantasy", at least according to the creator of the series.

IX is considerably longer then V. All of the 3d games are quite a bit longer then I-VI.

IX is really a throwback to the earlier games in comparrison to hose around it. I believe you will appreciate IX a bit more if you play V first. I myself haven't actually played V and it is on my list of games to complete nor did I ever finish IX but I believe more than any other game in the series you will enjoy it more having played the 2D games.

Um don't know what to suggest, they are both pretty great games..

FF V

: If you enjoy good comic relief and sticking to the same party for a long period of time..
: Like Focusing on the Strength of your party squad and like finding ways to make your party more to your standards like a Tactics Leader..
: Enjoy/ Don't mind a more simple storyline..
: Enjoy's the Rouge saves the Damsel more classic/ Original Storyline..
: Likes Dragons and Chocobos and the fantasy FF type creatures..
: Wants to experience the Final Fantasy Job class system..

FF IX
: If you more freedom in changing your party members from time to time..
: If you enjoy a deeper more complex storyline
: Doesn't mind Romance scenes/ Or a bit of a small love story in parts..
: If you like Moogles more than Chocobos..
: Doesn't mind strange / unique characters like Blue coloured Queens..
: Wants a more modern comic relief and more modern comic relief characters..

Heroes - FF V

Bartz Klasuer

Bartz is more of a comic [ LOL ] kind of character, some say that he doesn't have much of a persona. But Reckon that he's just a classic FF version of Tidus. He's kinda goofy and not really the most sharpest tool in the shed..
But he's a little serious when he needs to be and maybe a little depressed..
Just like Tidus from FF X..

FF IX

Zidane Tribal

Zidane is kind of a more flirty kind of character like Bartz he can add in a few laughs, he is more of a cheeky- smart-ass kind of guy but as the game grows his persona changes to a cheeky ladies man to somebody who starts to care more about the world and he slowly starts to become a leader..

Villains

FF V
Ex- Death

I don't know much about Ex- Death but he gives me the creeps, some fans think that Ex- Death is a little too original, so think that you are either going to be bored with his Villain or gulping everytime he appears on screen..
If you like a sadistic Villain who might strike fear, Ex- Death does the job..

FF IX

Kuja

Um what to say here ^^'', If you like a more um- Flamboyant Villain who is more of a cunning/ Enigma - Mysterious kind of baddie- Kuja's the man..

But yeah love FF V & FF IX just as much as each other, so whatever one you choose in the end kind of believe that you won't go much wrong..
